Thread: Architect Issues Designer responses
"This issue is about class viability. The essential problem is quite clear, that without decay once a server's core population has all the structures they desire there is no longer any reason for Architects to exist."
Agreed, please reread my original comment. I said i had a problem with paying maintenanc AND having the new Decay.
Architects have every right to desire the same level of class viability that Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths enjoy.
No argument there. Note. I do not pay maintenace for my carbine or my armor.
"It is self-serving and underhanded to employ extreme views, such as your "greed" commentary, in an effort to suppress or censor open discussion of the issue."
Please look up the definition of "suppress" and "censor". It might enhance your understanding of the English language. I wont comment about the terms "self-serving" or "underhanded"....just chuckle. Apparently "open discussion" only applies to those that have your own (extreme?) views.
"Likewise, those postulating ridiculous scenarios such as houses rotting in a week ormulti-thousand percent increases in maintenance, seek only to create anxiety and suppress constructive discussion."
Again, please read the posts CAREFULLY. Do not attribute statements that others may (or may not have) made to me. Please note I am also not responsible for any lost household pets, bad weather, or economic downturns in your area as well. :-) However, I do fancy your yard gnomes, so you might want to keep them in a safe place....
"Your comment above, and those others I've pointed out, are simply trolling and serve no constructive purpose."
You wear it well....or as they say in my neighborhood....back at ya, Homely.
love and kisses

I'd say I have to agree about some form of decay, but maintenance and general decay won't do the trick. Even if we continuously get new schematics, that will only keep the profession going for so long. I've always thought that perhaps an exponentially increasing maintenance cost capped to triple the initial maintenance costs and cap being reached in say ...6 months was a feasible and tolerable figure. I don't work for sony though, so doubt that will ever be read by a dev.
As far as AS/WS making a descent living is also due partly to the fact there are a lot more combat professions than crafting ones. They also can usually upgrade for each skill level until they reach an elite profession which makes doing so worthwhile. Even though they don't pay maintenance on their weapon, it does decay with use and must be repaired eventually.
I really think as/ws comparisson to arch's are also not good comparrisons as we tend to use a bulk of resources with descent stats versus low quantities with extrememly high stats. That's just my opinion though.
I'd also have to say any post regarding the debate over decay in any other forum besides architect would result in an overwhelming "Vote no on decay" response....along with a multitude of flames/name calling and popcorn eating readers ![]()
This is kind of a no win situation for the developers. I agree setting up decay where the architect branch can benefit is an issue that wont sell well with the other classes, but will sell better if maintenance fees are dropped. More difficult is setting up decay rate where it will benefit to the degree the architects want.
Possible options touched on elsewhere:
- Set up a portion of the maintenance pool to go to the architect that made the deed. The assumption is the architect is somehow involved in the maintenace.
- Architects or artisans can create an item that players use to repair buildings/harvestors that decay beyond a certain point. Drop the maintenance fees.
I think its unrealistic to have the architects to physically repair each item in the game themselves in person.
Something for all to think about: when builders have been getting 500k for PA halls and 40k for medium houses, will they really be happy with a "residual" income stream when they switch to the role of repair man?
The thing to remember though, from the global perspective both as a player (non architect) or developer. Its easier to keep things the way they are...players just put money in a maintence pool.
