Okay, now that that's out of the way, The explanation of how the holstering system CAN work without much difficulty in coding for the devs. Basically, each of these locations is a mounting point, the same way when you equip a weapon, it mounts to your hand, or two hands in the case of long weapons. The weapons simply mount to any one of these points, based on the point's ability to accept that weapon. In order for the weapn to mount to that point, the accompanying holster must be bound to the gun. This could be accomplished by either a menu type system (like the weaponrepair kit menu), or making the holster a container like the fishing pole. The holster will function in a similar fashion to Composite helmets, changing shape to fit the specific weapons. Since heads are more variable than weapons, it should be less difficult to manage that.
Drawing a weapon. For RP purposes, a /draw command should be in place to allow an individual to draw their weapon and hold it in a menacing manner. For strategic purposes, weapons can no longer be switched between willy-nilly. The only weapons you may switch between are those you have holstered. If you can squeeze 5 different weapons onto your body, good for you. The exception will be Commandos and Pikeman weapons, whose mounting options are limited. You can put the holsters into your hotkeys, the one you select while out of combat will be the one you draw on your first attack. Switching between weapons will be basically the same, you click the hotkey for the holster of your choice, you will holster your current weapon and draw the new selection. Simple arm animations will handle the "draw" and "holstering" processes, the hand moves to the holster selected, and the gun transfers from the holster mounting point, to the hand point.
And that should be just about all.

As with every single holster petition that's ever exsisted...
/sign
Or at least give us belts that look like these and actually fit our characters.
Oh, and for knives, make the shoulder strap combat knife holster... kinda like what Leon Kennedy wears in Resident Evil 4.
I doubt we'll see anything like this for a looooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg while
I hope we do get to see it eventually.

Very good and very well thought out proposal. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any mention of thigh strapped weapons?
If he's talking about the same type I think he is Tactical holsters are thigh strapped Holsters. At least that's what the Holsters for my 2 Paint Ball Pistols are called.
If only there was a five-star function... Hrmmm...
I give you my 5-Bothan salute.
