Thread: Heavy Harvesters and Luck!

Greetings,

I'm a 4,4,4,3 Arch and have been very patient this week amassing the resources I need to make my first batch of heavies. I do all the factory runs to make the walls, turbines, storage mods etc and get a great run on 92% ore mining units.

If I get lucky on the first experiment I can either do a factory run as I have enough bit's n bobs to make 6 heavies (the safe option) or I can try my luck and go for 7 hand made. Hmmmm

Anyway the first one gets a good sucess and I end up with a BER 12, Bugger!

Still , I can do a factory run of 5 - still ok

Second try gets off to a great success - then crits on me - BER 10 - D'oh

Are well - maybe I can get a good one and do a run of 4

Crits staight away - D'OH

The factory run is now out as 3 isnt really worth it, so I will play the law of averages and go for hand made ones right?

Wrong!!- another BER 12, followed by some swearing and a BER 10.

God thats unlucky - but I have have 2 tries left and no-one can be unlucky enough to fail six times in a row.

WoW - an Amazing.......followed by a crit! As I have already been swearing I multi-task by walking round the room, waving my arms and swearing at the same time.

Once I calm down, I sit back at my desk and with an angry hand hit combine using the last of my resources - an Amazing, followed by a great and a BER 13 heavy Mineral is mine, or would be if I didn't in my haste accidently hit 'Create Manufacturing Schematic'.

Bugger!

So, as I see it I only have a few options remaining.....

1 Go round to next doors and kick their dog, as we don't have one.

2 Swear some more - but as the first lot of swearing didn't help......

3 Go for a lie down

4 Write about it in the Arch Boards so you can have a giggle and also to see if this is normal or if anyone else has been this unlucky.

I think we've all had streaks of bad luck like yours. I have a personal rule that if I critically fail or fail in experimentation too often, I just log or do something else in-game.

This is most likely a bug. Good Luck getting it fixed. The critical failure thing seems to run in streaks. By streak, I mean if it starts happening to you one night, just quit because it will keep happening that night. I can sometimes go for a couple weeks without having one of those nights. But when it happens, I can't make it stop. On those nights, everything structural I try gets failures in the 2nd or 3rd experimentation try.

My workaround -- kick the living crap out of something (NOT YOUR DOG or your neighbor's either) and come back and craft it tomorrow.

Yeah, could be those final 10 points of structure assembly and structure experimentation you are missing that is stopping you from getting there. I suggest you wait until you are master before having a go at these, it can be an expensive business to waste resources on heavies that don't quite cut it.

i was making a bike for a friend a few days ago. i had 3 crit fails in a row on assembly... i have the very best of crafting tools and crafting station and the resourses were pretty good too... not to mention taht i am a master artisan...

in the end i went to a vender i know of that sells bikes a few hundred metres away and just bought my friend one heh.

but yes, i would wait till you are master before attempting any more heavies.. luck has to be a factor, but you are robbing yourself if you dont have the max skills you can get.

This is from the web page for WOW:

"Recipes will work every time. If you collect the proper ingredients to create an item, you don't have to worry about them being wasted due to failures. There's also no need to constantly experiment in World of Warcraft to find a combination of ingredients that will work. A recipe clearly lists what it will allow you to create and what raw materials are required. There's no guesswork (or surfing through dozens of Web sites) involved ..."

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

well that is all very well and good, but if everybody can make the same thing with no differentiation where is the fun or sense of achievement in that ? WoW have chosen to go that route, I for one would quit SWG if they followed the same path. It is the roleplaying I am in it for, I want to be recognised as a successful and reliable architect who provides a top class service with a top class product. I lose the possibility to be better than the next guywith my product quality if everybody can make exactly what the recipe says.

I think we've all been there and had that done to US !!! I'm trying not to become paranoid about the 'crit' failure issue, but it is hard.

I've noticed it seems to take my Crafting Station time to 'warm up' so as not to get critical failures. I know that sounds stupid... it sure does to me. So now, I'll never go straight into making a key component, but will make a couple Structure Mods and a Wall with small piles of leftover Ore and Metal, before I make something key.

Oh yeah, and if i get a couple Amazing success, I'll never change my socks (this last line was a joke)
