I have been in this game since day 2 and always gearing towards Rifleman. I have posted a few times about Uber templates and such. But i think what people are forgetting is in PVP and PVE unless you solo, you must think in a group beneficial way.I am going Squad Leader becuase it helps the groups. There is nothing wrong with being support of a group, in this game Rifleman is a support class. Honestly we are smarter than most TKM or Swordsman, we doour fighting from 50m+ away
The Devs dont want the Uber templates becuase it tips the playing field. They know frustration comes from someone who got SWG for Christmas, and think they can come in and PVP right off the bat but realize it cant be done. They are afraid of losing that subscription.Money drives any business venture. Lets be honest anyone still playing this game since Summer 03 does not have a short attention span, but 85% of America doesNow i figure we have 250 skill pts, if you dont know how to use them thats your fault. But the Devs dont see it that way.
Just remember gang, just becuase your skill mods say +100 this and +130 that does not make you Uber. Knowing your profession and helping others make you Uber.
Bah dont listen to this crazy old Rifleman. Too many Muon trips
Well, i'll chime in a couple of thoughts.
1. i've been playing since day 1 (got in for 20 mins on the first day, before the CC servers dropped). I agree that there's nothing wrong with support professions. We'd all be screwed if there were no entertainers, dancers, docs, etc right? However, rifleman is NOT a support profession. We deal more DPS at master than any other class (save TKA potentiallly, and we do it at range).
2. your point about pvp and subscription base is a little skewed, i think. I knowif i were just now joiningthis game, Iwould notexpect to immediately compete in PvP. It's unreasonable to think that someone who's spent their "first" 250 skill points has learned the combat system as well as someone who's been pvping, tweaking, and modifying their template for months.
3. I agree that skill mods aren't the end all be all of pvp. Knowledge means alot-- good outfitting with equipment, buffs, etc means even more.
the truth about mmorpg is that if every single fulltime PVPer were to cancel their subscriptions SOE wouldnt even notice. they are that few. mmorpg appeal mainly to group oriented or soloists monster hunters and crafters.
SWG does have a larger population of PVP types than any other mmorpg and i firmly believe that is due to the way they implemented PVP in the form of the GCW where it is easy to get in and out so more people PVP in SWG than has ever been the case in any other mmorpg. it also helps that it was done in a way that fits the overall theme of the game.
