Thread: A new idea...

So I have been reading these and other boards related to jedi for some time now. Most legitimate posts think that unlocking FS slot will be the result of a series of quests... well I would like to take this a step further.
I remember reading somewhere not too long ago something similar to this,
"Jedi have to deal with, and be able to interact with many different factions throughout their career..."
Has anyone thought that maybe unlocking the FS slot has something to do with all of these so called "useless" factions? NOT Imp, Rebal, or Hutt! Those are main factions, and the devs have stated for a fact that those are not a factor in becoming FS.
For instance, maybe in the game certain factions are flagged. Once you reach a required faction number in a required number of factions, you unlock the slot. It is my idea that some factions require a postivie number, and some require a positive.
I'll use Tatooine for example. Tuskens, Desert Deamons, Valarians are factions that are expected and supposed to be low. However Townsperson, Alkhara, Jawa are supposed to be high.
Think about the movies, and how many differnt species the jedi have to deal with on a regular basis. If they were KOS to every faction, they would never be Keepers of the Peace, as they r supposed to be.
By the devs making opening the slot based on these minor factions, in order to unlock it, everyones path would be different, noone could say exactly how they did it ( since we do not have static spawns, for the most part), and it would require that someone travel the galaxy and see and do all that they could.
So in my travels, when I see a new faction on my list, I use the motto "What would jedi do?". Would a jedi kill jawas? would a jedi protect the innocent? would a jedi attack those who he felt were endangering the well being of others? Would a jedi conspire with Thugs?
Now some of you will say, well thats all fine and good for combat types... but what about non combat types? Well here ask yourself, "what are jedi?" they are investagors, hunters, humanatiarians, artisans, explorers. As I see it, a jedi is EVERY starting profession that we have in the game except for 1... entertainer. Now... we all have 250 skill points to spend in any way we wish, and those can be traded back at any time. It is my feeling that the devs would not want someone who has never explored, or hunted to become FS. So even if someone is an entertainer, medic, or artisan they still have points to spend elsewhere. We are being encouraged to explore ALL of the professions. If we were not, they would have set up this game like Everquest (Pick your class at character creation and live with it for the rest of your days. )Now since I am discussing Everquest, anyone who played that game and did anything with the Velious content will remember that there were 3 main factions, building those to max allowed you to gain armor specific to that faction. It makes sense to me that they would have made this faction system much larger, too make it take a long time to acheieve the required positive or negative in a certain number of the flagged factions. Think about it... why are we able to see specifc values for EVERY faction that we come in contact with? Why not just Imp and Rebal? Because these other factions have some importace!
Post me your thoughts on the matter. My goal is that we can start compiling a list of factions that are on the side of good and bad. Once I get some responses I will post the factions that I am working on... either positive of negative.
Until then, May the Force be with you.

"It is my feeling that the devs would not want someone who has never explored, or hunted to become FS."

Spoken like a true brute.

I don't think your theory holds water. First of all, many fights with faction enemies are unavoidable. I've had enemies from factions I've never seen before attack me for no reason. I'm forced to defend myself and end up gaining or losing points justbecause I chose not to die. With this in mind, it is difficult to engineer a specific faction standing withthe so-called mini-factions.

Second, I disagreewith yourview of the non-combat classes. If the devs shared your opinion, entertainers, artisans, medics would not be such an important part of the game. Fighters would be able to make their own weapons or heal their own wounds wherever they pleased. Instead, they rely on artisans for weapons and medics and enertainers for healing. If anything, the non-combat classes are the backbone of the game. It is senseless to deprive them of the chance to become force sensitive.

Third, the class of your character is not important because that character does not become force sensitive. The FS slot allows you to create an entirely new character. Therefore, your idea of entertainers not being fit to become Jedi is useless. The entertainer character would not become a Jedi anyway; the force sensitive character would.

Fourth, once the FS slot is open, the devs have said that you can follow any of the normal profession trees if you wish to. So, by this reasoning, there could be entertainer Jedis anyway (which makes my third point extraneous).

I know this isn't the type of response that you were looking for, but so be it.

Must say that I completly agree with your saying the artisans, entertainers, and medics are the backbone of the game. And if you read above you will see that I think we should all explore every starting class. Myself, I have completed Enginneering 4 and in the Novice Droid Eng tree now. I have Survey 4, Dom Arts 1. I make and sell on a regular basis personal mineral, chemical, and wind extracters. I craft and set off fireworks almost every night in my player city on Tatooine. I Sample, run harvestors, and craft whatever I can, when I can.

I am also a Novice Medic. I am up to First Aid 3... mainly I use it for self healing, but it always comes in handy when I am healthy and others are not.

I will say that as of yet I have not experemented with the Entertainer field... simply because as a musician in real life I have had enough of performing.

I am a pistol specialist, now working though the pistoller tree. Rifle Spec, Ranged support Spec.

Master Scout

That is4 of the 6 starting professions. So in no way am I saying that only combat types can become jedi. What I am saying is why do we see each other as only 1 thing? We have more than enough skill points to do anything we want.

If a faction is KOS to you from the start, then there is no reason to build it. This would be a flagged faction that I would think would have to be on the negative side.

As for the second char slot. I am well aware of how the FS slot works... I have read the FAQ. The point is that we show our actions, and our conduct though the main character. Our reward is the FS character.

What would Jedi Do?

Ask yourself that, play ALL of the game... I think the answer will be clear soon enough.

LoL.

You seem to think that I am saying "you need to run around and kill everything that walks on 2 legs. "

On the contrary, I am saying the exact opposite. Artisans must survey. Surveying requires traveling out into areas between cities. This is often dangerous. At times they are required to kill because it is either kill or be killed. At the same time they are enocouraged to explore to find better resources to make a better product.

Any character can do, or be anything. If we limit ourselves to just 1 things, then we get a very narrow view of this galaxy. I guarantee that at some point down the line, that person who is mastering droid engineer now, will want to go out and pick up a pistol to hunt. It might be a year from now, it might be a week from now. But I seriously doubt that with the freedom we r given as far as profession, anyone would only choose 1 master profession and never experiment with anything else the entire time this game is around. Even if they don't master any other profession ever, the person who after 3 years playing this gamethat has never fired a weapon, has really missed alot. Just as the person who after that amount of time has never crafted a single item has missied out on alot. The reason there were so many "Alts" in Everquest was just because of that... we were only allowed 1 profession for our entire time as that character.

On the contrary... it is exactly what I was looking for. You just made it alot easier for me to explain myself.

I'm a rifleman, And sure the T21 is pretty cool, but now that everyone carries one, I find it kind of lame, but I love the Tusken rifle look, which got me thinking, you kno the way BEs can apply any stats to any creature skin (for the most part) I think it would be great if this could be applied to weapons, and armor for that matter, once someone hits master, they should be allowed to create a "skin" in this way regulating the looks of the rifles, Ryll gemstones would still be needed for T21s to make the skin, but the stats would be a whole nother story, in this way i can get my Tusken Rifle with Heavy AP and all the trimmings of a T21 in a Tusken Rifle package, but before the dev team answers this request, I would hope they fix the rest of the *edit*-ing game, like squad leaders(its almost as if they just wanted to give us the option of throwing our points away), combat system, PvE, PvP, vehicles(stop adding more broke things), mounts, rangers, pre-nerf pistols, pistoleer, bounty hunter, tka, rifleman, pikeman, droid engy, image designer, combat medic, chef(make it useful for christ sake), grouping(encourage us)...

I know there is alot i missed, encase you want to find out more, just play it yourself, The game is good, The game could be alot better...

Has anyone in the crafting profession given thought to how a CL for crafters could work in the game?By CL I mean crafting Level or maybe not a Level but a grade or a ranking system. I was trying to think of a way to motivate people in the crafting profession to srtive for higher goals which we really have nothing to shoot for except for 12pt and BER13 mines if your an architect. Id like to hear some suggestions on a rank or grade or level system for crafters.

A ranking system would be the best to the worst crafters in numerical order from the number one architect to the worst. and might be based on a few different factors.

- amount of items crafted and in use by players on the server

- number of crafted items sold

- total amount of sales in credits

- highqualty eperimented items made during construction

- 90% or better items

-80% or better itmes

- 70% or better and so on

- time spent in crafting profession, experience does count for a lot

You could apply these ideas to a grade system also, like A, or A+ to D-

I hink it would be a noble goal for a crafter to achieve a grade of A+ or a ranking in the top 5 best crafters on the server, or a Craftin level of 80 or what ever. If crafters had another goal to strive for it might add a new exciting dimension to crafting.

Drwabacks might be competiton lowering prices to a point were you cant make money as a crafter.

Just an idea

i dont like that idea.. life and games are filled with compeetes anyways.. I dont craft much and ifI got ino a system like thatI would drop that business.

I dont do houses, factories or other structures..I do some furnitures. thenI do the decoratings. that is what is gamefun for me. But if i get a D rank or somethingI wont get a chance to decorate AND if i do.. my prices would get dumped since im nota A ranked archi..

bad idea.. i hate it. i dont like competitions like this.

The "empire" always wins, then self-destructs.
