Thread: My final say on this small house pricing fiasco.
This whole argument is getting a bit ridiculous at this point.
At any rate, you're all missing the point anyway. Everyone is complaining about small house pricing. Well, I've passed up Buildings I some time ago, and in all honesty, even though I have been selling small houses for 10K, I don't really plan on making many more small houses. I've got scads of people begging me for mediums, larges, and PA halls.
I think for most of us Architects that have been powering through the first couple of weeks (and we're most likely the ones with lower pricing) we won't really be dealing in small houses much ;pmger, and this will allow the slower learning Architects to reset the pricing where they like.
I mean, seriously, are Master Armorcrafters sitting around making Bone Armor? Are Master Weaponsmiths making CDEF pistols? No, as you learn better skills, those lower on the tree are used less and less.
Why am I gonna stop what I am going, drop everything to make a 10K sale when I've got people lined up begging for sales of over 70K? I'm not.
This will balance itself out over time. You're all freaking out about small house pricing, it's the CRAPPIEST thing an Architect can make. You can all HAVE the small house business and argue over who gets 10K or 15K, the whole thing has gotten just ridiculous. I'll be building larger structures, and you'll all still be sitting around arguing over a piddly little 3 or 4K difference in small home pricing.
Have fun! I'm off to be a Master Architect and help plan communities, help groups of friends all work together, and enjoy my skills as an Architect. I am done posting about this issue.
Potnik
we are all bitching about small house prices now because thats what most architects can make.
1week from now we will all be bitching about medium house prices, it'll make no difference.
Lol terrorbeat, I see many of your posts and most of the time don't think its worth my time to respond to someone like you. Your first recurring thing is that in every post you must insult somebody, maybe you get picked on a lot, who knows. That there rules out any maturity in them.
Ialso just saw you post something on ppl not being able to manage there resources and yet your here raising your prices. Hmm, ironic.
You've also managed to compare both the armorsmith and weaponsmiths to an artisan level skill. And then go ahead and use advanced architect against a novice architect. Ummm, do you even think about what you type before you post? That is a serious question, I really wanna know.
I think 10k for a small is underpriced, but I dont really care, I sell all mine for much more and everyone else can do as they feel. Give them away for all it matters.
But if you plan on making a final statement, put some thought into it if you didnt. And if you did.......
Maybe maybe not. Every architect I have spoken with, even the ones like me charging the evil "low" pricing, are planning on charging more for mediums. More room for failure = higher cost of completion.
My cost per resource WILL be higher on Mediums.
Good attitude.

Chelis:
1) I don't insult people. Architects who cannot "afford" to sell a house for 10K are not managing themselves properly. It's not an insult, it's a fact. I have many Architect friends, and they all charge varying prices, and none of us are starving. Some have lots of help, some have none. I have more money than I know what to do with, and I didn't have to run around charging people 18K for a house to become that way. I think considering my harvesters do all the work for me, and that it takes 20 minutes to make a small home, the price I charge is just fine. If you all want to gouge the customers, go right ahead.
2) Yes, I am raising my prices, and no, it's not ironic. It's called smart business. The chance of me failing on a small house is less than a medium house, there's more to craft in a medium. So therefore, my cost of doing business on a medium house is higher. It's called smart business, not irony. Perhaps if you did the same you'd have plenty of money and happy customers like me. Again, not an insult, just a suggestion.
3) I agree, my comparisons were poor. I don't know much about Weaponsmithing or Armorcrafting, so I don't know what the first item on their tree is. But I think my point was obvious. A Master anything isn't going to spend their day crafting the first item they learned to craft as a Novice anything. If you want to argue semantics, go ahead, my words were poorly chosen. But your argument fails to discredit my statement, just the words I used. If you're going to say my statement is wrong, you're going to have to come back with something better than that.
4) Good for you, I'm glad you sell yours for more. I'd love to too, and I've said that over and over in ALL my posts about the pricing issue. However, I was UNABLE to. Do you get that? NOBODY WOULD BUY IT AT MORE THAN 10K from me. I really don't know how can I make that any more clear to you. I'm not trying to kill ANY market, and certainly not the Architect one, it's the one I have to live and work in as long as I play this character. But I'm not an idiot, and that means I'm not going to sit there and build deed after deed after deed and hold on to them hoping I can convince some fool to overpay me for a deed when they can get it for cheaper from 50 other Architects on my server. So, I sold them at "Market Value", and where I live, 10K is market value. I am sick and tired of being criticized for selling my product at the price set by both my customers and the other Architects who obvioulsy convinced them of this. I didn't choose the price, YOU all did.
You're pathetic attempt to discredit me by stating I don't put thought into what I say was both not constructive AND rather rude. I put a lot of though into whatI say. I put a lot of thought into what I do. I put a lot of work into my profession. I put a lot of care into making sure my customers both enjoy and understand how to use their new homes.
I'm a good Architect, and my customers will back that up, I guarantee it. I sell a quality product at a very fair price and I back up my product with support and discounts on future purchases. I have real life experience in running a business, and in marketing. I love games that use resource management a la Sim City. I am becoming very good at being an Architect because itmixes my love of those games and of MMORPGs. I truly believe that 10K is a perfectly reasonable price based on the amount of time and money it takes me to make the product. if you disagree, that's fine. I have no beef with you, but you sure seem to have one with me. I'd imagine so, nobody likes another business in town selling the same product at a lower price. But you know what, it's a free market. Shall I call you the WAAAAAmbulance?
Personally, despite all the clicking and the fact that I'm up to install III (and will be buildings II tonight, if I want), I still enjoy small houses much more. They have a lot less variety in resources, and my losses to critical failures are less devastating. In fact, I'm going to stop taking factory orders unless they provide the gas and copper (or whichever metal I'm short of).
Atoner:
You obviously haven't read any of my posts. I have ONE friend who brings me some additional resources once in a while, he wanted a medium house and helped me get there a little. I don't have and big PA help. I run 6 mineral harvester and 2 wind harvesters. Their all on relatively crappy veins right by my house for convenience, we're talking less than 60% veins. I can sell at 10K at a profit, if you can't, then I don't know what you're spending your money on.
And as far as the statement in general, it's ludicrous. There's no such thing as too much help, it's a massively MULTIPLAYER and it's focused on COOPERATION. If you go it alone, it will be harder, just like in DAoC, EQ, AO, UO, etc etc etc. Same goes for fighting classes, entertainers, anyone. Going it alone means you go slower. My solutions was simple, I made friends with people. Believe it or not, you can actually have MORE fun with the game that way!
/hugs her friends
terrorbeat has had some really cool points, and I think one of the important ones is that we are talking about small houses here.
Bone Armor went from a few k a piece to a few k a set in like a day on my server, when it went from 'something cool to make' to 'something cool to make architect/armorsmith/weaponsmith/droid engineer with'.
The PA hall makes things a bit screwey, because many people are riding through 'techs just to hit that plateau. But the power builders will be leaving small houess in the dust, and medium/large houses are for people looking to BUY, not looking to pick up a quick piece of property for 5k. Small houses are for power leveling, while medium houses are products worth producing.
And it's not that hard to get there. If I didn't take Installations I the other day, I'd be at Houses II right now. I chose installations because it is more important for me to increase my resource production right now then to make a mint selling quality homes.
*shrug* it'll all be cleared up soon enough, once all the uber folks got there PA hall (and therefore *no* incentive to care about building houses, and no point in selling them so cheap or small - and competing where there is too much competition), and once the maintenance price/power correction trickles through the market.

Thank you Glug. I appreciate that comment. /hug
I really feel bad, because I DO have a tendency to get a little heated, but the irony is that I've never actually "set" a house price, I always just got for it what I could, and I dropped the price until I found the point at which I could sell them quickly so I didn't spend all my time doing that. I would assume most other Architects have had similar experiences.
The only reason I ever got mad in the first place is there were posts all over this board basically calling anyone selling a house at 10K, and therefore calling ME, an idiot or a jerk or a lowballer or sundry other nasty nicknames. All I ever did was get would I could for my product. Every person I've sold a house to will tell you how friendly, supportive and helpful I was through the whole process from quoting, delivery, and post-construction support. I take my role seriously, I am no "grinder" or "power-crafter", I just happen to play about 14 hours a day. LOL
I have no intention of ruining my own market, and I have no intention of powerleveling to PA hall and then never building anything. Master Architect is my primary skill. I have some marksman and scout to defend myself and navigate terrain, and I have some dancing because a lot of my very good and dear friends in this game are entertainers and I like to hang out with them. When I reach Master Architect, as far as I am concerned, I am not "done," but rather I am finally ready to begin! I see the XP trees as "school" and I am just trying to graduate.
Kaori my friend.hehe
i started a thread about house pricing about 2 weeks ago... people laughed at me when i said that it would be a good idea to set prices amoung Architects. i was told that "capitalism" would prevail. now that there are more architects people are getting worried about the prices dropping. so... regretfully so... I Told You So.
i, like kaori, don't care for small houses anymore, and only make them as favors. i'll be focusing on medium andlarge houses as well as a PA hall for my PA (Computer Deli).
i can also make factories for those interested.
kaori, may the force be with you. i still think we should start our own Architect Union.
