Hello all my Architect brothers and sisters.....Just curious but have you guys ever had someone ask for a large order....say....20 Heavy Mineral harvestors.....and then say....something like, i''ll give you 1 million credits for those....and your like, um....I (in my case) charge 130k per heavy harvestor....so that works out to 2.6 million.....and they get all pissy about the price? I do get the distinct inpression that they have no idea how much time and resources go into making them. Then they try tobarter you down in price (which is understandable), but they want to barter you down to a price that would make just selling the resources a more attractive buisness venture....honestly.....i get a little tired of trying to explain to people that it takes an enormous amount of resources to make these harvestors and or structures....are we the most underappreciated merchants in the game? Anyways, i just felt like blowing off some steam.....thanks for reading......(deep breath)...

If someone is ordering 20 heavies all at once, I will usually give them a break on the price. I do the same with lamps and furniture. Single items always cost more than crated multiples, and the price break is directly proportional to the number of items. It's a common practice, and I'm not surprised that your customers are asking you to do this, although 1 Million for 20 is a little ridiculous. I usuallly charge 120K perheavy. For an order of 20 I will drop to 100K per.

i totally agree with you, on large orders, i'm more then willing to drop the price.....its the customer that ask for me to half my price that is getting to me...lol....

Low balling like that in haggling is kinda rude really. Shows the person in question isn't very good at haggling, IMHO. They shoudl know better.

If someone were selling a house for $200k in RL you wouldn't offer $60k. They'd laugh in your face.

Even if you're a reasonably priced architect you get that crap. A guy wanted a bulk order of 20 small houses for 7.5k per. I told him to take a hike, that's under 3 CPU, there's no profit there when you buy your resources, particularly on Bloodfin. I countered with 10k (which is my normal price) and he stopped talking to me. Oh well, good luck to him finding someone who can make 20 smalls at 7.5k per. I'm sure not going to.

Actually, I sell smalls for 8k per and when you buy 4, the 5th one is free. So 20 small houses would be 128k or 6.4k per.That offer is only good on small houses and tents though. Meds are a flat 40k and Larges a flat 80k.

I harvest ALL my resources and cant fathom overpricing. Ive found that the lower the prices, the more I sell, the more I make. My 13BER harvestors sat on my vendor at 100k for weeks.. so I dropped them to 80k and hey are all gone now..instead of a vandor full of harvestors, I have a bank full of money.

As for the original post. I never haggle over prices... except for guildhalls. My guildhalls are 350k, if the person is nice about it, I'll go as low as 250k. Everything else is a set price. I send people to my website if they have questions on pricing (in my sig).

I know I've said "If you don't like my prices, find another Architect" to many people who have this idea that just becasue you wanna start a guild, you are entitled to a cheap, or even free GuildHall.. and more than not, they accept my price and I make the sale.

I brought up my prices this wekend, when I moved to another city/planet. My stuff is still cheap, but I harvest 90% of my resources. BER13 go for 100k, then it's 10k less per BER. Fusions BER14 I sell for 150k. All other strucs are slightly above 2cpu.

Off topic, how much would you pay for arch experimentation skill tapes?

You can get any ore or grinding metal for 2.5-3 cpu... But like I said, I harvest all my own resources so all I pay is harvestor maintenence and travel expenses.

I just lowered my housing prices yesterday because 1. I had a vendor full of houses that werent selling, and 2. our City Sales Tax pushes my prices over what I think is a fair price. They were at Small- 10k, Med- 50k, Large- 100K.

I'm not a big seller fo homes though, I only sell 2-3 a day if any. My furniture vendors though I have to stock well at least once a week. I make 200-500k a day in furniture sales, and at my prices.. yes, my mailbox is ALWAYS full.

So are you intentionally selling the houses as a loss leader? i.e. selling them real cheap to get business into your shop?

Cause if grind resources fetch 2.5-3 cpu then selling finished deeds at 2 cpu is selling for below the market of the raw materials. It doesn't matter if you mine your own stuff or not.

You have 2 options :

A) mine ore and sell it on the open market for 2.5 cpu

B) mine ore and turn it into houses and sell them for 2 cpu

Option B is more work and lower income.
