Thread: Your Profession- The Architect
If you don't care about being stiffed on your profession, Why should the devs care?
Seriously think about this, they have not done one thing to our profession that is specifically related to us.
Sure they fixed factories and crafting...but that applies to all crafter professions. They still have not fixed the numbers, they still have not worked out the decay issue, some furniture looks exactly the same, we can't color anything, the deeds look like triscuts, etc. etc. etc.
The list is endless...
If you guys just want to roll over on your stomachs and say "oh, the macro will fix it" or "we can wait another month". Fine. Don't keep posting about how many crit fails you had or how "everyone" is lowballing you.
I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but is does apply to a majority of you. The only way we can change this is to demand a change.

Well maybe if we had an active correspondant we'd get further... All other professions have already stated their main issue in the Dev forum and have recieved feedback from their correspondant, but not us =(
PMing Holo for a correspondant would be a good idea.
Fact is, Maybe 20-30 Architects per server will be able to use that skill.. None will make money from it.
It's still a shame that none of the architects care enough about their profession to do anything about it.
At least in the smuggler forum they stick together...
I care very much about my profesion, and my profits, it is your profits that I dont care about. This is called business. Do you think Sears CEO stays awake at night worrying that the people at Target are not getting enough profits?

p.s. Hey, did anyone notice I didnt mention Wal mart? .......... oops
I'm in
master architect from coronet, heh.
and yeah lets keep bumping this to the top, I'm very much in agreement. oh, and I know a good deal of architects that I can bring in as well.
No... he doesnt care if they are not making money.
On the other hand, he has to put food on the table in real life... andI hardly need to remind you that this is aGAME (and suposedly a social one at that).
I agree that you should not participate in price fixing, but i think the issue that architects have is that some price their products in a very anti-social way. They are only thinking of their short term interests, but they are screwing up the long term economy for every other player. I think (though I could be wrong) that it's the selfish attitude people don't like.
Itmight have been interesting if banking had been included in the game. Highly profitable businesses would have had access to much greater borowing at lower rates, and could have used the money to dominate the market..... on second thoughts maybe that just a little too realistic to be fun ![]()
You forgot Wal-mart (sortof), but you managed to sneak in PvP economics ![]()
I dont know about them, but I am ONLY thinking in long term terms.
I will only be able to stay in business if people know that I sell for less as the demand drops further. it is not an easy task without advertizing on the world boards and in here. Something I dont do.
You dont think prices will go up as demand drops do you? Quite the opposite.
Jigrah , yes we need to do something like this. We need some way to organize all of the lazy architects though. None of them seem to care that they have to do an insurrmountable amount of work for pittens, and on top of it all we are under the constant hammer of crit fails.
Archangel , yes we need a correspondant that will be dedicated to dealing with getting the cold shoulder all the time. I sure as hell didn't want to be in his shoes. If he would just come back we could at least try to form a group to help him out, so he doesn't feel like he has to do it all himself.
- We need to form a group as architects, stop posting about all the nitty-gritty things that happen to us and constantly pose the problems that we have always had.
- Everyone in this forum bumps a message off the front page in a matter of minutes, we need to stick with the issues one at a time, not several at once. We will never get their attention at the pace we are going now.
I've seen you guys post before and i know you guys are as serious about this as i am. I don't fail often , but i'm sick and tired of having a profession that is still broken.
Dayln,
No.. i did economics too... and obviously in the real world a drop in demand will tend to lead to lower prices.
There are of course plenty of instances where this wont hold... such as ones where the price would have to drop to below cost... in which case the product simply wont be produced, or where a price drop causes a company to simply move to a different product because it sells for more (hmmm.... raw materials vs low-price structures
)
However, the basic laws of supply and demand dont apply that clearly in a game. While I think that prices MAY move to a degree, I also believe that the average bank balance of many characters is going through the roof... making the money thet pay less important to them. In effect you have money reducing in value.. and at the moment I happen to think its reducing in value alot faster than the structure market is shrinking.
When you consider that a high level combat type can earn 100's of K's of creds in a realtively short time, and the very highest priced structures are only a couple hundred K, I think its clear that money quickly becomes relativey meaningless.
I suspect this is the reason that I dont have any more problem moving structures than you do, and that you aren't being put out of business by those that price even lower.
I thougt it was your customer relations that made you popular, not your prices. I do hope your customers aren't just using you ![]()
To be honest, I'm not trying to look that far ahead. I don't think we know enough (heck anything) about the way that SOE will change the game, and therefor I'm not going to try to build a character around it. I enjoy Architecture... but I won't be worrying if demand drops some. I could use the time to do other things in the game.
We should all thank SOE for a system where anyone that isnt happy can fairly painlessly change profession.
One of the smartest moves I have ever seen in a MMORPG.
