Im looking for a nice crafting station for food/chemicals, but im confused as to what the +41, +44 etc do. What precisley does that effect, and why would I benefit?

Thats a very good question that we can only speculate about cause SOE has never said anything about it.

But wasn't there a pretty extensive test posted on this forum a while back thatsuggested that the rating of a crafting station had NO EFFECT at all?

Well wonderful. I guess I wont spend that 50k+ on a high level station then.

Here's a more extensive answer from the FAQ:

Q-0.4: What does a high functionality rating (FR> +40) crafting station actually do? Why would we want a higher functionality rating?

A-0.4: This is a matter of some debate. The DEVs have not commented what the intended impact is supposed to be. Opinions among players differ from thinking that the higher functionality rating (FR) will decrease failures or increase great success experimentation to believing that higher FR makes no difference whatsoever to even those that think that higher FR worses experimentation results or increases failure. Personally, I believe that the jury is still out but higher FR is intended to be beneficial though it is possible it may not be implemented correctly at present. Here is one source of data with its own conclusion on the matter... http://swg-cantina.com/pages/frating/frsum.html (I am willing to add links to other experimet results that are of reasonable quality.)

its gives architects a way to make a little extra money selling the same item .... only they waste good resources making +43 or +44 ....and nothing is better except the number =/

I can't be bothered going for 40+. The ones I put out are between 28 and 31. They work fine. I use them myself and I don't really see a difference. To be quite honest, I can't see the difference between the ones I built while novice (<20)and the ones I build now.

The difference between a 44 and 45 station is about 400K credits.

Hmm.. Have the tests been done on every crafting profession? From what I have seen, experimentation is a bit different on each one. I know with architect, it seems there is no visible difference, but there are many others out there.

In my opinion, comprehensive, conclusive testing has not yet been performed. There are just too many variables.

I still think the jury isout.
