Crafting the same things day in and day out gets boring so does constantly having to micro manage your harvesters, resources, shifts etc.

The one artisan profession that seems needed and yet has few followers is architect.

That is because most of us already quit. Trust me there is no shortage of us out there.

How do you like being an architect?

Well it all depends, if you've been keeping up on current events you will know that are experimentation was stealth added. If it remains the way it is with current harvester extraction rates, I admit I am somewhat excited about being an architect again. If the gets renaged, then I quit architect is not worth my time and the way this has been handled by the dev team is pitiful.

What was hard about becoming one?

Currently, not a thing. Spend some time gathering enough ore and metal with as many harvesters as you can then grind out wall modules. If you have all the resources available you can go from Novice to Master in a day... pretty sad.

What do you like most about it?

Currently there is not much to like. We do not have decay, houses have no valid use for a player except storageso demand sucks, harvesters are in a state of limbo becuase of the above issues, we have a pitifully low profit margin becuse of poor demand and lowballers, we need signifigantly more resources than any other crafting proffession. If you critical fail on a large strucutre you loose anywhere from 27k-60k of resources where other crafters loose in the neighborhood of maybe 1-2k at most usually much lower ... What's not to like?

How good is the income if you dedicate yourself to it?

How good is the what? at 3cpu which is the avg price you can charge someone on most servers without being belittled by people (even though most will belittle you even at this price nowadays) it is harldy worth your time crafting anything. Just save the resources and put them on the bazaar or your own vendor you will make the same if not more profit.

Are you happy you became an architect?

At this point no I'm not. I am bitter and jaded (if you couldn't tell lol ) I like the idea of Architect but we are the most 'broken" out of the "working" crafting proffsions from an economic standpoint. We also seem to take far more abuse from the general population than any other crafting proffesion except maybe DE's when someone finds out the driod they just bought doesn't really do much other than follow them around

I have also thought of trying other crafting classes like Chef, Droid-Engineer,

Don't touch them, they are still horribly broken from a functionality standpoint.

and semi-crafting classes like Bio-Engineer andSmuggler.

BE, I have one but she is not very good yet. They got a lot of luvin in this publish but I honestly don't know how much of their major issues have been resolved i am by no means an expert on BE to say, I would pop over to their board and feel the temperature after this last publish. Smuggler's don't bother imo, zero combat skills, moves have been horribly nerfed, and spices are all but usless except maybe 2 in spices 4 which there is no demand for regardless.

I plan to keep Teras Kasi Master, but I am open to all other suggestions.

If you want a crafting class for the change, i would suggest weapons then armorsmith. At least the devs love them. Every patch they keep getting fixes and luvin thrown at em, not to mention their profit margins are extrodinary due to demand and decay.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this seems a bit negative but if you seriously came here looking for our opinion and not to put another thorn in our side, then this is how I seriously feel about the proffession after this whole harvester fiasco.

If you want varied gameplay this is not the profession for you. I took on some architect skills to help my small PA with some orders. Before I knew it I had skilled up almost 3 tree's just by making structure modules that go into making walls. This is by far the easiest profession besides entertainer to skill up in that I have seen. Justa lot of repetative clicking and dragging.

Now I do a lot of orders on my own and I am constently running around and crafting duringmy time online. Checking factories, going back to the crafting station, meeting with people...etc etc.

That being said, the money is pretty good and I enjoy doing this a lot. But sometimes it feels like a job. Knowing that when I get online I have orders I need to fill. I just can't go off and explore because I told someone that I would have a fusion gen waiting for them when they came online that night.

If you were really on the ball and had all your ducks in a row you could probably be a lot more organized. Play it right and try not to take on to much and you may have fun.

Let me give you the other viewpoint.

I love being an architect, the class is sound but it is becoming more difficult for some to remain in business as an architect as the market is somewhat saturated with our products.

But the class works well, all the trees are now functional, it is kind of neat to build a house for someone and then visit them, and help the decorate it with furniture and such. It does take a lot of time taking care of your extractors, but that is part of the fun for me. It is best I you are a part of a PA and have a support network.

All in all it is a very fulfilling class for me, I love i

First off, thanks for your direct and to the point (read blunt) opinion of architect. I sort of felt that this was the basic state of affairs, but I still liked the idea of making buildings. I posted this in all seriousness. I am only vaguely aware of your issues, and the one thing I can say is that this board seems to be more subdued (read mature) in its complaints than TKA (a profession that is mostly working). So an outsider dropping in doesn't get blasted in the face with the"WE ARE TOTALLY NERFED I QUIT" type messages you see on TKA board every day.

"Smuggler's don't bother imo, zero combat skills, moves have been horribly nerfed, and spices are all but usless except maybe 2 in spices 4 which there is no demand for regardless. "

Judging by your signature you speak from experience. However Smuggler would be very easy for me to pick up, I already qualify for novice smuggler. There is the slicing aspect of a smuggler business. Remember, I am not in it for the combat features, more for a new kind of game play that involves making things and selling them. Smuggler just sounded like a nice change of pace.

"If you want a crafting class for the change, i would suggest weapons then armorsmith. At least the devs love them."

The reason I did not mention these is that there are already way too many weaponsmiths and armorsmiths on Eclipse (my current server). While I could try to compete with them, I have a feeling it would be a losing battle. And to be honest making weapons doesn't sound all that fun to me. I was hoping to try something very different from what I am currently doing.

I will take your advice and check out the Bio-Engineer forum. I do like some of the things I have seen BEs make.

Thanks.

Like Dayln I love being an architect. I can tell you though that there are plenty of arch's out there even though I see about 1 master per week leave my server. I play the class b/c I have fun making stuff and I can help my friends and PA and others do what they need.

I am also looking forward to being a part of a merchant city. After that I dont know how much I will want to stay in the class when it becomes harder and harder to sell stuff at a reasonable profit and if they dont make some changes (furniture color pallette!!!).

Hi everyone, I have a purely combat oriented character. He a Teras Kasi Master as well as a Commando. While playing this character can be great fun, I have been wondering what it would be like to be a crafting class of some sort. The main reasons are money, and varied game play.

It gets old killing the same ole things everyday, and while I have found ways to amuse myself and new quests to run etc., I still feel like it's the same basic game play all the time. The one artisan profession that seems needed and yet has few followers is architect.

I love it !!..

Business is brisk, but not suffocating (thank god i'm not the only one in Keran anymore), the money is **edit** good, and the customer base I have are all reasonable RPers. Selling my wares has never been so interesting.

Running a store is great fun, and seeing my handywork on the landscape gives me a nice warm feeling.

There's not much to spend my millions on right now, but come the space expansion, I won't be short of cash.

Nice work Devs !!

well, for the most part I actually enjoy being an architect. But I must say that eclipse must be an entirely different world from Kettemoor. I can't go 10 feet in a town it seems without seeing a master or novice architect. In fact, a couple days ago I was doing some travelling around looking at a few different things in towns... all told i stood around at about 5 different shuttleports. 3 times i found myself waiting with at least 2 other master arch's.... and at one shuttle? 6, yes, count em... there were 6 master architects waiting to travel. I felt like I had just missed a freaking convention...lol.

Money has never been an issue for me and I don't advertise at all. I get all my work from tells from folks that see me in town, or referrals from people I know or have done work for. I don't build 5 structures a day, in fact i may only sell 1 every few days sometimes, but to be honest, at this point, the money's not a problem and this lets me do other things I enjoy. I've even shifted my focus so that now I'm focused primarily on interior design. building large scale centerpieces for homes and pa halls, and displays for shops. I find it to be much more rewarding than the normal click click crafting and people are so happy when they're done that I get nearly as much satisfaction out of the customers reaction as I do out of the credits. Heck, don't tell anyone, but I'd build a lot of this stuff for free if people would let me use their house... hehe.

Hi Idris,

Like you I started off as a combat specialist. I got a bit bored with that and decided to start crafting. I think the appeal to me was making my own home. I still enjoy being an Architect. I have an R5 unit with a structure crafting station (get a droid with one of these, they are great). So when I'm suffering down time while hunting, healing, etc I can pull him out and craft away. Makes it a lot easier.

There is a lot of repitition in Arch crafting. You are going to make more structure modules than you know what to do with. You will need ten of these to make a wall. Some structures require seven walls. So for large objects you are looking at 80+ sub components. But making your own home and being able to decorate it at whim by just making the new furniture is great.

You'll spend a lot of time with harvesters. So expect to spend lots of time either tending those or surveying. I personally enjoy the surveying aspect. I get out, explore, and take the odd creature down as I look around. If you enjoy exploring than the surveying part follows easily.

The hardest part for me was the Artisan grind to get Architect in the first place. I would recommend you get Survey IV for the above mentioned reason. You'll have to work thru the Engineering branch then the 33k general crafting XP to get Novice Arch. It's very tedious. I did it by making the infamous bone helmets and chestplates. Hope to never see either of them again. If you plan on using those to grind stock up on lots of hide. I think each chest plate took 115 hide. Also use practice mode on the grind. It's on 5% but every little bit will help.

As for money. I don't run my Architect as a business. I just keep the title up and let people send me tells. I don't make a lot of money this way but I do it more as a hobby. When someone does ask me to quote a price I usually give 3cr/unit required as my price. I don't have a lot of money but I have enough to be comfortable. I know Archs that actually push it as business make some decent money. I ran into one the other day wanting to buy resources off of me. He had orders for ten heavy harvesters and a couple PA halls. Almost two million in sales pending. So the money is out there is you want it.

They recently changed personal harvesters so that they now give general crafting XP rather than structure XP. So now the windmill makes a good grind item. 260 resources of metal, ore and chem and it gives 520 xp per shot. You can make a few to use or sell and then practice on the rest. Or other harvseters give almost as much XP if you want some to keep or resell.

It is too late to be an Architect. There are too many of usunless there are many like me who are thinking about dumping all the certs and become a pure combat character.

I really enjoyed the architect life. . . . until the last patch.

Being told something bad wasn't going to happen, and then seeing it land on my face .. . hurt.

The fact that I'm a smaller operation with 1 account means I didn't like the idea of experimentation anyways. And I just watched a +25 skill tape sell for 1.5 million, so now I'm starting to think this wasn't the right fit for me at all.

It was the right fit, and I enjoyed it. But not it is changing more like 'work', and less like 'fun'. But everyone has their own idea of 'fun', and so be it.

If you are looking at it from a crafting perspective, then Smuggler isn't bad at all (although I don't see much market for spices). While you can make a real nice profit from clamps, if you could spare the points it would be wise to pick up Novice weaponsmith and armorsmith as well. This would allow you to make AUKs and WUKs also. Throw in some knives and you have quite the lucrative little business. My smuggler vendor has been the backbone for me and gotten me through some of my rougher begining architect days. Business has dropped off but i think thats mainly due to smgglers not being flavor of the month since commando's got fixed.

All in all I really like Architect and I consider my business to be successful. I guess this is why I get so animated about the problems we do have. I want this class to be everything it has the potential to be but my patience for MMO's and their issues in general is wearing pretty thin. So while reading back through my post I still stand by everything I said, events within the past 24 hours (GreenMarines post) have given me a light at the end of the tunnel and rekindled a small glimmer of hope for this proffession for me.
