Do you know that is what they are doing? Have they advertised those prices?
Or are you assuming that is how they could do it?
Only one person sells new paintings and prices are 250-400K variety.

Do you mean you've seen one person who's selling the new painting on Ahazi? Cause I haven't seen anything, nothing on vendors, on the trade forums, in starport spam, nothing that suggests this.

Well, I just submitted yet another ticket about the quest, this time asking if they could confirm or deny that there is a 250 schematic limit. I'll post my reply if & when I receive one.

Here is the ticket I submitted and the reply I received:
I have added a comment requesting a direct response to the two questions at the end of my original ticket.

This ticket relates to the Bestine Museum Painting quest.
Hi,
Several times over the last few months I have submitted tickets and bug reports about the Besting Museum Painting quest as it appeared not to be operating correctly on the Infinity server. I have just heard a rumour relating to this topic and would like to know if you can confirm or deny it and, if true, what action, if any, can be taken.
First some background. This is how I currently understand the Bestine Museum Painting quest to operator. There is a two week period during which any player may visit the Bestine Museum and be sent on a mini quest to choose which of three painting they like best. On returning to the Museum they can inform the curator of their choice. After two weeks of voting the painting with the most most votes is made available for any player to purchase, although only Architects can use the schematic. The painting remains available for two weeks after which voting begins for a new painting.
I have been following the quest for a long time and the last painting we had was available to purchase for less than 12 hours, not the full 2 weeks I expected it to be available for.
Now the rumour. It has been suggested on the Architect Forum that there is actually a hard limit of 250 schematics and that one player on Infinity has made a habit of purchasing all schematics in order to corner the market.
First of all, are you able to confirm or deny the hard limit of 250 schematics (or indeed any hard limit, whatever the number)? Secondly, if there is a hard limit, is the purchase of all or most of the schematics by a single player considered a form of griefing (denying contect to other players) or simple business sense?
Thankyou for your time,
Ket'aboth (Infinity galaxy)

I would interpret their comment about "do not consider any rumor" to imply that there is no hard limit to the number of schematics. Otherwise they would have simply confirmed a hard limit as intended and have had no reason to discount rumors.
They also told you to submit a bug report which says that something isn't working right. So that would also imply that there isn't a hard limit because if there was then what you are seeing woudl be an expected consequence.
However, yes explicit answers would be more clearer.

Ok, understood this is on Infinity.
But from what I understand the painting is seen to be available for a short time before it disappears. This person charging a high price might be getting there first and getting the schematic before it is no longer available. If they are the only person to have it (or one of a few) then they could still demand a high price due to the very scarce supply.

Oh dear, one for Tiggs' collection I'm afraid:
I wonder if I'll get in trouble if I submit this ticket again.

Thankyou for your reply,
Regardless of the fact that the source was merely rumour I would appreciate a direct reply to my questions if possible:

Secondly, if there is a hard limit, is the purchase of all or most of the schematics by a single player considered a form of griefing (denying content to other players) or simple business sense?
Many thanks,

Greetings, this is (CSR name withheld),
I read your ticket and there is no limit to how many schematics a crafter can have, however, you may not be able to see them all if you have multiple crafting professions, and must change views to see them all. As far as "cornering the market", it does not seem possible, however, if you have more information about a player who practices this, please let us know.
Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to submit a new ticket. Please remember to delete this ticket from your holocron under the customer service tab if you are finished with it. Good luck in your travels, and may the force by with you!

They seem confused. They apparently don't realize you are talking about a limited # of painting schematics for sale.
You might try reasking it like this:
"Can you confirm if there is a limited number of painting schematics available to purchase in the Bestine museum?"

Aha! Now we're getting somewhere!
So, according to CSRJamesS there is no limit on the number of schematics. Any ideas as to the 'may be something involved in the quest that is not being done to qualify you to receive this schematic.'? I've tried voting. I've tried not voting. What else is there to do?

CSRJamesS at your service! I want to thank you for contacting customer support for Star Wars Galaxies. I have read your ticket and understand you have a question regarding the painting in the Bestine museum. There is not a limit on the schematics as suggested, but there may be something involved in the quest that is not being done to qualify you to receive this schematic.
I would like to thank you for playing SWG and wish you the best of luck and a safe journey through the Star Wars universe!
Regards

Shouldn't be anyting else involved.
Since most other servers are not having problems I would assume its just a bug affecting a few unfortunate servers.
