Thread: Why dont we have certs for harvesters?

Generally speaking I have seen this complaint posted in other things along with other messages. so i have to ask in a very specific and hopefully well defined thread.

Basically as a Master Architect, I am not allowed to grab a T21 and start blasting the daylights out a creature, hell even as a Master Weapon smith, SOE is telling me I can make em, but using them I would damage them because they are just too complex for me to understand how they work.

The logic being that they don’t want everyone running around with T21 blasting the daylights out of everything.

I can appreciate that.

But what about harvesters, using the theory, a simple Mud Puppy (nick name for soldiers) should be able to even read the manual on operating a harvester.

The argument that how can a bounty hunter, scout are too simple minded to operate a survey tool (no offense) is valid, but they can drop a harvester have all the luxury’s and money that a miner can make.

Frankly to me this is the NEW TOP 1 priority for Architects, and artisans.

I am not saying the right answer is to prohibit the use of them, but certifications or some kind of balancing is needed.

Simply put, if I am too stupid to use a t21 as a master weapon smith, you have to be too stupid to use a harvester unless your have surveying skills.

because the dev team ignored alot of beta crafters when the took out the mining profession

If this were implemented now then Lot sharing/loaning/hiring would become impossible. It would put an entirely different slant on the crafting professions, if instead of renting or sharing the lots of your 5friends and having 20+ harvestors that you support, you would have to be an architect(and hence certed for harvestors)and you could only have as many harvestors as your own lots could support because your non-architect friends are too dumb to plonk down a harv and give you admin, then it would massively reduce the quantity of mined resources in the game.

It would mean that all Crafters would be forced into competing to buy the available resources from Architects, it would drive up resource prices and hence the prices of all crafted items.

On the flip side it would put all architects on an even footing, being in a PA wouldn't help when you couldn't share lots, and it would make Architects the Kings of the Resource trade and every other crafting profession that required a fair amount of resources (weaponsmiths/armoursmiths) would have to buy from us at our prices.

It would make Architects into Miners, but hey, we already are the Miner profession, we can just make pretty eyecandy too

well, what was asked for in beta was something along the lines of this...

armorers, weaponsmiths, architechs would get mineral harvesters.
Tailors would get chemical crafters
chefs/medics would get flora

in beta they constantly said they want interdependancy but when they took out the miner class they didnt do anything to better this situation.

Wow...what an outstanding point. It could be something like everyone can use a personal, only artisans can use a medium, and only elite artisan professions get the heavy certification. It just makes too much sense.

I agree. Resources would be a lot more realistically priced if they limited who could use them. I owuld give up my harvester rights in oreder to make it more balanced.

I would think it would be easier to learn a gun than a large complicated piece of equipment like a factory.

What we need it to have a nice global cert system installed...

This should affect EVERYTHING, and have the following effects.

Non-Certified = 50% effectiveness
Certified = 100% effectiveness
Ability to craft it = +25% effectiveness

This should apply not only to harvesters, but weapons, and anything else that would need certification. Including medicines, camp kits, instruments, etc.

Naturally, if you are able to craft something, you would get more insight into how it works, and even know how to tweak it if you are fully certified in using it. Plain and simple, people should be able to use the objects they make... maybe not to full effectivness, but better than someone who doesn't know how to make it.

As for the cert levels of harvesters, I think they should be placed in the survey chain, as it is, afterall a resource gathering method, tho I do think that the Flora/water harvester certifications should be duplicated in the medic Pharmacology chain, and possibly the scout's Survival chain. But such details can easily be worked out.

I would expect the small harvesers to be at Survey II, with two possiblities for the rest.

1. Medium at Survey III, and Heavy at Survey IV
2. Medium at Survey IV, and Heavy at Master Artisan

I'd kinda favor the #2 approach, as it makes Master Artisan a decent goal... but I could understand it being done either way.

Anyhow, tell me what ya think.

Ugh. This isn't such a good idea guys. For one, you as Architects need lots of resources. If you reduce who can use harvesters, you reduce the overall amount of resources in the game.

Secondly, you are killing a large portion of your customers. Since everyone can use harvesters, that means that there is potential to get a sale from EVERYONE in the game. Certs will kill that real quick.

I question the point of limiting harvesters.

I don't understand why you would want to limit the availability of harvesters for use by everyone either. I'm not an Architect, but I am a Master Artisan. What purpose would restricting harvester use serve other than to give those "certified" to use them bragging rights?

Cut the number of people that can use harvesters and you cut the number of harvesters in use. Fewer resources will be available. Prices for those resources will go up for those who don't have the time to run their own harvesters. Architects will sell fewer harvesters, cutting their sales.

What is the positive outcome of this change?

well I dont want everyone to be without harvesters, but efficiency of a harvester has to be based on some skills.

i just think that if i have to spend 10 points on surveying, it should be worth something, and to have Joe blow park a harvester beside me and vacuume up resources at the same % as someone who is working that skill makes no sense.

sure they can place a harvester, but since I am trained in using them, I should get bonus's same way a marksman can use some weapons better because they have a Cert.

example, if a novice hunter drops a personal harvester on a 96% resource, and I have mine beside his, dont you think I should get some perk from it? Be it, less fee's, better resources quality, better extraction rates, less power consumption, what ever.

At least, I think without surveying, the concentration of an area should alot less to someone who doesnt have the skill.

Umm actully probably not a bad idea, anyone could use a personal harvester it after all a personal harvester. I'd say most crafting classes should probably be able to operate mediums appropriate to their class. I know this is going to cause a pile of screams but I'd say you'd have to be an architect to use a heavy.

My point being currently there is no one and I mean no one who other than for purposes ofgrinding is likely to burn through without breaking a sweat 1-200k in a day an architect can drop the hammer on 300k+ of materials in under 5 minutes. Sure other classes are using heavy's and buying the minerals frompeople who areusing heavies, but they aren'tusing it. They are stockpiling it in great carload lots. After its been on the server for a week who cares if it doesn't show up for the next 4-5 months at this point. I mean after you have 2 100k blocks of your rare resource that you use 40 at a time do you think you care? Well maybe if it shows up in a month or two andits a better quality you stockpile another 2-300k of it to hold you over, or perhaps replace you couple of hundred k of mineral if the next one comes out a few points higher on the stat you need. At that point resource shifts really become pointless other than as an irritation.

I would like to see a Certification for placing any harvester larger than a personal (small) harvester. That would still allow folks who aren't Artisian/Miners to collect resources, but actually make being a Artisian worth something. I hate it when you spend all day/night locating the prime spot, only to have some TKA/whatever come up and plop down a couple mediums or heavies with a grin, and say "thanks for showing me the spot"...grrr

I thinkyou shouldneed Survey4 to qualify to use a medium, and at least one other Artisian skill tree to level 4 to qualify to place a heavy harvestor. I don't see them letting Artisians use any weapon they like w/o certifications, it should be the same way for our tool of choice.

I'm definatly for certification of medium and large harvesters, I am hoping that the miner profession will be readded and that certifications will go hand in hand with them.

Yes as an architect I need lots of materials but with resource suppliers selling resources for 2c per unit it is difficult to justify what I feel to be a reasonable price for my goods (5c pu). I gather 90% of my own materials and I search for the good ones (hard to find since shadowfire has yet to see a resource shift) and I want to price my wares with time spent and quality in mind. But the constant spamming of resource prices from folks that have no idea the value of their resources and couldn't care less if they sell quality wares diminishes the value of my final product.

I crit failed on a factory today (part of the game that I accept)so I'm eating the cost of 12k+ resources that I can't pass on to the consumer because there is no give in the market.
