Thread: How to be both heavy gunners & sneaky snipers!

Was thinking of this after reading the post about whatour role should be; heavy gunner or sniper...

why not both!

Heavy gunner: The heavy gunner would be as it is now, the rifleman profession tree with maybe some added big guns for variation. Heavy gunners would have the advantage of still having skill points to spend on other professions. Basically whatever tweaks they decide for the combat revamp.

Snipers:Here we go....make becoming a sniper have to do with picking up another profession (and one that needs help); Ranger! Rifleman that also master Ranger (this would basically take up all your skill points I believe) would become snipers with these benefits:

  • Ability to "conceal" themselves: The biggest problem always mentioned with this idea is that it would be impossible to take the radar completely outof the equation, so my solution is to use it against other players: Concealing yourself would turn your radar dot purple to everyone. This would effectively make you un-TABable and force the attacking players to actively look for you and double click you to attack. The counter to this ability would be that once you have attacked another player, and they get within 20m (or some reasonable distance) your "cover" is blown and you return to being a red dot and TABable and easily attackable.

  • Sniper rifle Certification: A new rifle would be available used exclusively for sniping upon reaching Master Ranger. The most important feature of this rifle would be that it leaves no visible tracer in the air (so players cannot simply follow the shot back to the "concealed" sniper. There should be a significant time delay on this weapon, as a sniper bides his time, selects his target carefully, and thentakes pause to aim.

  • Special ablilty (SniperShot): This is up for debate, but this is how I envision this ability to work with this overallguideline: We can't strictly have a one shot kill. This would be unbalancing for the game and other players simply would not stomach it, so heres my twist: Make the shot more powerful depending on how hurt the player is! Also give the ability to target a specific pool to exploit a vulnerable player's weakness. This would define a snipers role as someone who lurks at the edge of the battlefield and picks off wounded players Fully healed players could not be one-shotted, while players that are hurt bad enough could be taken out in a single shot. I also think it would be in the spirit of sniping that this shot could only be used right after the Aim ability is used.

Anyways..thats my idea of the rifleman. Standard rifleman could be tweaked however you want to please the "heavy gunner" crowd, while allowing those that wish to sacrifice the skill points, to engage in sniping targets and being sneaky What do you think?

I dislike it because I am basically wasting 2 trees of skill points unless I master another profession. Either make "sniper" a new elite elite profession that requires rifles 4 and ranger or leave it be.

I honestly feel that they can make us both without changing our profession at all. (except for defenses perhaps) Just tailor guns to different aspects. We can make a 7 second gun hit the 1 sec cap at master? Then make a gun that has 2.5k max damage with AP3(basically a 1 hit kill)and a refire rate of 35 seconds. There you go we do a lot of damage once every 5 seconds. The T-21 works pretty well for an assault rifle, maybe tone down the damage or AP on it and voila we can be massive damaging snipers or soldiers.

To prevent it from being griefed make the refire rate also count towards changing guns. So if you take a massive headshot to a guy with the "sniper" rifle it takes 5 seconds for another shot or to take out the assault rifle/pistol/sword (plenty of time for a TKA to heal and run up to you if they aren't dead) maybe make it so that it can only target one person even if it is an AoE shot.

I already popped up a post on this idea, but my idea was to tie it to the specials and/or rifles used. They COULD code up a bunch of "sniper" specials that drop your firing rate to 2.0 or 3.0, or they could just code massively powerful rifles to only be able to shot @ 3.0 or so.
