Thread: Nice, but...

Great post.
You need a special card to do the 3 monitor thing?
Btw, great post.
Thanks. Don't know if other cards would work, but I use a Matrox Parhelia. Both the 256 and 512 cards work equally well. Then, in-game, set the visual parametersto see as wide a field as possible.
The really nice thing about using three monitors, is that you can have several open windows on the side monitors, while leaving the middle one free. So, as your motoring out to somewhere, you can be browsing through your email, and keeping an eye on what is ahead of you at the same time. Also, you can put all the little extraneous windows, such as HAM-bar and chat, over to the side, out of the way. Loading up a factory, have the list of ingredients open on one window, your input hopper on one window, and your inventory on another window. A really ideal setup for any crafter. I would have a lot of trouble playing this game on one monitor, after getting used to having all of this room for laying out everything.
It's nice for ordinary windows stuff, too. My husband designs circuit boards, and three monitors is ideal for being able to see the entire drawing at one time.
i don't disagree with anything you've said basically, but i do want to say a couple of things. by the way this is just general conversation, not any kind of debate ![]()
i'm not familiar with the database issues, nor do i even think it's important to go into details. bottom line is, i'm an end user, i don't care about their database issues. it's a small number of items for a house, especially compared to other games, period. as a side note, i have/had a tough time decorating my naboo hall's main and upper floors, i had to totally ignore the basement. but i have seen the odd hall which looks great, all floors filled, and i wonder how the bleep is this 250 items when i had problems? answer is of course, they had more skill. so in the end it just becomes a greater challenge to make do with what's there (kudos to that person)
i don't hate any houses in particular except the blinding-white-interior ones, but i have macros to change brightness levels, so i just use those. personally, i don't think all houses should be used on all planets. it doesn't make sense to me that all these different cultures/planet would have a mishmash of housing styles, or allow all styles (who wants a monster house on their street?)
from the decorating viewpoint, i'd love more items. on the average player standpoint, do i really want to wait twice as long for a house to load when i enter it just to use their vendor? and twice as long for it all to unload when i move away?
i understand why people complain about things, and i understand all these issues and others (from the end-user side anyway). the bottom line is, i've been here since launch, sometimes bored, sometimes not. some things bug me that i've never even seen discussed or dealt with, while other changes pleasantly surprise me when i wasn't aware there was a problem. all i can suggest for this or any other problem is take it as it is, as it will be, and remember it's the people who are at the heart of all your experiences here. if they weren't, then this would be the same as any single-player game, and you'd have stopped playing long ago.
personally i think i might be just as happy if this were all a glorified chat environment (cept that the chat system sucks). ![]()
It's really annoying that I have to strip all the furniture out of my house just to be able to continue working in it. If furniture didn't count towards that cap, I'd be fine. Or if the cap was about 300 items for a medium house.
There were also a few useful suggestions here about the game itself.
I dont hold out much hope that the devs, if they see this, will do anything other than dismiss it as a whine or a rant or what have you. No matter how hard one tries, if anything negative is said about the game, it is largely...though not always...entirely ignored.
So, in that light, I will say thanks, and that I'm glad others see my point of view, and delete the huge response I was writing instead, which outlined even more problems. We all know they exist, even if we dont know what they are. I don't need to keep on about it here.
I hope the game gets better before my final decision to leave. I'm still thinking it out. I dont want to give up, but when the new opportunities that are on their way finally arrive to give my subscription money to another game that treats me more respectfully than SOE does, that's when my stakes will pull up and Perilous will disappear from SWG forever. And that will be a very sad day for me, because I put a lot of work and trouble into her, and I keep believing that the situation will improve, even though so far I have no reason to. It's just that darn Star Wars thing that none of we true die hards can ever let go of.
But once I separate that wonderful Star Wars thing from the comedy that is SOE, then I'll find no trouble at all letting my SWG subscriptions go. Someone will try again someday, and hopefully, they will learn their lessons from the mistakes made here.
Or...SWG can maybe learn those lessons itself, and turn into the game we were not only promised, but have hoped all along it would become.
And no, you can't have my JTL beta invite.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
