Thread: Heavy Harvesters, are they worth it?
I'm a novice architect whose thinking about making the switch over to using heavy harvesters, but before I go ahead and try to deal with the factory and spending my resources, I'd like to hear some of your opinions on them. First of all, how many slots do they take up? And how much more resources do the harvest, is it double the medium harvesters?
Thanks for you input!

Personally I think they are worth it.
They take up 1 lot, and are 75% more efficient than a medium harvester, that is their Max Kg/h is 7. 2160 credits for a maintenance of 24 hours, and 1800 units of energy for a 24 hour period.
However, they take about 27k resources. So its a hefty investment intially, but I imagine in the long run they end up paying for themselves.
The only reasons why you shouldn't upgrade is if you are low on money or low on resources IMO. Like stated above they take a lot of resources to make so if you can't afford to put 28k or so into each harv for yourself with no monetary return you probably shouldn'y make them. They do take more maintenance and power, but these really shouldn't be a problem if you got past the first stage.
A 80% spot pulls about 7k a day I think. A week is 49k. at 3c/unit you have 150k credits which is about the price for them on my server. So they paid for themselves in a week. Now they are free for the next however many months you use them.
Fusion Gen, DEFINATELY worth it.
Florals that you put one or two in different planet for those special advanced.
DEFINATELY worth it.
For other everyday things.... Not so much. Unless they make it smaller, be able to place it on hill and cost little less to redeed
I'd think that installation and house designers would need them though, with all those ore requirements.
You certainly want to upgrade if you have the money. Here's the reason:
Power needed to fuel a small harvestor: 600 per day
Power needed to fuel a medium harvestor: 1200 per day (Exactly2 times the small)
Power needed to fuel a heavy harvestor: 1800 per day (Exactly 3 times the small)
Credits needed to maintain a small harvestor: 720 cr/day
Credits needed to maintain a medium harvestor:1440 cr/day (Exactly2 times the small)
Credits needed to maintain a heavy harvestor:2160 cr/day (Exactly 3 times the small)
-But-
Harvest rate for a small harvestor: 2 kg/hr
Harvest rate for a medium harvestor:4 kg/hr (Exactly 2 times the small)
Harvest rate for a heavy harvestor:7 kg/hr (however, it's 3.5 times the small)
when you find a 80% resource spot, please tell me...
I'd say you are realistically gonna be stuck with 70s-40s density wise -.- last I remember my heavy was pulling in about 370/hr on 50% which isint bad...I belive my medium was about 100 under that
sil
That was a comparsion SOLELY on theextraction rate.
Naturally there is a point where that 7kg/hr makes little difference to that 4 kg/hr since the concentration is so low.
How to solve that problem? well, hell....go find a spot with higher concentration. If you want to stick to a 50% spot, you might as well personal harvestors.
But ....let's look at the math:
On a 50% deposit:
A personal harvestor will take in 1440 unit of resource
A medium harvestor will take in 2880 unit of resource
A heavy harvestor will take in 5040 units of resource.
=================================================
Assuming that you don't spend anything on energy (just to make calucations simple)
Personal Harvestor : 1440 unit / 720 cr = 0.5 cr per unit
Medium Harvestor : 2880 units/ 1440 cr = 0.5 cr per unit
Heavy Harvestor : 5040 units / 2160 cr = 0.42 cr per unit
=================================================
On a 80% deposit:
A personal harvestor will take in2304 unit of resource
A medium harvestor will take in4608 unit of resource
A heavy harvestor will take in8064 units of resource.
=================================================
Assuming that you don't spend anything on energy (just to make calucations simple)
Personal Harvestor : 1440 unit / 720 cr = 0.31 cr per unit
Medium Harvestor : 2880 units/ 1440 cr = 0.31 cr per unit
Heavy Harvestor : 5040 units / 2160 cr = 0.26 cr per unit
=================================================
Heavy Harvestor still gives you more bang for your money.
I find 70%+ spots all the time... just not for ore. Those are hard to find over 60% on Naboo, and I won't located my own harvestors off planet.
I just made the switch over to heavies, to reduce my reliance on the professional miners. I think it is well worth it.
