I had my VERY first absolute newbie geta slice yesterday. I had logged in really quick and he asks me if I can slice his gun...

him: hi can u slice my guns?

me: sure, how many do you have?

him: 1 gun

me: ok, that's 10K for the slice.

him: im sorry i dont have that much

me (trying to be reasonable) : ok, well maybe we can strike a deal...how much do you have?

him: 250 credits? can u plz slice for dmg?

me (sensing that he has more money than he's letting on, so I try something different) : well, the stuff I use to slice for damage costs a lot of credits, so if you want it to be random, I'll slice for 250c. If you want a damage slice, I'll have to charge you the full 10K.

him: oh...ok, how about 5K?

me (laughing pretty hard now) : ok, I'll take 5K, but there's only a 75% chance you'll get damage.

*guy trades me a CDEF pistol and 'a jar of spice'*

me: um,what is thisjar?

him:ithought itwas yours...a thug dropped it,didhe steal it fromu or something?

/sigh

So I slice his gun, praying the whole time, and lo and behold, damage. Got lucky I guess.

*trade back the CDEF*

him: wow! ur a great smuggler! thx!

*he tips me 15K and walks off*

Just proof that not every NewB is wet behind the ears, but can be a vet taking a break and looking for new victims to mess with.

The thing is, Smugglers get by because they're trusted. Here's a scenario, and we'll make you Jabba the Hutt.
You need a shipment of spice to be delivered to RandomPlanet. Are you gonna pick the guy who's been known to steal his cargo on occasion, the guy who's known to deliver the cargo and keep the payment, or the guy who's known to deliver both the cargo and the payment?
You wouldn't pick the first two. Why? Because they might take your stuff. This is exactly why Jabba used Han so much. He was the best, didn't skim off the top. But, he did look out for his own neck, because he did drop that shipment, and even then hetried to pay Jabba back.
This is the same thing. Smugglers may be dirty criminals who don't play fair, but they're the trustworthy sort. Thier livelyhood depends on it.

Why do I have to be Jabba...no no I see your point. I just wanted to test the waters a bit. I really don't make money off slicing now (mostly I'm flying) and do it as a favor for guildmates. Well actually that's to build up their trust, in hopes they hand me a bunch of items I really need, and then take one or two of them without there knowledge.

No but I guess I'm not trying to propose all smugs go bad, all smugs stay honest, just do whatever works for you. If pinching the contents off a container (clothing attachment +10 Posture Up, +10 Pistol Speed, +2 Feign Death) and substituting it for something else (CDEF Pistol) works for you then who am I to judge. Just don't get caught.

If you want to build up a reputation as a boy scout smug, build up a faithful all trusting client base, and lead a relatively boring existence. I mean besides the occasional "chuckle" we get from uninformed, greedy, or stupid non-smugs what else is there I say. Take what you can get, don't get caught doing it, and sell the goods before the CSR's get a hold of you.

I hope nobody takes me too seriously...I just had to say what I had to say. Play, enjoy, slice, steal (ahem no no did I say that) and roll around in a bathtub filled with all your riches (dare I say "Treasurebath").

No one's ever complained about my prices for slicing. They're higher than most masters on my server, and I'm only slicing 4. (5K per weapon/armor, 3K per container)

/shrug guess i've just been lucky.

10k a weapon. 5k for armor and 1 k per container

I hate slicing containers. I might make them expensive too.

Unfortunately I have not had any dumb coustmers. Or well maby they are all on my ignore list. Who knows.

hmmm, this might be a doublepost, but my previous one seems to have gone away... no idea why/where it went... must be the dev's smuggler's love

finally got to the end fo the topic, read em all, have got nothing to do at work now guess i'll start working for a change...

im a master smuggler, and loving it slicing whenever someone asks me if i can slice, for usually 5k per slice.

this is about a customer that needed a slice, and a friend of her recommended me, since i helped her out a few days before on an FP-deal (800k profits )

now this friend of the client needed some Powerhammers sliced by a master. i was grinding tka 4xxx on dant at that time. i gave her my coords, she arrived...

she hands me the PH's, i start slicing. however, after 3 hammers(average slices) i run out of clamps. i found that out, when trying to apply a clamp, and get the msg that i don't have a clamp. i check for crates: none on me. so i pull out the crafting tool. i doubleclick the clamp and the crafting session goes to the next screen. then it happens: i get the following (probably known-to-all)msg: "u have cut the wrong wire. thanks to this, the system is so screwed-up that no-one will ever be able to slice this weapon again, thanks for trying and have a nice day."

naturally, at that moment, my heart stops beating. i inform my customer with the /sad emote of the situation. she is actually quite lighthearted about it, and tells me to slice the last one.

this time, not taking any chances, i craft the clamp BEFORE i open the slice-menu, including the knife and pull the WUK from the crate. i slice it. and my heart skips a few beats once more... the slicing gods DO know mercy: a PERFECT 35% dmg slice that brings the max dmg of the PH over 600.

i still offered the client a 50% discount, but she insists on paying the full price, since i did "attempt" to slice it. i was close to proposing her, when i remembered that i am already married

Dangergirl: ur the best client so far... or at least the most understanding

Ok, here's the funniest story...to me at least.

tell: Hi there, do you still do 30% or higher damage slices?

me: when they are damage, and over 30%, yes

tell: awesome I need you to do a damage slice for me please

me: You do realize that smugglers have no control over that yes? It is random

tell: yes, so I need an over 30% damage slice please

me: meet me at xxxx xxxx on Dath and we will see what happens

tell arrives...

me: Please kneel and pray. The gods of slicing are fickle.

tell: are you for real?

me: I honestly find it helps.

So I slice the weapon while this individual prays...getting 34% dmg...which is funny really.

me: I am ready to slice.

tell: oh ok. So over 30% dmg right?

me: I told you, it's random. Smugglers have no control over a slice.

tell: please can you make it damage?

me: How much would you pay me for a 34% dmg slice?

tell: If you could do that, I would pay you 100k.

me: Fine. Let me slice it.

pause

me: 34% dmg. 100k please.

tell: oh wow oh wow! Thank you so much. Tips me. Thank you so much for doing a dmg slice.

me: I told you, it's random.

tell: yeah right, whatever, I am always coming back to you! Thanks again

Seems even when you tell them the truth, they don't listen.

There was a post a page or two back about Slicing House Terminals. i do this all the time and its super easy. Just put your Master Smuggler tag up , and be 0400 merchant as well. Get the "Mark" to put you on his admin for the house, and drop a cr or 2 into his maintenance pool!! Success! a 20% Maintenance Slice!
