Thread: Architect Issues Designer responses
My top gripes and suggestions (Most have been mentioned already in one form or fashion):
1) Add decay to any architectural structure that can be repaired with kits (this might be a pain with furniture if you have a lot of it, so maybe a kit used on the house for both house and furniture repair). These kits should be made by architects also.
2) Remove administrative priviledges from harvesters and factories. This would put an end to people have access to 50 or more lots due to friends and cross server lot swapping. Fewer lots result in higher demand for resources which would benefit the economy and all crafting professions. Yes, it would also remove the ability to use a second account and run your harvester route with one character but, that's a small price to pay for a better economy.
3) Master Artisan is not a requirement for architects so, why do we have to use components in the master architect tree? Sure, it promotes business between players but, you lose customers if you don't have those components onhand.
4) Enough with the critical failures already.....I had two crits on wall modules just a day or two ago making a large house. We can barely make a profit as it is due to issue #2 on my list.
5) Come up with new schematics for furniture and houses, maybe even mansions that take up 8 lots. On that subject....why can't we change the color of furniture? Why can't chests, armoires, bookcases etc..actually be used to hold items??
6) Along with issue #5....Additional storage space items that architects could sell. That would be a hot item especially if decay was introduced.
7) In addition to #2, if you won't remove administrative priviledges on items, why not allow lots to be rentable. I wouldn't go so far as to allow the sale of these lots but, it would add a money sink to the game.
8) How about a control panel we could make and sell that could be installed in a house to pay maintenance and add power to harvesters. That way we would only have to run all over the galaxy to pick up the resources. An email that tells us when we need to service them (Not sure if that is working now or not....have yet to see an email), or when the resource dries up. Sure, you can look on the survey device to see if the resource is gone if you're on the same planet but, what about those that are off planet? Nobody likes having to run their harvester routes daily. (That I know of...)
9) Sure would be nice to have mirrors, paintings, etc. and hooks we could hang them on.....or some way to place them. Ways to mount lamps and flowers on tables or other furniture would be nice. Axe the ghetto furniture while you're at it. Those low level bookcases and chests look worse than crap I could find in a junkyard, or give us some refinishing kits and a can of paint.
Well, that's about all I can think of offhand. I'm sure I'll come up with a few more later.
BTW.....Why does my large naboo house only allow 250 items in it? I thought it was 75 items per lot??? "Perhaps another bug"?? heh
3PO,
I am not one to usually complain, but you posted this almost a month ago.
The game was released almost 2 months ago.
Our experimentation numbers have not been fixed, and more architects are critically failing on structures.
Please, Please fix these, they are game breaking issues and they need to be dealt with very soon.
Being an architect, I am voicing an unpopular request...
Do NOT implement decay.
There...blast me, i don't care. But if architecture decays (and folks spend over 100k on an item) then EVERYthing should decay...clothes, weapons (wait, weapons do...lol), MEDICINE, that nice high rating CRAFTING STATION you have been using to DO all your crafting.
Personally, I feel decay is very BAD and would mess up the economy worse than it already is.
That said, I offer a way to IMPLEMENT architectural decay...
Have items decay like weapons do, but allow architects to CRAFT and sell a REPAIR DEED or some such. This could work similar to weapon repair kits, albeit a bit more expensive. And there could be a QUALITY of the REPAIR DEED, just like weapon repair kits have.
However, remember that folks PAY MANITENANCE on houses and installations. They do NOT pay maintenance of weapons or clothes or medicines or food or droids or... If decay IS implemented, MAINTENANCE FEES should be ABOLISHED.
Personally, I do NOT want to have to be rebuying/repairing everything i got since launch day--ESPECIALLY not my high-end CRAFTING STATIONS as they are my livelihood and extremely hard to come by especially since the recent BUGS with not being able to craft new high end ones (come on..how many of you STILL are using negative 14 workstations?) If decay IS implemented, we ALL stand to lose our crafting stations as part of it. And that is the day that the devs (and whoever promoted the idea) can go straight to the night sisters...lol. But then again, if the goal is to make the galaxy even worse than it already is...go for it...and expect a lot of folks to cancel their accounts. I am not talking about myself, though i would consider it, but about MANY people who are FUMING since talk of decay began.
There is some hope in that recently, it was announed in a patch that TAILORING decay was NOT being implemented due to overwhleming response against it.
Just one Architect's opinion...
Just thought up a MAIN reason to NOT decay houses.
Think of everyone's joy, including your own, when you house goes POOF with ALL ITS CONTENTS!
Do you REALLY want to have to build yourself another house every few days (or however often), find a nice ALTERNATE site to place it, losing the great one you HAD, and go to all the trouble of MOVING all the contents?
Now think of the outcry throughout the entire game if EVERYONE had to move every so often or lose all the contents of thier house. Think of all the PvP just because of the landrush. Shades of UO!!!!
It is not as simple an issue as decaying clothes or droids or medicine or food or ...
Just a thought.
I am master architect and have been one in beta.
I vote no to house decay. If you are paying maintenance, it stands to reason you are paying it to keep it from going poof. I almost was overtaxed reaching architecture early in the game. Constant tells and sucjh. It seems we need decay less than any other professions. If I truly wanted, I could sell any deed. I get tells for structures all the time and have to turn them away. Most of it is furniture and mining. some PA deeds for houses.
I believe getting your money's worth. You pay maintenance to keep your house from going poof. Add decay, and you better delete that maintenance fee. Also, stop and consider this: If you implement decay and use house repair kits, what happens of you fail? Will the house disappear? Do you know how hard it is to get some items? a 30.0 attribute crafting station is not easy to make. nor some peoples precious trophies from killing dark jedis. Some others have spent inordinate amount of hours in decoration. Others use it for vendors and stand to lose over 100 items and be broke if the vendor disappeared with the house. We pay to maintain the house, dont add to it.
Also. If you do implement decay on certain things, I vote it beonly furniture andthat the decay be very slow. weapons and clothings would naturally decay faster than a sofa at home. Lets keep it realistic.
One last thing. Please give us one lot use for our structure factories, you're killing us by taking 2. We need storage (house 2 lots), factory (2 lots), carbonate ore, aluminum, copper, chemical, reactive gas, inert gas. energy for installations, steel, etc.
My wish list:
Power cores expire in houses. I do not want house decay, since that's a huge expenditure, but I'd like something that keeps people coming back to my shop.
Furniture colors. Please, for the love of Pete, let me customize my furniture like tailors customize clothes! I want a purple couch.
The ability to put chairs and furniture on my terrace. Even if it's only certain, terrace-only furniture, I want to sit on my patio and watch the sun set over the dunes.
Harvester decay. These are huge machines that work hard. They need to fall apart. Factories should also decay.
Corellian housing update. These houses are hideous, and frankly, aren't on a par with houses from other planets. How about in the style of Kor Vella's buildings?
A /move up command. This way, people without stairs can put things on tables.
Items per lot fix for PA halls. I can suck up the limits as they are for the rest of the styles, but 250 items in a PA hall is completely unacceptable. I'd also like to see special storage containers in houses that only count as one item, but allow you to store several more, like bank vaults. They should unload the data, and only access it when opened.
you kow what would be nice,
a vault in a house. a house taking only one vault at any one time. In the vault u have extra storage, add to it a 4 digit code, and you can now share the house with others while keeping your precious valuables secured. It would make having roomates easier. It also makes sense to implement 2 of these for a PA. So we can have guild officers managing each one as a resource control.
My favorite post on decay was that houses should use 0 lots and not decay. Furniture should not decay either. However, all factories and harvesters should decay. Yes it would hurt us a little bit in that it would increase our costs but and I feel this is a big but, it would force people to return to us if they are using our structures to make money.
I think this would solve a lot of the problems with too much money being in the game and it would keep the architect a viable profession.
But even if decay is added it wont solve all our problems.
We need to be able to color furniture. They should have switched experimentation to furniture and assembly to construction. Then add color palette to furniture like Tailors have.
That would help alot.
Also fix the issues with lighting not working and all the other stuff that makes you wonder if the developers even care about the profession.
Finally giving us something like turrets or whatever in the construction line that were a part of the gcw would be immensely popular and fun and would give us a market for that as well.
Right now a huge problem is that people just go up the installation line and make what they need and then drop the profession. What use do they have for the profession once they have their harvesters and factories? None. I sincerely do not believe there are too many architects but there are too many other classes just going up one line in architect to get what they need.
Houses, Harvesters, and Factories already decay. It's called "Maintenance Fee." To add another artificial decay on top of it to make architects feel wanted would be, well, kinda dumb (and yes, I am an architect).
Instead of adding yet more decay to an already expensive maintenance regime, how aboutgiving architects/engineers the ability to perform Manual Maitenance on structures? Example: Instead of plopping 2k credits into your house maitenance pool to keep it 100% for the next 3-4 days, you can hire an architect to come and perform "maintenance" that would do the same thing -- keep your house in good repair for the next 3-4 days. You can even base it off the Experimentation skill tree, so then it actually has a use (the higher your skill, the longer your "maintenance" lasts -- you don't want to be making house calls all over the place every single day, after all). Maybe make it consume a handful of resources too, so architects aren't managing their own structures for absolutely no cost at all.
I dunno. Maybe it's a dumb idea. But it's certainly no dumber than even MORE decay to worry about on our structures. Pfeh.
as far as the decay issue, perhaps there is a way for architects to. . . . maintain a building cheaper than just throwing money at it? that way, architects can craft a maintenance tool, or something, and either cover maintenance for a little bit, or decrease maintenance for a little while?
i understand both sides of the decay/no-decay issue, but surely we can agree that something must be done? maybe some servers are better than mine, but on eclipse this profession is most definitely a sinking ship, and the lifeboats are other professions.
housing and furniture customization and experimentation are musts. corellian housing is WAY to much like generic, and what about talus and rori housing?
i'm thinking that the structure skill column that only gives you crafting points should do something else as well. i'm thinking that it should give the architect more lots. we honestly do need them. an architect is a mining institution unto himself. gas, chemical, 3-4 types of metal, massive amounts of ore, and the power for all these harvesters?
and think about this. as a creature handler advances he can have more pets out at a time, and he can store more pets. i think that architects should get more lots, and droid engineers should get more droids. that's really the only reasonable answer.
"How about Architects getting a kickback of maintenence paid on a deed they create. Doesn't need to be a stellar ammount 1-5% of the maintenence cost paid would still be nice. It adds the illusion that your upkeep credits are going someplace logical. Who is doing this maintnece now? I see harvs and houses all over, but have yet to see a painter or a rofer doing some work..... "
see, but this is money without DOING anything. profit with not cost. i mean, SURE, it would make all of us fantastically wealthy, but we wouldn't be doing anything, and my protestant work ethic just won't stand for it, lol!
that would be an illusion (you are right in saying) but i think making it an actuality would work better. allowing an architect to actually do the work! just so that architects aren't drowning in tells all day, we could leave the current system as is, but architects could set up certain buildings to be maintained for a certain time. like.. . . . pay an architect 20k, and you're house wouldn't decay for a month. you pay 20k instead of 30k, and the architect gets payed for preventing decay of the house. it's almost like how it works with weapons and repair and all that, but a little odd.
the only problem i can see with this is that it removes some money from sinking out of the game. i mean, it would cost an architect to do this, but it would have to cost him less that he was getting payed, or he wouldn't do it. soo, there's less money sinking out of the game, which (imho) there's not enough sinking out as is, soo we might be REALLY helping one problem and hurting another problem a little bit as an expense. do you guys have an idea?
are you mad? getting architect to get what they need?
it takes over 1 million in reources to get master architecture. a week of powerleveling is crazy considering you can make 50k an hour in mission terminals. Its simply faster to buy what u want than to spend 3-4 hours making it. some of the other stuff literally takes a whole day to craft.
why are we doing this profession again? lol
