Thread: 98% Ore Mining unit thanks to crappy chemical

Yesterday I learned something important about the effectiveness calculations. Im sure most of you know this but wanted to repeat it for everyone.

On creating Ore Mining units it takes metal and chem, and the important stats are UT, HR, SR. I could always find good metal with nice stats, but the chem was killing me. Yesterday I learned that if the chem doesn't have UT, HR, SR stats, it is not included in the effectiveness calculation. So instead of buying expensive fiberplast with 700ish stats, I can use crappy lubricating oil and get better results.

Same goes for Light ore mining units. I used to worry about the OQ of the inert gas, now I realize I don't have to at all.

I made my first 98% effective OMU's last night, 88% was the best I ever got before.

Thanx for the info. I also assumed that if the material didn't have the stat it counted as a 0. I was using Polymer with a UT of 950 or so to help balance it out. Guess I'll have to try this out myself.

Congratulations! And having that OMU so high gives you lots of leeway on the final assembly.

Thank you Mikka you were the one who educated me. You are saving me thousands in wasted credits of buying chem I didn't need.

Yup, I heard this earlier and I am piling up some lub oil (before they nerf the process), so I'll be doing this real soon.

I only figured this one out recently. I was hoping that nobody else would catch on, so I could sell more BER 13 harvesters. Ahh well. Here's hoping they don't nerf this little perk.

They won't nerf it. In the past it was counting as 0, and in one of the updates/patches, one of the bullet items was that they fixed it so resources that don't have the stats in the target desired stats - don't count to the build anymore. It's an intended fix the way it is now.

I thought ore mining units used metal and inert gas. Things must have changed recently.

Light ore mining units use only metal and inert gas. The OMU's for heavys take MUCH more resources.

sweet...I hope that stuff works in final combines too...that'd save a ton of higher quality polymers

Well, there isn't really any "hoping" involved. The basic principal that if a resource doesn't have a specific attribute (like UT) then it doesn't count in the experimentation calcuation is universal - it works for making ore mining units, crafting tools, and harvesters.
