Thread: Get ye to the test center

Hey all,

Just a word of advice...but start making smugglers on the test center.

With chefs, when our revamp came, there were few master chefs on the test center. It think there was about half a dozen. Which meant there was a dozen of us to test the entire profession. There was stuff we missed, which is a shame because while it is on the test center, it is the easiest time to get things change.

When smuggler gets a revamp, it will be on a test center for a few weeks and that will be the best time to tell the developers what you like and what you don't like. If you want to be able to check out the new stuff before it goes live, I would start working on your characters now.

Just some friendly advice from somebody who has been through a revamp.

Good advice there. If more people played on test center, even just an hour a week, we might find more things before they ever go live.

If they'd fix the damn upload to test, I'd do this.

I really don't want to have to waste my time mastering smuggler all over AGAIN.

Excellent advice SirVimes, but I, like so many other people probably, really don't have time to master the profession again instead of devoting time to my real character. Now, if I were able to copy my character over then I would be there in a heartbeat.

On a side not, I have created a character on TC, but the time I have to dedicate to grinding him up the trees is pretty minimal...

I don't have time to grind out a character for test purposes, and I play this game, I don't grind it.

The Devs need to fix the upload process, or make copies of a few different servers. The only way I'll test this is if Starsider gets a character copy to a TC.

FYI....

I posted a thread here a few days back where I asked specifically about Smugglers on Test Center.

In that thread, Star_Ranger responded that there were at least five Master Smugglers on TC and had some helpful advice for those considering Smuggler on TC:

Yeah, I understand all that...but just understand that when the revamp hits the test center you are going to be relying on other people for info on the changes...and if you think it should be changed or not. A lot of stuff was missed on the chef revamp because of this.

I know. You're right. But I just can't. I got too much other stuff going on in game alone.

There's also the fact that we're basically a Test center already. Runesabre said as much when we complained about Panic Shot getting nerfed to uselessness. He said he wanted us to test it out prior to a revamp of all the combat professions, and they'd maybe reconsider later. That's as close to candor as we've gotten from the Devs, who usually shy away from saying anything that would admit we're in Beta 4,paying to test their broken game and halfassed ideas for them.

I tried the test server. Ran into 2 people. It would take a week more or less to get into smuggler, and do that alone. not worth it for me. If I was given a master smuggler to help test on the test server, I would do it. But to spend all that time to do someone elses job... I want to help, but i want to enjoy the game as well.

I have 2 chars on testcenter started in the last month or two, they don't get played much considering I have chars on 2 other servers already, but I am progressing.

Neither are smugglers, or even striving to be... I just don't have the heart to do the grind. It doesn't help that I'm still not convinced my main is gonna last as a smuggler. But that doesn't mean I don't pay attention to things from the 'consumer' side of the profession. (and to jibberjabber - all the people are hiding in the player cities)

But, what I think SOE needs to do is nail down, formalize & promote what they want to do with testcenter-2. The last two pubs they've had mirrors of Bria setup but from my perspective it was pretty unplayable - too many systes not working (vendors, chat, even the bug system), not another soul out there, and no real direction for the short time it was up. At that rate the only thing I can see that could get tested was that the "live" code doesn't blow up when they try and roll out the final updates. BUT that's where the real potential lies for getting a brader player base to test - stable, promoted, stable mirrors of live servers that show up long enough in advance (week or two) to actually address bugs found and get some real, hard, facts in the hands of players and devs alike.
