Thread: A few questions from a new rifleman

Hi everyone! I've been playing on Chimeara-Europe for some time now , and I had been working very hard to become a Bounty Hunter , but then some time later , and after seeing some Riflemen in action ,I realised it was a lot more exciting to become a rifleman than a BH , and also , it was a lot closerto what I expected from SWG.

I was already a Master Marksman at that time , and so I decided to forget about Scout XP. After some group missions on Tatooine I got the Rifle XP I needed to get the novice rifleman skill!

This leads me to where I am now... even though I've been loving this profession and I am sure this is the only profession I will never drop , I don't know much about what to do inorderto succeed in battle! So , I'm here to ask the more experienced Riflemen what to do , if you guyscould help me , it would mean a lot to me...my questions are:

1- What rifle should I use atm? (I'm currently using a 74-481 - 6.1 speed Laser Rifle unsliced)

2- Should I use any armour in PvE? (Whenever I use helmets the mind encumbrance is terrible for me it seems)

3- I'm a Human... what should my stats be? (I currently have my mind maxed-1100 , but I don't know how much points to place in the other stats)

4- What should I hunt in order to gain some decent rifle XP?

5- I'm currently considering TKA as my 2nd profession , is it a bad choice?

6- And finally... are there any "special techniques" you guys use in PvE that I should know about? Right now I have some trouble with tougher mobs , but I'm sure I must be doingsomething wrong...

Thanks in advance!

1. i think this is pretty much personal choice, i prefer the t-21 for mid/long range and pull out a spraystick if a mob gets in my face.

2. i think you have a choice between not wearing armor, and having to heal yourself often, or wearing armor and having to use food/drug buffs often. each has a place, i prefer no armor for pve (because i can just get buffed).

3. no idea im a zabrak :-P

4. iopted getting counter-sniping 3 first for flushing shot 2, then working through sniping tree for the added accuracy. this works great against savage quenkers on dant so far so good

5. being prone when youre not in danger make sure you can /stand fast. also if you ever see a mob'sHAM barsthat you are not targeting, stand imediately and try to kite it with the best close range accuracy gun you have (spraystick for me). headshot2 and 3 work well if you want to eat away a mobs mind pool quick, just make sure you wont leave yourself in danger of being incapped in one hit to the mind.

I am pretty new to the class so my answers might be a little off so if anyone wants to correct them go ahead.

1. I personally use both T21 and laser but I prefer hunting with my T21 average dmg is a lot better than the laser rifle

2. I have not had much experience in using armor so i dunno about using armor in PvE but lots of ppl use it so might be worth using it (i don't personally but going to try it out properly soon)

3. People say max out mind and then get your willpower and focus as high as you can which is exactly what I done and works well

4. Savage quankers (sp?) on dantooine are great for exp even at 3-0-1-3 I still hunt them

5. Good choice as you would be able to take hits in melee and with good melee defence would be very useful

6. I have been a rifleman for about 2 weeks and I just use mind bleeds and hs2 usually to kill PvE but I have heard some of the counter-sniping tree has some good skills

All I can think of atm, hope this helps

A. Get a speed sliced laser, and use speed powerups. your attacks are horribly slow at this level, and DPS is all about speed. That laser looks damned nice damage wise for being unsliced-- it's far better than what we could get on kauri. It looks like it has a killer stock.

2- Should I use any armour in PvE? (Whenever I use helmets the mind encumbrance is terrible for me it seems)

A. I used advanced kinetic resist ubese (my set was 70%), with no helmet. encumbrance was manageable without buffs.

3- I'm a Human... what should my stats be? (I currently have my mind maxed-1100 , but I don't know how much points to place in the other stats)

A. Pick up medic, and keep your strength, quickness, stamina and constitution minimized (400). get health and action pools moderate (650-700), and put the rest in mind/focus/willpower. I went with a mindpool of 1000 rather than 1100, but that's personal preference.

4- What should I hunt in order to gain some decent rifle XP?

A. Lots of schools of thought here. my preference was leviasqualls on rori. with warningshots, you can easily slow them to sub-running speed and kite them without difficulty. XP is decent for a novice rifle

5- I'm currently considering TKA as my 2nd profession , is it a bad choice?

A. I think it's the next best thing to Creature handler-- but that's only my opinion

6- And finally... are there any "special techniques" you guys use in PvE that I should know about? Right now I have some trouble with tougher mobs , but I'm sure I must be doingsomething wrong...

A. get a speed sliced spraystick. make a macro that will equip it, fire a warning shot, then peace. map that to an easily reached hotkey. that's your "bail out" button. use it when something nasty is on you. Also, the previously mentioned 33% speed powerups, and plenty of food and drugs. Also, make musicians and dancers your friends.

I have several rifles I carry on me for different occasions. I typically use my laser rifle for most targets, but will switch to the T-21 if the target has armor or any kind. I also use my SG-82 if it has cold vulnerabilities. If you are going to be doing any PvP use the Jawa Ion rifle. It is the best rifle for it. I do not use any armor for either PvE or PvP due to the high ham costs and I have already adjusted all my stats to 400 except mind which is at 1100 and the secondaries at 950.

Thank you allso much for your help and tips!

You have no idea how much you helped me... after reading your posts I came to some conclusions:

1- Must get a Spraystick asap...

2- Picking TKA as my secondary profession seems like a nice choice!

3- Must remember to buff my stats often, using drugs , food ordoctor buffs.

4- Dantooine isa good planet to gain XP.

5- Should keep my "low" medic skills , just in case...

6- My most important stats are all "Mind-Related" and I shouldfocus the majority of my stat points there.

7- I must learn to use different weapons on different ocasions.

And of course...

8- The Rifleman community is GREAT!

my personal opinion is that Dantooine will be a bit rough on you at Novice Rifleman. it's a great planet to level on after you get a couple of boxes (sniping 1 for mindshot 2, or concealment 1 for conceal shot, plus some speed from special abilities)

most Dantooinian creatures will have 4K Ham's or more, and many have nasty status attacks (avoid upper level voritors and quenkers) or defenses.

that's why i advised hunting leviasqualls on Rori as a Novice. They're slow, easily kited with warning shot, and give decent xp. They don't deathblow, and have no nasty attacks. Most kinds of Rori tortons are in the same category too.

trying hunting mountain squills on tatooine before you go to dantooine. If those give you trouble, you're not ready for the outworlds yet.

Just started rifleman.

I'm on Dant hunting savage quenkers (Rifleman 1,0,0,3). I've got a great set of armor, and my Medic skills are, uh, very good. Quenkers are a better choice to start, esp if you've got some good kinetic armor. I fire my mind bleeds first, then armor up and wait for them to bleed a bit (I might get a headshot in before i armor up).

I'm getting about 100K an hour, but I expect this to accelarateas my accuracyincreases and I refine my technique.

Good Luck.

Oh, I took up rifleman yesterday, so pay no attention to me...

Heh, yes, use it often, just pop a Muon Gold, and when the downer hits, use it. When your fishak runs out, use another muon; perfect circle of defence.

This isn't a flame... just a legitimate question on your advice.

why would a novice rifleman need a T21? i see this alot, and always question it. With such a terrible Rifle Speed, even a speed sliced T21 is going to fire specials every 7 secs. You don't need the heavy ap, since nothing a Novice Rifle attacks should have heavy (or even medium) armor.

A good speed sliced laser can double your rate of fire over a T21, with only a slight drop in average damage, and xp gain is governed by damage per second, as we all know.
