It's not just you. Similar things happen to me when Tailoring too.

This just happened tonight and I wanted to capture it. It might help prospective new Architects choose a profession.

========================

JoeGamer: Hey, I understand that you've got well-stocked vendor.
Zalle: Thanks - what were you interested in?
JoeGamer: I want a Tat City Hall - is there one there?
Zalle: The market for those is *extremely* limited so I don't stock them. I can make one though.
JoeGamer: How much?
Zalle: XXX credits, half up front
JoeGamer: Nevermind - I have a friend that will do it for 80% of XXX.
Zalle: great - good luck

15-20 minutes pass as I run errands, pick up supplies, etc.

JoeGamer: How about if I give you all the resources? What would you charge?
Zalle: Well, it doesn't really work like that. Some of the components take multiple factory runs, so getting just the exact resources for one really doesn't help.
JoeGamer: I can supply all of the components - my friend has them - he just dropped Arch yesterday.
Zalle: So you would bring 6 identical power core units, 6 identical structure storage, 20 walls, etc?
JoeGamer: Yes.
Zalle: Give me a minute to figure this out - I'll get back to you.
JoeGamer: I'd bring the stuff - all you'd have to do is push the buttons.
Zalle: If it were that easy then your friend would do it, wouldn't he?

2 minutes pass

Zalle: OK, if you bring all of the components and resources to the table for the final assembly, I'll charge you ZZZ credits to assemble it.
JoeGamer: OK

JoeGamer: Do you have 6 walls? I'd pay for them.
Zalle: It takes 20 walls. So you only have 14?
JoeGamer: I'd pay for them.
JoeGamer: No - I don't have any walls. But I'd bring the resources for them.
Zalle: Look - I make walls in a factory in large runs - you giving me the exact amount of resources for 20 doesn't work.
JoeGamer: Do you have walls? I'll buy them.
Zalle: Look - this is getting out of hand. You asked for a price and I gave you a quote. Then you said "I'll supply everything" and I gave you a quote on assembling it. Now you are coming back and essentially looking to buy the pieces one by one to make the hall. You have two quotes - pick one or the other or neither.

2-3 minutes pass

JoeGamer: How soon could you make it?
Zalle: I'm out running errands - I should be back at my showroom in about 15 minutes. I'll start crafting when I get the half up front and you'd be able to pick it up within 30 minutes of now.
JoeGamer: ok - I'll go to the bank now

5 minutes later the upfront money arrives

Zalle: I'm at my showroom and ready to craft. Please confirm: Tat City Hall - correct?
JoeGamer: Yes.

JoeGamer: Where should I meet you?
Zalle: I'll be at my showroom (I had sent the waypoint earlier).

JoeGamer: What starport on Naboo is that near?
Zalle: I'm just 1100M due south of the Theed starport. And your hall is all ready for pickup.

JoeGamer: Can you meet me in Coronet? That would save us both time and I can go out to Dant right away to place this. Since Theed is no-wait.

Zalle: Sure - I'll be there in a couple of minutes. (At this point I just wanted to get the deal finished. )

I ride into Theed.

JoeGamer: Oh - I'm in Kor Vella. I thought I was in Coronet.
Zalle: I haven't bought my ticket yet - be sure now - look on the planetary map and confirm where you are.
JoeGamer: I'm Kor Vella. I must be going nuts.

I arrive in Kor Vella, and there is a trade request up. So I pop the CH deed and a fountain (free bonus ) into the trade window. The second half of the payment appears - then disappears.

JoeGamer: The money is in the bank.
Zalle: Ok, lets go to the bank.
JoeGamer: The shuttle is here and I got to catch it - I'll tip you.
Zalle: fine - tip first. (I should note that with many of my customers I'm pretty loose about the payment arrangements and have even said "tip me later". However, with this guy ..... )

JoeGamer: u are too close - it won't tip from the bank.
Zalle: Yes it will - just type /tip zalle xxx/2 bank

The money shows up. The trade window shows up. I put the deed and fountain in the window and all is ok.

JoeGamer: Thanks a lot.
Zalle: Good luck

Oh this is all SO familiar! It's nice to see that at least I'm not the only one with completely ignorant children as customers. Having said that I've had a few VERY good customers that have been a pleasure to do buisess with.

On a side not to this.. I usually try striking up a breif conversation before giving a solid quote. The quote always reflects how polite they've been. Vitriolic arrogance just adds 15-20% to the price.

Heh its always a giggle to read customer tales. I guess any business has some stories.

Heres one I remember from a RL job. I worked in an office as a customer service clerk, when Customer walks through the doors and says 'hi, can you check my records for this and that as I need this doing'.

Me: Sure, whats your name, initial, and address?

Customer: Its Customer A. at 123 Ditzy Street, Dunceville.

Me: I can't locate anything for that name, did I spell it correctly?

Customer: (Looking abit impatient) C.u.s.t.o.m.e.r, first name Angry.

Me: Thanks, just let me double check this for you. Hmm still nothing, have you got any paperwork with you so I can check against a policy number?

Customer: Look it should be under Customer, A, 123 Ditzy Street.....blah blah. This is ridiculous. I've never had this problem before.

Me: I'm sorry about that, but the computer isn't showing anything for that name if you don't mind looking for some paperwork I'd be happy to check the policy.

Customer: (Glaring at me like I'm an idiot) ......ok one sec, (rummages through pockets) will this help.

At this point Customer hands me a sheet that bears the name of another company.

Me: Hmm well this policy is for another company, do you have anything from here?

Customer looks around and notices our company logo plastered everywhere.

Customer: oh, I'm in the wrong place..........

and makes a quick exit.

Me: /sigh.
