Yeah,in the old system, 1 char was fine for 2 reasons: 1 being it was a player based economy and it forced interaction. One could not fight and make their own items etc. It kept people from being self suficient. It was also acceptable because players could break down and regrind at any time they chose. I get bored with my profession? No worries just grind the next.
Jedi recieved their alt, so they could live a life without BH attacks and because permadeath was around.

All of these are changed; Loot is a big factor in the game now ( with loot slowly eclipsing crafted goods in terms of utility), We are locked in one char type now, and Jedi is a starting class, with Player bounties eliminated theres no reason for them to get two.

Essentially we are like Eq2 or wow, so why not just give us multiple alts (heck do the whole 4 for subscribers, 8 for station pass deal). I had 6 diff chars in UO, 4 chars in wow, 6 chars in AO, so why do I only get one in SWG?

It's obvious, they want you to pay $15 for a second one.

Maybe if all these people didnt have 10 odd accounts, they wouldnt think that we would do it

I'm pretty sure we'll be getting more than one. The issue at this point is the very complicated database and getting chars and items converted. It may take 2-3 more months before they do (if they do), but I'd be surprised if they dont. I just dont see'em expecting people to delete main chars to change template.

Of course they cant say anything at this point, because if they do and then turns out it cant or wont be done then the screams of 'LIARS, YOU PROMISED, etc, etc, etc'

Well, me was thinking like, wouldn't you rather have a dozen different people than one person with twelve accounts? Whats better for the game?

I'm sure they'd rather have more real people as the money is the same either way to them. So I guess initially they may not offer a second slot freely but I'm sure in time they will, after the Jedi have forgetten part of their getting weaker was the fact that they kept their second slot where as us normal people don't have a second slot. It's all about making Jedi think they are getting a better deal than they really are

First of all, I think this may be LA first step in making things right.

All these moaners wanted LA to come in, axe everyone and sally fking forth to victory, and this is obviously the first step along those lines. It is the first time that the old theory of the game, which was to do "player generated content" (which amounted to not being able to crap without needing someone else to wipe your ass), and now is actually going to be a "content for every profession" based game... which includes quest and storyline.

The only people who lose out are... all of us who only have 1 slot and 1 account... and those of us who are level 80.

See, the major flaw they are missing is this;

Most of us ARE level 80 or have a working template, thank you very much. And arent going to delete our characters or start all goddamn over again.

So the fact that they only allow 1 slot has to go; or we are going to miss out on alot ofthe "content" these guys have been working on. After all, the adventure is the journey not the destination, but us veteran players are already at the fking destination, and telling us "you now must delete your fking character in order to experience the game" is simply ludicrous.

Furthermore and probably foremost amongst my objection (and I suspect that of others), is that this upgrade is so focused on newbies... we find ourselves asking; "What the fk about endgame content?"

So either LA is so shortsighted they figure everyone who is in the game is going to stay no matter what, or they better be planning something to make the established players stick around.

I personally think we should be able to change profs after we've started. That's one of the game's aspects I really liked and respected. It was revolutionary, and added a lot of depth to the game.

On the topic of 1 character per server, unless you're a jedi... Well...

One of the initial pluses of this game was that it was supposed to be both intense and casual play friendly. But the "G" in SWG became "grinding."

SOE, while they're a business and have product units to move, needs to realize that one of the ways they can attract new players is to allow multiple characters on each server. Servers are communities and while we enjoy our primaries, some days we just need to do something else and not have to start from complete scratch on another server.

I think they'll eventually fold in our favor on this issue. I think the message is finally getting through that the Jedi Alpha Class and the associated grind was not the "Star Wars Experience" so many of us wanted.

Um... technically, you have eight characters. The problem comes when you can have only one character on a server. Those of us who like our servers don't want to have to switch over to another server just to have another character.

The way EQ2 does it is you have 8 (or 10) slots for characters, and these can be all on the same server or spread out among the servers as you see fit. That is how SWG should be. Let us have our 8 characters on one server if we want them, and let the old Jedi have a grandfathered 9th slot.

I started an online petition regarding the one-toon limit, after I started writing a post to the devs where I outlined reasons why they should make the decision to allow more than one toon per server. Check it out and sign if you'd like... clicky

Everyone needs to push this subject.

BELIEVE ME, your voice may well actually matter on this one.

Give this 'one character per server' thing some time. I was pretty peeved about it, but it doesn't fly, and I think SOE know that. Give it some time.

This is what I'm hoping for.

Unfortunately, many of the people posting on the NGE General Discussion forums are demanding reversals, threatening to sue, or asking the same question that has been answered 99 times before (ironically, Tiggs continues to answer them again and again).

Face it -- they're not going to change their mind and they are not going to have "pre-NGE" servers. So stop trying!

There's an old adage, "Pick your battles wisely." The 1-slot per server is one battle we can win, which is why I tried to post a few constructive messages on the Gen'l Discussion forum that focus around the 1-char-per-slot issue. In more than a few cases I was called some choice words.

Maybe I'll stick here with you guys. I feel safer here. I guess I belong among my own.

ok so only one character sucks... no dabling at all sucks..... but i can live with both those with two conditions

1. That there is some room for variation within each prof. for example if i am a level 45 smuggler, and you are a level 45 smuggler are we carbon copies of each other or could i focus on one area of the skillset and you on another. If there isnt at least this little room for me to put my own stamp on the character then the game may have become to shallow for me to play.

2. That you dont have to delete to change your skillset... i mean come on how tough could it be to have some npc you can go to that sends you down to level 0 and lets you pick a new profession. They worked it out for pilots didnt they. I'm not looking to just surrender skillpoints here, i'd bewilling to drop an entire profession and work my way up a new one but this is for me primarily a ROLEPLAYING game and my characters name and history, badges and accomplishments mean something to me and i'd be royally pissed if i had to give them up. ((not that i would i'm a smuggler till i die! although if we dont get some damn decent smuggling content who knows.. i can pretend to be a smuggler regardless of profession if we are still where we are at now))

So thats it... there are lots of things i'd have on my wish list for this ordeal but those are the two that matter most to me, and of course the ability to smuggle goes without saying
