Well you are hitting everythingit is just no dmg is done to the non agro bunch. However those non agros will react like they were just attacked despite having no dmg done to them.

So what's the best way to use it as it is right now?

What's the best way without a tank? Usually the mobs get on either side of me, so the cone doesn't really catch both.. I really haven't played around with it too much though, so I could be missing something.

I personally would rather it be only things that are in combat with me, and there needs to be an improvement in the targeting system so that you do not target groups that you do not want to target. Right now, it is too unpredictable as to what you will end up hitting if you use a ranged AE shot.

For instance, I visit the Gungan/Imp battleground near Moenia a lot. I have 5000 postiive faction points with one side and 5000 negative faction points with the other. Yet, many times I have found myself under fire from both sides because someone from the side I am fighting with decided to wander into my cone of effect at the wrong time, and suddenly, I am TEFed for both sides. And that comes after carefully positioning myself so that I have nothing but the enemy in front of me. If I am maxed out on postive faction points for a group, it should be difficult to target them, and it is not.

It should work pretty much the way it does, The first shot only hits the target you have selected manually. After that shot, if that target is social and its friends attack you and they are in the zone of effect, then they too will be damaged by subsequent shots. However, if they do not attack you, they do not take damage.

Then, to solve the problem of hitting targets you did not intend to target, there should be a separate next target key (other than just TAB, maybe CTRL-TAB) which will cycle through targets, but only those that are in combat with you or that are of the faction/group which you are currently in combat with.

so our best attacks only really work when the enemy knows we are there. anyone else have a freakin problem with that? i mean it really sux badly unless you are a creature handeller, and i dont want to be like everyone else. sure you can run around but it sucks cause you loose so much accuracy. point is aoe attacks should dmg anything they hit. it will reward those of us take the time to choose our targets carefully, much like a real sniper. thats a novel idea isnt it? sneak up on your target slowly, choose the position, carefully select your target and then unleash a devistating attack. the time it would take to do this would offset the overall firepower we have.

Logically, I think he's right. If the shot is hitting them, it should do damage, whether they have noticed us already or not.

Ideally this is how it should work, but once you learn how it really works in game it is easy enough to work around and really do some damage with.

I don't want to hit a lair unless the lair is targeted.

AOEs need the hit-all-targets properly in order to remain balanced. If they only hit things that were attacking you and didn't aggro anything else in the cone of fire, they would be too easy to exploit with nonsocial mobs like female pikets.

The current method of only damaging your current target but aggroing everything else on the second shot (then damaging everything on subsequent shots) is stupid and should be fixed to damage everything on the first shot, like the combat spam says it's doing.

I'd like to see some kind of MOB TEF type system. Basicly when you open up on a creature. Any other creatures nearby that will assist it would be TEF'd. So when you fire you can hit those others even though they haven't detected you yet.

Present system seems rather silly. You are spraying machingun fire at some opponents, but you don't actually hit some targets until they start attacking you? So much for getting the drop on them.
