Thread: The end of hologrinding returns the Rifleman profession to its former glory?

What's everyone's thoughts on the death of hologrinding? I think you're going to see a return of some of the "hardcore" riflemen (Welcome back Barb!) and a lot fewer dabblers. I'm sort of hoping the profession returns to the relative obscurity it held before everyone and their three-legged sister started trying to master it.

It's pretty common to see riflemen now, from Novices on up... whereas before the holos started dropping you sorta had to feel sad for a Novice Rifleman, knowing it was going to be a long, boring grind to Master.

My other hope is that with fewer dabblers, less attention will be drawn to us from the nerf crowds. It was kinda cool when people just assumed I was an exploiter, instead of knowing how really powerful the profession can be in the right hands.

I'd love it if rifle returned to its former elite obscurity. When TKMs sneered at rifle, I was actually pleased, knowing that, with the right tactics, I could solo just about anything I pleased. And I earned my master before the patch, so I did a lot of hard grinding and bit a lot of dirt.

OTOH, nothing I've read so far about the Jedi changes (and there wasn't a whole lot in the Dev's note) said anything about eliminating holos. If they've come up with a way to use the holos without sending people out to grind skills they have no interest in, that would be cause for rejoicing for sure.

Currently I'm grinding tailor for a holo, and I have never had any interest in making a crafting char. Some aspects of it are interesting. I like to customize clothes. But, for the most part, grinding is grinding. And I can't stand customer service! Yuck! Give me a rifle and 25-65 meters and I'm a happier player.

But at least I can get my own hides.

There's mention of switching Jedis to a quest-based profession. The galaxy forums are rife with talk of the holos becoming worthless as the road to Jedi will ran by quests and not grinding. I think the quest-based system will open up Jedi to a lot of people and make it more inline with the movies.... but on the other hand, I'd be happy to see them remove Jedi all together. I sorta like being the third rebel from the left in the Ewok Raver scene. When I want to be a Jedi, I fire up Jedi Knight II.

"more inline with the movies"

The more Jedi there are, the less it's like the movies. Episodes IV-VI had 3 Jedi total. It really shouldn't be made easier to unlock it.....it should be much harder. Hopefully, the quests will be ridiculously hard, cause a surge in the Jedi population wouldn't make sense until after the fall of the Empire (which is a ways off).

personally I think this is just one way of keeping the jedi population down. We know they had plans for ups/downs in the amount there was. Theory: Once a way for jedi achievement is reaching critical numbers, old way is slowly ousted, new way implemented. And with a quest system you can easily make that ever-changing for the future, thereby creating a "i got jedi, but I doubt you will since i have no idea how to do yours" randomness.

I just want the forum troll TKA's and CM's who come here to learn how to master rifleman for their holo to leave. That's all.

I'm still gonna grind out WS, but if my second holo says BH, screw that!

I'll just wait untill they fix the FS system.

Can't wait til I make my own rifles(Gonna make like 100 T-21's all with prime resources and some enhancements and good component loot if I can)

My opinion, for the record..

The wording on the Friday Feature was a little vague and ambiguous.Seems like everybody is taking it like they are eliminating the profession-grind method of unlocking the FS slot. In fact, nothing of the sort was said..

They said they were going to make changes to the Jedi system - not the method by which you unlock your jedi..

I don't really believe they would have given away those holocrons for Xmas if they had known they were going to be re-developing it so soon after.

This is to appease all the hologrinders who have gotten to Jedi and discovered it is just another grind. Jedi-specific quests, Non-permadeath, these are all changes to the Jedis themselves..

But I could be wrong..
