Thread: Ran a test tonight and came out with an 11.8% critical Failure rate

That sounds about right to me from my own personal experience. That's why when I do factory runs, I always make sure I make 10 or more to justify the schematic.

needed to make ten walls tonight to fill an order and seeing my factory was already tied up, decided I would keep track. I made 100 structure modules, and 10 walls.

tally at the end was failed on 12 structure modules and 1 wall, thats 11.8% failed out of what was made.

My crafting stations are at 76%

The steel used is 883 quality

The Ore used is 955 quality

I know this is beating a dead horse but from a Master Architects point of view, structure modules and walls are something I should be able to make with my eyes closed. I will run this test again tomorrow night and see if the results are the same. If another Master Architect out there could run the same test to compare results on we might have some real hard numbers to have our team lead show the Devs.

No way.

I made 10 walls yesturday. Crit failed only 3-4 of the structural modules and Zero Walls.

What Race are you, Mon Cal? You're not sampling while you craft, right? You've upgraded your Structure & Furniture Crafting device to be 95+%?

Also, when you're crafting those structure mods and get a critical failure, you should immediately make several wall modules. It's very unlikely to get two critical failures in a row, or even that close together.

Using this method, I haven't lost a wall module in several weeks. (I also used high quality copper to remake my crafting tools and stations to 99% Effectiveness.)

Not to burst your bubble but... that is totally incorrect. It is commonly known as the "Gamblers Fallacy". The odds of a crit DO NOT change based on the sucess or failure or recent attempts. What you are seeing is called the "Clustering Illusion". Typing either term in to google will provide you with lots of either boring or interesting reading depending on your interests.

When I do have crits I tend to have 2 or 3 in a row then none for a long time, I think this is just luck so neither way should be depended on.

I wasnt looking at how close they were together, just how many I had for a set number of constructed items. However, if anyone is curious, when I crit on the wall, it was followed by2 crits on structural modules. yep, 3 in a row, My wife retreated to the living room. I am going to run this test with some other variations over the next few days. I am really beginning to believe that nothing but pure dumb luck counts.

Penf0ld: In a perfectly random environment, yes, but there is nothing that says SWG is a perfectly random environment. I, too, have noticed that critical failures inordinately follow other critical failures.

I've got 98% efficiency tools, and 98% efficiency crafting stations and guess what? I fail maybe 1 in 50 items.

You listed the resources quality, but what about Unit Toughness? That's all that matters for structures and wall units. When I went from an ore at toughness of about 27 to one over 800, my crits went from about 10% to under 4%. I know it's anecdotal, but what's the toughness on your materials?

Crafting risk, which is the number in the red, pointlessly animated box on the right, heavily, perhaps exclusively, depends on two things: how many points you put into experimentation (going "deeper" into one attribute raises risk substantially more than spreading your experimentation points around), and the Malleability stats of your resources.

I used three different food/chem crafting tools to do those tests, bought at different times, they are almost certainly not of the same quality. I assert that crafting tool "quality"hasABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with failure rates.

Did you just go up the Engineeringbranch in Artisan?

If you notice both the Engineering and Domestic Arts branch both grant +10 Artisan Assembly at each level. So if you only did Eng. 1-4 you would have +60 (+20 at Novice). If you did both Eng. and Dom. Arts you would have +100

I'm willing to bet this has a far greater influence on success/failure than the tool or material quality.

Also dabbling in Furniture branch of Architect seems to further improve Structure crafting, not sure how this affects things.

Anyways, something to try if you continue to have a horrible success rate.

I can craft structural modules on the run (complexity 8), but I prefer to do walls by a crafting station (complexity 15), just to be safe.

I did craft a Solar Power Generator in the field once, but that was because I was in a hurry and found a good spot.

GL on those successes!

You know, I feel sorry for you master architects that crit fail even 10% of the time. I really do. But for me, pretty much still a novice with only installations 2, I crit fail at least 25% of the time. Today trying to make wall modules for a factory order, i crit failed 2 wall modules in a row! That's not including the 3 structure modules I crit failed. This is making is near impossible to actually be an architect by trade. I'm losing money on everything I make. This is getting abso-**edit**ing-lutely ridiculous.
