Thread: DEATHSTICKS!
I'm not a smuggler but carryin around some deathsticks I got from my friendly neighbourhood fence would be golden.
[please correct me if deathsticks are not a drug but they are surely pleasurable and illegal right?]

if I remember my EU correctly, cigarettes/cigars are referred to as "Tabacc" and "Death Sticks" are actually a form of highly illegal drug. The Death Stick itself was like a needle that injected the drug directly into the user's blood stream. Kessel was producing tons of them due to the web residue left from spiders living in the kessel mines that made a very potent drug.
However, many sources contradict the other so its highly likely that as in the "real world" the term "Death Stick" referrs to several items.
I can't see that the guy in Episode II was trying to sell a box of ciggies to Obi Wan in the Cantina though. Doesn't have quite the same "re think your life" appeal as attempting to sell him drugs ![]()

Well, it's all relative based on the social/cultural standards; alcohol is prohibited by law and religion both now and throughout history, there's no reason that smoking, arguably more/just as dangerous to your health than moderate consumption of alcohol, is just such a taboo in the SW universe.
....Yehhhs....

Er.. it's widely believed that deathsticks are just Mr. Lucas' attempt at a contemporary comment on cigarettes/cigars.
That maybe so, but it makes them Star Wars canon. That's two drugs we've had named in the films: Spice, and Death Sticks.
For the same reason we can't ignore the Galactic Civil Warjust because it represents Lucas' comment on the American war of Independence.

Oh, certainly; I was replying specifically to, "please correct me if deathsticks are not a drug but they are surely pleasurable and illegal right?"

Actually, I think what you are talking about is GlitterStim. I haven't read either the Han Solo Trilogy or the Jedi Academy Trilogy in awhile to remember, and I haven't bothered to look it up, but I think you are referring to Glitterstim.
Again, I could be wrong, but you are right about Tabacc, and Deathsticks being more then just a ciggie.

They are a drug, but not the be all and end all one. If anything, instead of deathsticks, they should add several spices that are mentioned in the EU, like glitterstim or ryll.

You're right, it is glitterstim that's mined from kessel.
