Frankly I think it would be a good idea if they stopped handing out priviledges right here and now. They are dooming the new system from the start if they are granting advantages to veteran players that new players can never hope to gain. I have no idea what it will be for us Smugglers, so I will refer to the jedi since they are crying loudest (for a change) and thus gained the most answers so far.
From what I hear, they will get a glowy special effects and some special robes. No idea if these will grant an edge in pvp - which would be frustrating to no end to all newcomers- but even if not, itwill act as a constant reminder to all new players that they can never hope to attain the status of the oldsters. SOE is practically breeding elite thinking here. It will be oldsters versus upstarts. Not a good idea to quit the whining if you consider all the fuzz being made about pearl quality right now.
As for the second character slot, this is icying on the cake. It wasn'tjustified till now, but at least we had the option to unlock if we were willing to do the grind. This option no longer remains unless you have at least 5 unlocks right now and are willing to grind non-stop till 15th of November. Like the op poster said - why would I get halve the service for the same amount of money? If this was to be considered to be a reward, it would have to be tied to the duration of the subscription, not the hours of AFK grinding.
This said, I agree with Keck that everyone who has finished one template should get a second character slot to start again. One could argue whether this should be limited to 2 slots, but like the op said, 2 are the absolute minimum to allow re-rolling without losing everything and starting from scratch.
maybe as a trade in for ADK's,each account can trade in one ADK to be awarded a free extra character slot.
Yes, I know that this has flaws in it, but itwould let ADK's keep a high value so that those people who bought10 of them (honestly, I don't care about these people, but trying to be fair) can re-sell the ADK's they purchased back to the people who sold them in the first place. if it is limited to 1 per account, then no one could abuse it and get 10 extra characters. They'd either have to sell the ADK's to the people who originally sold them, or just let them sit and waste space.
I currently have 2 character slots. I EXPECT to have 2 character slots after this upgrade.
In fact, with the new character system, where we are now locked into a single path, I think i need to DEMAND a second slot, (and a 3rd, and a 4th) to make the game playable. To allow us to explore all the game has to offer.
And they will keep it no matter what. They can respec their jedi to whatever comes to their mind, the sencond slot remains. It´s highly unlikely that the mortals among us will receive a second slot now that the devs had this brilliant idea about converting ADKs into profession restarter kits.
Seriously, is it beyond the devs to comprehend that they are actually offering twice the service to those players for the same price?
