Were you here pre-CU? If we have to explain, you'll never understand anyway...

Yes, I've been playing for two years now.
The movie showed the character posing in front of game content that isn't going away. With a song like "this used to be my playground" playing in the background, you'd think all of that content was going away.
And those picture were not taken pre cu. There's a new speeder from the Trials of Obi Wan in there.

Well for one, your guild or hunt groups will be nothing more then 99pct Jedi. Nothing wrong with that mind ya, they were better off just making it KOTOR online and forget all the professions altogether, lolNice video, btw.
No see, here's where you're wrong. Even if 99 percent of the players in game went Jedi, which they won't, none of my hunt groups would even be 50% Jedi. Or 20%. Or 5% I don't like Jedi. I wouldn't group with a full group of them if my life depended on it.
Besides which, you're way off base assuming everyone will go Jedi. The ONLY reason there were so many Jedi in the game is because it was an alpha class. People HAD to go Jedi to compete in pvp. Now, they're just another class. Anyone that DOES choose jedi, that doesn't truly want Jedi for the sake of Jedi, will drop their lightsaber for a gun, when they pick it up and realize, it's no more powerful, and in a lot of ways, less powerful, than a regular profession.

My comment isn't total about what was in the video. In the beginning this game was 100x what it is now, and still even after the first CU it was still an RPG. If you really like the new style so much why were you ever playing this type of game? You should have been playing something like Planet Side. The title of the video pretty much says it all, SWG - RIP. I wish they'd just do what they've done with EQ and make two games out of it one PC, the other console...
(and I watched this at work, lol, so I couldn't hear the music)

I hope your right, but think of all the 8 - 12year olds (will be the majority of the game), I have a strongfeeling that I know what they'll pick.

The only thing they've changed, is the combat.
Why does everyone assume an RPG has to have turn based, or pseudo-turn-based combat? what part of ROLE
PLAYING GAME suggests that it has to be turn-based? Turn-based combat came from P&P rpgs, which had no choice but to use turn-based combat, because of the fact that they were done on pen and paper. Early text-based adventures were similar, because of the same limitations. If you want to continue fighting via roll of the dice, then go buy the WEG SWRPG. It's been over 30 years, we've evolved past the need for turn based combat. Give up the ghost.
And I remember the game in the beginning. It was fun, because EVERYONE was new, and there was no such thing as massive harvester arrays churning out resources, people with 600 million credits, 95% composite, BUFFS, and so forth. Everyone needed everyone for everything. you needed a scout, you needed a medic, you needed an entertainer. It wasn't fun because the game was fun, it was fun because you were experiencing something with other people, in a way that not even other MMO's had managed before. You were on Endor, as a 2222 marksman, fighting epic battles with your group of 20 against the deadly lantern birds, running in shear terror from the unstoppable Hanadaks, and seeking out the elusive (and nonexistant at the time) Gorax.
It was n00b-fun. I was thrilled when I had 50k credits. I got myself an awesome spray stick(which by pre-cu standards at the time the CU happened, was worthless junk). I made it to Master Marksman, and Master Scout, after MANY many hunts on endor.
Or at least, I made it to 4444 Marks and 4444 Scout... Because I needed AP to master them. And nobody seemed interested in learning. Over a week was spent trying to get people to learn things. Then, I just sort of stopped playing.
I missed the introduction of creature mounts, vehicles, player cities, and Jedi.
When I game back, Group hunts were in their death throes. Within a week, there were no more group hunts. It had apparently been Solo Groups for quite some time. Other things that were a problem... Uber Comp, Doc Buffs, AFKtainers. A massively inflated economy. The Hologrind.
Your 100X game lasted about a month. And even that is through rose-colored glasses. This game started out flawed, then quickly degenerated into a cesspool of rotting SUCK. And I paid for it for 2 years straight despite that.
This is the one possibly positive change I've seen for the game since the games inception. If it kills the game, then it's a mercy killing.

To go along with that, the only positive that kept me around was the space content, which is still in my opinion very well designed. There's no way you can be good at that portion by leaving your pc and AFK grinding. Real skilled players do well in space (maybe that's why space is so empty these days - doh!)
Space is also not turn based, but it is still an RPG.

Your right, on almost every account. I'd say the game lasted at that level a little longer, but not over 3-4 months. I think that's when everyone started there "holo-grind". As for the positive changes, I think the introduction of space (JTL) was the best one, if you count that, I guess that's more of an add on since not everyone bought it. And your probably right about the mercy killing. The only reason a lot of have stuck it out is for JTL or the hope of one day smuggling, and I think a lot of us (smugglers) will be pissed when they realize that SOEs idea of smuggling is to simple fence your goods...

Space is also about the only reason I stayed after the CU, but I have to disagree, space is more of a flight sim than an RPG.
But after mastering almost all of the squadrons and doing all of the extra missions I have to say it's harder and harder to stay for that alone. They really need to add some more space content, it was really disappointing that this last expansion didn't even have a space zone.
Okaaaay. I think a lot of you missed the line, "This is done with tounge firmly in cheek." I personaly like th NGE. I like that people will not be able to afk grind, I love the new fast combat and while i hate the new control interface that is there as default with a bit of key mapping and changing of settings you can get it back exactly the way it was.
The thing I like most though is that by stripping the profs down to 9 we stand a much better chance of the game being developed properly. 36 profs was waaaay to many. And a lot were just copies of each other.
I have a few reservations with the NGE, not sure how high end combat is going to work with large groups of mobs and I don't liek that we are now resticted to one profesion for life. I think SOE will buckle and give us either the abbility to drop profesions with out a full re-roll or better yet a second slot.
Apart from that I'm fine with the NGE.
P.S. As I say the video was done to have a little fun. Every thing thats in it you can still do. It actualy covers my character, Talon Korsairre's, life in SWG right from Beta to the curent day. Its in cronilogical order which is why the ToOW stuff is at the end.
As it stands the scout and ranger prof. are gone, and I've not seen camps in anything craftable yet. I have't tried everything yet so they may still be in the game, but with the way certain classes were treated with this, I doubt it.
