Thread: Personal Harvesters are to good compared to med/heavy

Lets look at the difference in detail. Med 2 times the harvesting power per unit at 2 times the cost.

1. Personal harvesters cost 250 resources which equals around 200 credits for an architect. So it will cost you 200 credits to move a personal harvester and 3000 to move a med.

2. We will use ore as are resource.

a. Personal harvester is more likely to find a higher concentration, because they fit in smaller areas. So it is very likely that you will be able to get 5-10%higher concentration.

b. Many people have tons of harvesters that they rent (friends, PA, etc...) so the amount of harvesters is usually not anissue.

c. Now ifthe resource your mining runs out,if you have a personal harvester you just destroy it and move on. If you have a med you will most likely stay put hoping that the resource shift again. This is an area were personal harvesters definetly have an advantage.

d. Now when the shift comesif your on 40% spot of ore, is it worth it to move to a 45-50% spot and maybe spread out your harvesters since they take up so much room. With personal harvesters room is less of a concern and cost of moving is almost free.

Again I am not saying med are bad, I just think personal harvesters are to good right now with the way resoruce shift.

I totally agree. I'm a firm believer that the medium and large harvesters should both being considerably more efficient than the small harvesters to justify their resource cost.

I swear my mediums don't seem to be doing 2x. It says it should be, but more like 1.5

Anyone test this and drop a personal next to medium and try it out?

I have 1 medium and I think it does more like .5 more thana regular extractor. Its hell to place too. The only reason to have them IMHO is to save lots.

You can buy personal extractors on the bazzar. In fact, I think you're better off buying them than making them because they usually cost 700-1,400 creds which is 1 mission. Save the resources and buy it.

On destroying: Thats also an option when resources shift

1- Depending on how much maintenance you have left, you can either destroy it or move it.

2- If there are reds nearby and you dont want the hassle, just let it get damaged and place another one.

With Mediums and Large you cant do that because its so expensive. Theyre also hell to place too.

Like I said earlier, the only reason to place Mediums is to save lots and get .5 more resources per extractor. Its not even 2x as much. And it costs 2x. For that, you could place 2 extractors and get 2x the resources for the same maintenance.

Yeah! Glad someone agrees.

On the "hell to place" issue, I totally agree. We need a terraforming robot...

The biggers shouldn't gobble up energy and should last longer (manage funds should last a long time) but it should be extremely expensive to pick the thing back up to move it.

I get 2x more resources per medium, maybe you are mining 2 kinds of the same resource. Smalls are better if you have a guild's worth of buds who are dependable enough to come move them for you. Thats the breaks when you an independent arch though. I like being independent and I think I do more business this way.

Ressources gatherers... the one only using harverster to sale ressources are much more attracted by 10 heavy harvesters wich equals ? 40 personal harvesters? Even though they cost too move the price is ridiculous to they're eyes... at 3c per ressource when you're harvesting 60,000 of ressources per day you get the deal... no point being cheap about 3,000 credits

I agree the cost should be lowered or the rate given a little extra... maybe act like the concentration was 5% higher for med... and maybe 8% for heavy

About movement... starsider is bugged and only had one ressource shift... so I don't have experience with that right now.

The really weird thing is number of lots for a big house... no crafter can afford that really because we need that space for harvesters... so only hunters are buying large houses...

it takes 20 days of harvesting for a large to compensateforitself, and 5 days for a medium to.

i use mediums.

Right now with the resource shift every 5-8 days and the fact you don't know when a resource shift will end, it is better for most people to use a personal harvester which is much easier to placewith the highest resourceand just destroy it when you move.

This is even more true if you are in a PA, since you could move them when the shift comes as a group. If you had med down you have to pay 3k per move, which could be a few timesa week. Personal you just destroy at a cost of 250 resources.

I will say if you can find flat enough land that med obviously will double production while it is up at 2 times the cost.

Now Solar and Fusion are worth it since there cost are the same as wind.

I disagree... If I used personals I'd need about 20 more lots. With larges and mediums I can go with only a few extra lots from a friend.

I'm in the process of upgrading all of mine to large harvesters. Why? Because when I'm done I'll be getting 22k resources a day rather than the ~10k that I'm getting now with 2 mediums and 2 personals, all without spending any extra lots. Heck, I'll even have two lots left over, one for my fusion generator to power it all and another for a second harvester for Aluminum. What's even better is that I get medium house-like experience for all of this. So for me, it's a win-win situation. I end up at the end pulling enough resources to make one large house every 1.25 days based solely on my own lots.

10 Heavies may equal 40 harvesters, but theyre going to cost up to wazzo in energy. The $$ isnt that big of a deal because you can just pay it from the profits you get, but the ENERGY hurts.

Also, 60,000 resources divided by 40 is only 1,500 resources per personal harvester. Im not even counting the fact that you need solars around to pay all that energy. You probably need 4 Solar energy collectors which would leave 6 Bigs collecting. Which would leaveonly 32 harvesters worth of mining, or 1,875 resources worthper personal harvester. A personal would still mine more than that. Not to mention the difficulty to place those suckers....

I dislike those suckers for other reasons too. They take a lot of extra room that I could be using to place a house. Come next shift, ill place my personals strategically to block those behemouths whenever possible.
