Thread: My Dance With a Krayt...

last nite i decided to see how krayt hunting solo has changed. i pop over to the krayt graveyard and right off the bat find a krayt canyon dragon eating a ronto. so i stop out about 100 meters put my speederbike away toss a tent. after rooting around in my backpack for the p o k e ball that had my rancorchoo i pulled him out. after disassembling my camp i tell the rancor, who is a tamed one not a BE, to be brave giving him extra life points and siced him on the krayt.

i close to firing range and open fire with my high damage T21 to apply a few bleeds before switching to my lower damage one. the rancor after a few minutes starts running low on life so i pull him back. and start healing while moving away from the krayt. this works and i get the rancor back to 90% health tell him to be brave again and send him back. the krayt at this time is pretty much on top of him so he doesnt have far to go. so far i have done about 40k of mind damage to the krays 340k mind bar.

i am able to repeat this tactic with some clumsiness two more times getting the krayt down to the 140k mind area before the krayt decides he wants to play else where and takes a run over the horizon. i lose him in the haze and spend a good bit of time looking for him.

about this time i meet up with a novice commnado out burning the banthas for XP and ask if he ahd seen a wayward krayt leaking krayt juice out of holes in its head. he says no but will send me a message if he does.

about this time i send a message to a doctor friend that im in the graveyard and krayts are popping faster than banthas. so she decided to come over and join up. meanwhile i get a message from the novice commando spider saying he has found a pile of krayts. so i head over and we wait for the doc to show.

the doctor finally arrives and i swap out p o k e monsters and trade the rancor for a gurreck. we then proceed to become krayt fodder over and over trying to figure out just how to deal with a krayt as a group. after a while and about 200k damage to the krayt between the 3 of us a small group of losers come by and start trying to kill steal the krayt and about all they are doing is funding the local city treasuries with cloning fees as they didnt have a doctor to help em.

finally we get a pattern down of the commando tanking for a few previous seconds while the doc and i heal the gurreck whom we send back and the commando can then fall back for heals while i deal out damage while the doc is taking care of him. doing this we systematically destroy the new beefed up krayt with one pet one master combat profession, on master support profession and one novice commando.

loot 5 krayt tissue and knowledge on how to defeat krayts.

while discussing tactics the group that had tried to KS our krayt trained a juvie over us which promptly started chewing on our doctor so we decimated the juvie and got 8 armour segments off him.

lessons:
krayts are as fast as swoops
krayts have a much longer AOE attack
krayts will camp a body if your incapped and almost ignore all other attacks.
killing a krayt requires teamwork and is no longer soloable as their aggressive range is 64 meters.
killing a krayt via conceal shot is not possible
it MAY be possible to solo a krayt under very rare circumstances like that of getting it stuck or some other bug in the pathing.

You can solo using conceal shot. I fired off about 20 rounds in 20 seconds only to realize that to continue to do so against the Anctiant Krayt would be nonsense because after 20 nice shots from a great T-21 I but barely scratched him. So, I could have done it, but it would have taken about 1 hour or more, and I have better things to do, proably would not even drop loot. But he never did aggro, I just hit peace and retreated.

they will come after you eventually because the place where the krayt appears on your screen isnt always where he is really at. you relly cant see him move and when he starts to wander closer he will come get ya. we had a canyon krayt stalking us from 64 meters.

but yeah with ranger concealment your probably safe from that but the sheer time it would take would probably be several hours and i doubt anyone can fire that many shots without missing 2. on a juvie yeah it can be done pretty easy. and we got krayt armour plates off a juvie last nite so it might be worthwhile.

we only saw the canyon krayts and the juvie canyon krayts. the juvies if ia remember right have around 60k ham pretty much pre-patch canyon krayt ham. the full grown canyon krayts have 340k-350k ham. it took us about 45 minutes to kill it we did get incapped a lot and killed a few times but nothing our doc couldnt fix. mostly it was a mission to learn tactics to kill the new varient.

the optimal mix would be two MCH and a doctor. no pet can tank for long and our novice commando decked out in full composite and 3k doc buffs could tank for about 30-35 seconds before i had to send the gurreck back in. with two master CH one pet could be on the krayt and when it got low send the other and recall the beat one for a good doctor healing. keep swapping like that rather than sending both pets at once. the key is to stay out of its AOE range and not have your doctor fire any shots.

just because of the time frame involved in taking out 350k ham you HAVE to have two tanks to swap out for heals. the common tactic of sending all the pets at once is foolish as krayts have a devasting AOE attack now. one that rivals our flushing shot2 and seems to extend out to 30ish meters. that is what kept killing the second group that tried to KS the krayt from us.

fast pets like a gurreck are much better than slower pets as krayts can outrun just about anything else. im primarily a soloist and i DID have one down to half but i think i was just lucky and got a slow krayt. he didnt seem to want to chase my rancor too fast giving me time to heal him. i doubt i could repeat that again and would not liekly try it.

those are my impressions from fighting the new krayts in a small group that actually was thinking about tactics instead of the genereic "rush it and spray and pray" those dont work on the new krayts.

With ranger concealment and proneyou can get 6 misses before they come after you. However, you are in a race to kill it before it despawns, which is likely.

i agree we were getting nervous at one point when we fell back to regroup and get everyone healed that it would despawn on us. but i think our tactics are sound and just need a slightly different mix of skills.

I'm impressed, after watching a Krayt chase the remaining members of a 10+ person group around while only losing 10k of it's HAM I didn't think there would be anyone killing them without a massive mob of people.

get a buffed fencer/pistoleer wearing the craziest Ubese known to man to turn on his CoB, Warcry + intimidate, and then go to town. swap him out for pets when he needs healing (he should be able to dodge for a LONG time with buffs and 80% kinetic ubese).

put dizzy/blind/stun status on it, bleed it all you can... would be a good time!

how do combat medic poisons work on something as big as a krayt? do they get ar esist? or do they do steady damage?
