Thread: Some Customers

I just got back in game alittle while ago and have been working to rebuilding my resources and finishing out Master Arch. I mostly concern myself with Houses ( its what I like to make ) and I have a decent customer base built up along with my Bazaar sales, I do ok. I let other Archs make the Heavies and GA Halls and frunture. So with that said I Just moved to Ruby Lake (Gorath) and am in the process of setting my show room and vendors, when I get a tell of a person looking for a med House and could we meet, I give the person instructions to my house and we proceed to hammer out what the customer wants and when we get to the price we hit a snag, This person says he will only pay me 15k for a med house! I told him I do not sell them at that price my fee is 55k for the house and this guy gets nasty and starts to call me a greedy Arch just like all the other Archs. SO he says take the 15k and make the damn house or he will go else where and make sure he lets people know not to deal with me. Well I sent him on his way.

I pretty much can not understand how some people think, I am a crafter, I enjoy my profession and how I play the game is challanging and rewarding ! But some people think Crafters should give their stuff awayfor nothing or at a Loss.

This is not the first time I have run into people who ask for discounts or special prices just for them. when I refuse They get mad and leave, why is that do you think ?

My prices are a flat rate for the project, I do not make special deals or give discounts to special people my prices are the same for everybody regardless. My Prices are as follows->

Small Naboo house ( stlye 2 ) Small round one -$5995.00 ( I sell these on the Bazaar sometimes, they also prove popular with new cities starting out)

Small Houses ( All Others) Are -$6800.00

Med Houses $55,000.00

Large Houses ( I have not sat down and worked out the prices for these as I am just now able to make them)

Looking at my prices I do not think I am out of line with the market, I kinda fall in the middle and specilize in what I like to do . Sometimes I just do not get it, does anybody else have these proplems or am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks

They're probably under the assumption that the customer should always be right and that you should drop your prices to benefit them.

No, there is nothing wrong with what you charge, or with anything you did. Some players are going to be problems. If you want 69 pages of examples, go to the smuggler boards and read the chuckles for the smuggler thread, it's stickied at the top. Some of those stories are extemely amusing, but many are just sad. It's too bad some people are so pathetic that they get offensive if you try to actually sell things for what they're worth.

Your medium house price sounds good to me (I charge 60k) and your small house price may even be a bit low (but maybe that's the going rate on Gorath). But there are always customers who think they own the world and try to have it their way. Most of the time they have supposedly seen a vendor with a house for a specific low price and they want you to match it. When I then advice them to go back to that location to get it there, the item in question is suddenly sold out.

In short, don't worry about your business. Just keep your vendors stocked and you'll be fine. You don't want customers like this anyway.

15k for smalls and 75k for mediums on Radiant lol... tell Mr. Cheapo to grind Arch and make the house himself if he thinks you are overpriced. Interestingly, there is a similar thread on the Chef forum rightnow as well

Yes, I have a 12 point chef and a 12 point Arch - seperate toons - so I watch both boards.

Don't sweat this guy.

There are griefers at every turn. If it isn't some dark jedi killing pc's just because they can, it's someone camping on the Lord Nyax spawn.

The guy was being a jerk. We have a hard enough time trying to be fair (which sometimes seems like we don't make what we should for our efforts) without having to deal with that kind of stuff.

It's a two way street. You can put his name out to the other crafters and get him black-balled if he keeps this kind of behaviour up. That's assuming you have that kind of contact with the other crafters.

You are just fine as far as I can tell on what you did. Your prices are fair.

I've met a few customers like this. I'm tempted to quote them an unreasonably high price then come down to where I want to be anyhow. "But for you, I'll bring it down to whatever" If they don't complain give them a surprise, but this all seems rude to me.

Aside: Arba,
Well, I'll have to move my prices for houses up a bit. I don't sell many anyhow in a vendor named (Harvs by Kamehnu)

If you seek the truth, you will find it.

If you let someone tell you the truth, you will never know it.

You have to just laugh at the customers like this and let it go. I don't know of any character with a crafting profession that hasn't run into this at least once. There will always be some customer who is looking for some item at a ridiculously low price and half the time they will get it. On Chilly a while back a guy was looking for factories for 15k (I tend to price around the going rate at 30k). Everyone in the trade forum told him he was nuts, but he ended up getting them for that priced. Who knows, maybe the guy trying to buya house from you found it at the price he was looking for (though I doubt it). Either way, you didn't lose money selling him the house for a price you couldn't afford to let it go for.

People like that guy are why it can be nice to have a returning customer base that appreciates your products and your prices.

Once in a while it helps to explain how much material goes into the object. A lot of people just don't realize how many resources our stuff takes and if you explain it to them they can see how your price is quite reasonable. They might have seen someone selling for 15k once and therefore assumed that your price which is 3-4 times as high must just be unfair. Or maybe they're confusing the price of a small and a medium. They could be trying to haggle / con you into a lower price by quoting a completely bogus lowball price. Or they are just a jerk. /shrug

Heh, this isn't a customer per se, but I was in Coronet one day and this guy comes up begging for some money, saying he was a newbie. I looked at him. His tag says 'Master Doctor', he's wearing high level tailor clothing and jewelry. I told him, if you're trying to pretend to be a newbie to get money, you might want switch your tag so you don't show that you've mastered an expensive, elite crafting profession and wear clothes more suitable for a newbie. You're a master doctor, do you think you look like a newbie? The guy laughed and we went our separate ways.
