Opeth. They are living gods of music. Progressive Deathmetal is their genre, amazing stuff. Pink Floyd meets heavy metal.

catch 22 is the bomb. but what about lucky boys confusion. their first cd is good all the way through. but dumb pop song is their biggest hit. the chorus goes " I'm gonna steal your girlfriend."

For years and years, I have been coming back to this band called Servotron. They are a bit of a gimmick band--their act is that they are maniacal robots and cyborgs from the future where humanity has already lost. In their songs they encourage humanity to make the conversion to cybernetics, or face the annihilation that the inefficient deserve. They also sing reactionary songs about robots in pop culture. 'Red Robot Refund' would be interest to this particular audience. (Though they also pick on the works of Asimov, The Forbidden Planet, and that classicly aweful TV series, Small Wonder, among many other things.)

The band themselves are composed of members of Man... Or Astroman? Which some may recognize as the guys who did the instrumental theme to Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. It's got surf-punk harmony and monotone anti-human rhetoric. Very fun to listen to.

Another bit of musical madness that I would highly reccomend is Tom Waits. An ugly, ghoulish man who spins raspy absurdist folklore into some really awesomely absurd awesomeness. Apart from perhaps Wesley Willis (whoI wouldn't actually reccomend to anyone), I'd say that Tom Waits is probably the best thing to listen to and sing along with while drunk.

Saw Servotron live at the Mercury Lounge billed with Delta 42... odd mix if you ask me. In any case, they put on a great show. Then again, any band that writes a song from the perspective of a female robot about vibrators has got to be an interesting show. Caught Man... or Astro Man? on their "Clone Project Alpha" tour- what an od premise. Tell the fans the band wont appear live but only via satellite at the door, then have the "via satellite" bit be pre recorded video of them introducing themselves as clones they've sent out for their tours so they can spend more time working on experiments in the lab. Reeeeely wierd show.

I keep comming back to Fugazi myself... but not many like the evolution they've taken as they've aged. Have yet to see them live, however. Now a days, the only group that's pulled me away from theLCD (here at work or home) has been Dresden Dolls... but that's simply because they are often coupled with some very weird bands.

I know Snow Patrol. Not my fav but i got an album of their's. I picked up A-F's (Anti-Flag) 2004 release "new kind of army." Now this was cool causeI thought they broke up. If you see this album check out the track"Thats Youth." Very good song. Other than that for the forgotten band -The Pixie's. For the underground "the Bad Brains." Beta Band is good too. (But their history)
