Its very hard to know who here is an architect and who here isnt when it comes to taking polls and stuff.

For example, An architect can rebuild structures that decay and make money from them so not all but some may want decay. However there are plenty of people who may have bought Heavy harvesters or been Master Architects and made 10 of them then dropped all the skills but still uses the harvesters to make cash selling resources. These people would definately not want decay of any form because their business would go out the window.

I would suggest you find a way when taking polls to make sure only Masters in that Profession are able to vote. After all they are the ones who have incested all the time and stuck with the profession and should have the biggest say in things that effect it.

Its a very hard call to make any large changes to a profession based on polls that for the most part could be full of NON architect voters.

so, you don't think the opinion of the person who will be purchasing the items matters? not every person who isn't an architect is out to stop us from making money or having fun.

In fact,at least someof the people who weren't architects in the decay poll voted in favor of it for harvesters.

just because they don't play the class doesn't automatically mean their opinion doesn't count.

Why would anyone who is not an architect want an item they buy to decay?? So when it comes to that, no. The non-architect opinion matters not.

Here's an example that will pretty much clear it up.

Lets put a poll on the Weaponsmith board asking if Decay in weapons should be done away with. What do you think the non-weaponsmith community would say Vs. the Weaponsmith community? Hmmm?

Well this is the architect froum so ONLY architect opinions should count. The way I see it if all these structures got deleted the only people to profit are the architects who can rebuild them.

Obviously NON architects would jump in and vote no dont delete all the items I bought from an architect.

(NOTE: Im using the word delete to speed up what decay eventualy does )

The truth of the matter is I was master architect 14 days after the launch and have NEVER sold a harvester of any type to anyone. I did that simply because I realised that if everybody in the game had 10 harvesters going then the price of resources would be zero and the price of my products would be zero. On top of that I had to work and sample my way to master while new Novice players simply put down 10 heavy harvesters and never had to sample a day in their lives.

Every Architect who has ever sold a harvester is responsible for the state of our profession. We cant complain that resources are to cheap and that everyone expects us to sell our stuff cheap while at the same time some of you are still selling more and more harvesters to non architects.

Imagine the situation we would be in if Armour Smiths and Weapon Smiths could only buy resources from us because they didnt have any harvesters. Unfortuantely they do because some architect sold it to them.

I vote to add decay to ALL architect items. HOWEVER the decay should not apply to the architect himself.

In other words my harvester will decay if you use it but not if I use it myself. OR it only decays if you dont have the skill to make it yourself which would solve the people dropping the skill later issue.

Sorry Im being very tough on other professions that need resources but hey Im an Architect and this is the Architect board.

1. There's no way to enforce it.
2. It's not a good idea to begin with.

Structure turn over isn't a matter of if, it is a matter of when and how. The people that want no decay are generally the same people that feel they should be able to solo a krayt dragon. It's just not good game design, though I am not sure if I trust the developers to come up with a good way to handle this. The 3 ATSTs soloing a krayt dragon is an excellent example of that.

As to all the non-architects coming here durning poll time to say no to decay, that was very annoying. As soon as the servers become saturated with deeds maybe missions should stop paying. Sounds fair to me.

Unfortunately there's not alot I can do about it for so many reasons. First of all, non-architects do have the right to an opinion. SOE is interested in hearing the opinions of the community in general as well as the Architect community. But more importantly, it would be impossible to filter out non-architects from the forum. And after all, what about those that WILL be Architects, or players that WERE Architects? They should have a right to voice their opinions.

But this is pretty much a moot point anyways. It's hard enough to put through a request to get the Experimentation set back to +100, let alone get them to shut the Profession forums to "Profession only".

As far as the votes, the goal is just to get a feel of how everyone feels about it, such as decay. SOE may or may not take this information but it helps them to get a little feel for how the population swings. Ultimately they will decide if things will go through or not. If they think an idea won't work, even if there are 100% votes for it, it probably wont fly.

Sorry... Out of my control

Get over yourself InflictorOfPain. You do not hold the sum knowledge of what all architects think in the palm of your hand.

Not all architects believe in decay of structures.

How do I know? I am Amri Edo on Chilastra, master architect since about 14 days into release and still a master architect thank you very much.

My personal opinion on structure decay as presented?

/disagree
/disagree

Don't believe me? Log into chilastra and I will show you my title. Give me some synthetic cloths and some thalium copper I will make you a master chair if you do not trust titles.

IMO decay as applied to structures is unworkable. Unlike other items it is a royal pain in the butt to deal with decay on a house as a player. This is not something I would inflict on anyone. Think of the pain of moving 7 or 8 vendors from one broken house to a new one. Aparently you are some sort of sadist. Further there is no reason at all to have to add structure decay into the game to make the architect viable long term.

Now if you ask me I think architects need a consumable, perhaps in the form of structures for the GCW (something alluded to by the devs as upcoming) and am fully and completely in support of that. I am also in support of putting player cities into the existing tree, adding more options for experimentation for product differentiation and adding a lot more variety to schematics like color and additional functionality (lighting). I would also not mind seeing re-deed tools and other consumables that are similar to repair tools.

What you fail to realize that there is a lot of options at our disposal for long term viability of the profession without touching structure or furniture decay. Most of which have a lot less impact in terms of player disatisfaction.

Thank for the reply ArchAngel, I disagree that non architects should have an opinion on this board because its like saying an Architect has the right to tell creature handlers if there pets should have perma death. There seperate professions and it should be up to the people actually spending the time playing the profession to determine whats a good or bad change for it. ( Im talking about on its official profession board what they say about other professions on the discussion board or their own boards is up to them ).

Its a shame you couldnt maybe send an ingame mail to everyone who is a Master Architect or for that matter a system to do it for any profession. That way they could get straight answers from the people it concerns in rapid time. Then the correspondants could have a lot of fun with it and focus on certain things a lot better.

Thanks for the reply anyway.

Good work.

i have absolutly no intention of being a "handyman"....i am Designer....my idea of fun is not fixing people leaky rooves.....

the thing many of you do not ever take into account is that a good number of players are aligned with with PAs...most PAs have their own architects...the work and business the minority of you believe decay will create will not happen....most people will get it for free from their PA or will buy another underpriced structure while waiting for the shuttle...it will not create a new market...

if anything it will drive prices even further into the ground....

Inflictorofpain, this may be the architect board, but non architects come here to see whta our opinions and beleifs on the subject are, not to mentiong THEY are your income. Don't make your incomeangry by blowing them off. I'm relatively new to star wars, and mmorpgs in general but one like this, with a player dependant economy needs every bit of information it can get. If you don't talk to your customers, how will you know what they want? I am no way trying to insult you, I am simply stating that the input of Non architects is a very nessesary thing.

Ok, just to play one side of devils advocate here..

What makes a Novice Architect's opinion less important than mine as a Master or any of the other Masters out there? Believe it or not if you go back and read the messages above, some of you aresaying if you are not a MASTER ARCHITECT go away and do not post here. No I am not reading into it. It is stated in more than 1 message above that only MASTERS should be allowed to post or only their votes should count. That in my opinion is wrong, this is not the Master Architect Forum, this is theforum created by Sony for discussions about the architect profession. I do not believe anywhere does it state that you have to be in a certain profession to post inthat profession's discussionforum.

I like to read some of thenon-architect opinions that I see in here, it lets me see what my customers are thinking. There is more than enough room for everyone's opinions here, you just have to do a sanity check on the questions that you see.

Ask anyone in the game except the profession that creates an item to sell and you will get an overwhelming NO to decay. How many pistoleers want that uber pistol they just dropped 50-100k on to decay? Now how many Weaponsmiths DO want the item to decay so that they can get more money. Without taking a single vote I can tell you that the majority will be in favor of whatever favors THEMSELVESmost.. plain and simple.

There is no reason to ask the question about wether or not decay should exist for us, it is pretty much a black and white issue (at least in my opinion). The question that I feel needs to be asked instead is; How do we implement some sort of item decay so that we can have a steady and lasting stream of income and not cripple our customers when a house decays on them because they are on vacation and they lose several hundreds of thousands of credits worth of items.

Furniture decay in my opinion *could* work out, but it would have to include a constant introduction of new furniture items so that a customer whose old couch wears out would WANT to shop for a new and improved one. You could even phase out production of the older items in favor of the new ones. That would ensure a steady stream of customers to our doors as they will all want to get newer and newer stuff. You *could* do that with houses too. Periodically dump Naboo Small floor plan 1 and insert Naboo Small floor plan 3 with something special to make customers want to upgrade to it. Maybe reducing the overall mx costs or something like that.. Then dump Style 2 in favor of Style 4 a couple of months later. It could be as simple as changing the color of the outsideor the inside walls.

Hi Blethezar, well a Master has gone the whole way which is what should make his/her vote worth more.

For example someone maybe a Novice Architect with master Weapon Smith ( if thats possible ).

Now this master weapon smith may have bought or made 10 heavy Harvesters and now gets all the resources for his weapons without ever having to worry about replacing the harvesters. If his vote to not have decay counts as much of that as a master Architect then thats just wrong.

Im not overly worried about decay on Houses and furniture. I find them of little use in the game currently so chances are most people unless they need shops would simply redeed there house or let it and the furniture fall apart.

Harvesters are a whole business in themselves. They are the real decay issue that has to be dealt with. Comming a close second would be all types of feul harvesters.

Maybe when cities go live houses will play a larger role to the non shop owners but at the moment In my opinion whether they or furniture has decay or not is not something that I would consider an issue.
