Thread: What kind of profession is this where a DRESS costs more than a house?!?!
I feel sorry for those of you struggling in this profession.
This is exactly why I am surrendering my certs immediatley after the city structures go live.
Master Combat Medic / Doctor...here I come.
How about 12 eggs selling for 2k... (That's 6 whole omelettes if you're frugal)
Seriously, I feel your pain, but try charging for healing if you are a doctor. We've all done this to ourselves.

Wait, do you mean young aged, or new player? Because how could you tell if they're young? Besides, then you're spoiling them. Cut them off.
I sell Smalls for 20k, Med for 80k (95k Gen), Large for 200k (250k Gen), Guild for 1.5million (2million Gen)
I don't sell harvesters because they're MONEY MAKING MACHINES and they're worth a LOT more than they go for.
Factories for 80k
I'm dropping Architect I think... There's no point since I can't make money with it (I'm not lowering my prices, structures are WAY too much hassle to do that).
I'm going to be a Doctor/Armorsmith/Slicer. WAY more money with WAY less fuss. I'll just buy my structures from other architects that sell them at **edit** near cost.
I told myself I wouldn't drop Arch because it felt good to be one. Turns out that anyone can become a Master Architect in a matter of hours without difficulty. So if I want to do it again, I'll just grind Gen Turbines... The only incentive would be if the Devs do something about Architecture... COLORED FURNITURE!!!
----------------------------------------------------------
The thing is, if there is just MONEY MONEY MONEY in your eyes, i agree you better drop architect asap.
My choice is to enjoy the profession, yeah i enjoy making profit, but i do enjoy helping my customers make the structures they need, I think this is our mission as an architect.
If you don't understand the words "young player", ok, "Newbie" is what I mean, I love to help whom i think he/she's worth to help, for example one day a guy /tell me
"Hi sir, can i buy a small house from you"
"Sure that's 10k"
"cool I got around 12k
After the trade, he said he don't know how to place a house and i just follow him and guide him until he've placed it.
then he /tip me the 2k which is all in his pocket.
"Thanks for help
Then he run away, and at that moment i just /tip 15k to him. Then he run back to me.
"Ohhh why?"
"Because I love to help a guy like you
That's what i mean. Money is important, but not everything.

Charity is what I do in the game. I've given out 100's of pieces ofarmor for FREE. I've stood in front of Coronet Star Portdressed as Santa Claus givingaway suits to peoplewho wanted one.I've made some awesome CDEFs for newbies, I will gladly barter with anyone that can't afford astructure, and if while I'm healing then entertainers I notice a dancer hasn't been tipped all night and needs 5k for Novice Dancer, I'm more than happy to donate that small sum.
Dropping Architect isn't a greedy decision, it's a frustrated one.As a profession I feel that we're GREATLY disrespected and I'm to the point of dropping it for more respected fields until the Devs do something about us. If I were in it for money, then I'd be an undercutting Architect like some I've seen.
With the amount of money that's floating around in the game, there's no reason people should bite my head when I quote a decent, respectable price. I always tell them that other Architects sell for less, I'm not in it for the credits.
The main reason I'm going Doctor/Slicer/Armorsmith is so I can help MORE people than I could as an Architect. When I see that Novice Brawler with a Survival Knife in his hand, which would help them more? A 6 Stat Buff and a set of sliced armor, or a Small House that he could buy for 5-10k. Not to mention that for the resources of one house I could make several sets of armor and have them sliced, or buff a lot of dancers/musicians so they can go AFK and gain xp steadily.
There's just a lot more satisfaction in these other professions. I know because I've been an Architect for a long time and I've been a Armorsmith not so long, and barely started Medic, and already those have been way more rewarding than Architect ever was.
Not to mention that I can still make money with those new professions. You have to have money to give it away...
The thing is, if there is justCHARITY, SELF-RESPECT, and THE DESIRE TO HELP OTHERSin your eyes, i agree you better drop architect asap.

I got paid 100k for 9 Milks. ![]()
And yes, pricing is our own fault...as a profession, not all as individuals. We probably all sell for less than we would like, but we all set prices that maintain our businesses in the manner that we want. Or we go out of business...either by choice or by necessity.
I am guessing that the Architect profession will see a decline in numbers shortly after the Player City launch...once the City a particular Architect is responsible for has all the structures it needs, the Arch will get some skill points back, and head to a different profession.
I'm guessing you're right on this. Usually the Architect in the guild is the guy 'volunteered' to grind to make the guild hall/city. I'm guessing after cities get built, certain characters will have an extra 63 points to play with.

What I have learned, and maybe others have noticed this too, is that the real market price is not what Joe Blow Low tells you it is. Those discussions with people where you get a "thats overpriced, the AVERAGE price is this" are not based on any fact. They are based on aggressive/rude/obnoxious bartering tactics used by allot of people.
How do I know this? Take this example.
I make 5 factories(2 food chem, 2 Weapon droid, 1 wearables). I place them on my vendor on a monday for 65k. By sunday morning they are all sold. I did not take any orders, did not deal with any bully tactics from rude customers, I sold 5 factories.
What I used to do... I make no factories, but keep the components and materials ready. I get a tell for a quote on a factory. I tell them X. After I get the bs "average price" speech, I drop my prices to about 30 or 35k. Doing that, I would sell about 10 factories.
On average, I could make the same profit making 5 factories or 10 factories. For the 325k credits, I could either have
a) Give away 3 hours(estimate) of my time to benifit 10 other players(save them time gathering credits)
b) Don't give away any of my time and let the 10 other players spend their time gathering credits.
I prefer A, because I hate to work twice as hard for half as much.
As far as the force fed "average price", if that was truely average, then no one would ever come back and buy my 65k factories, 150k heavies, and 200k large houses. If the price that architects were told was truely average, then my structures would rarely sell.
I guess what I am doing is employing a tactic to stop a customer tactic(dishonest "X is the average price" price quoting).
Argh! I just sold some Micro Flora Farms for dirt cheap cause I needed the money to buy resources to get Architect... I should've doubled the price.
Anyways, I think a lot of architects screwed up the sales of houses by charging people at factory direct prices or lower. Maybe by raising our prices we can repair the damaged Housing Economy.
O yeah about "average prices." I was selling Rock Beetle babies for 8.5k (1/2/1/1) and sold about 4 or 5. Next day I shout my advertisement and somone says to me, "Thats WAY too much, you should charge 3k at MOST!"
Charge what you want to charge and don't lower your prices unless you really are charging too much. If someone tries to heckle you to a lower price just tell em thats your price and you won't lower it!
I see a lot of people comparing the prices people pay for houses vs the prices people pay for weapons and I have to say you are comparing apples to oranges. As a combat orientated class my survival is dependent in large part on the quality of my weapons (I must add I have not to date given 100,000 credits for anything, weapon or otherwise) I have no real NEED for a house other than morestorage space. This is where I think the problems come in. In the SWG Universe a combat character (not going to speak for non-combat) can essentially be homeless. They can log out in town, in the cantina or in camp. Why buy what you dont need? If I had 100,000 credits and had a choice between a better weapon or a larger house. I'd take the weapon. Why? I use the weapon everyday. I go to my house once or twice a week (less if Im spending a lot of time off-planet). Its just not worth the investment for an item that I will use rarely if at all. Now as I spend more time in-game and I build up my resources Im sure I will eventually buy a large house, simply so I can say I have one. However, this is a decision driven by ego and not necessity. Make it necessary to own a home (even a small one) and Im sure the demand will rise.
For those who claim they refuse to lower their prices and continue to sell small houses for 20K. I'd be willing to bet you don't sell too many. Again, why should I pay 20K for a small house when I can get them all day for 8K and occasionally on the bazzar for 3K?
Hi,
first of all I dont like the idea to look jealous onto other professions. I dont have a problem if a Tailor sells his stuff for 20k, thats fine for him.
I have a problem that I cant even sell small houses for 10k, on Gorath that would be sorta high-price. You can get them for 8k at every bit starport.
Read ya.

Dude, you get 5 stars for this post, even if you are a reb.
Can't agree more. My character on Tempest that is not an archtect is always looking for new suppliers, but sticks consistantly with known individuals. If I look at X's house I will regularly find the Y I need. Believe it or not, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY REGULAR VENDORS has asked me to, or come to meet me to say thanks for the business. Many even give me rebates and I NEVER ASK FOR THEM. Their 'character' not only tells me a lot about them in RL, it tells me that they can be counted on and are not in it for the buck only. If I ask any of them if they can do something, I get honest answers. I do not ask for their trade secrets, I simply ask for customer information. They have shown me that their consistency is worth the price they charge for product and/or service.
