Thread: My first PvP.

Well I just joined a guild that does some pvp and I got my first chance to particapate in this part of the game. After having read the forum I figured I ought to do pretty well, I knew I wouldn't own the battlefield since I was not yet a master 4202 but I ought to do well.

Our group of rebels from several different guilds were attacking a base and we were fighting a group of about the same size on the other side. About 30-35 each. Our side moved out, I picked my target, a master doctor. I know it's not a fair fight, but this is a war and if I can keep him from resing his fallen comrades then we are that much closer to winning.

I have my target, were moving foward, the Muon gold courses through my neurons. I can't tell what armor he's wearing so I equip my t-21. I get in range and fire off several shots aimed at his head. The first shot hits, about 1/4 of his mind bar is gone. It's also the last thing I see as I die. Not only am I quickly put down but somebody gets next to me and dbs me.

As it is known I'm new to PvP my corpse gets the message don't clone. So I wait. Someone drags my body back to our camp. Soon our trusty doc, who had the sense to stay behind enemy lines, has me up on my feet. With a wookie roar I get back into the intense firefight. It's confused and hetic as any battle is, I switch to my Jawa blaster since I'm not going to be able to pick my target. Find the closest target and approach. My world fills with pain. Somebody offs me, and I wait. I'm dragged back to camp and resed. What's this I've lost my overt status. Not knowing any better I'm off to the fight, but before I get there I'm ordered by my guild leader to go back and declare. On route to the other side of the planet my internet crashes and that is the end.

Now there was some minor pvp before this. The attack we made was in response to an attack which was made on us. I was rushing to the defense of our base when I was killed. I didn't even see who killed me but it was a flamethrower that did the work. They then walked over and blew up my bike.

Later in guild training I went up with against a newbie. I did win that fight, since we were both new at pvp, it was basicly who is higher in his tree. He was carbines 3. I hosed his mind pool with a variety of weapons as range changed.

Now some thoughts.

Accuracy. Rifles are made for accuracy. It's what they do best, at least in the real world. This is why you see people hunting with rifles instead of pistols. The only exception is bow hunters but if you look at the English longbow, which could hit a man at 200 yards.

Damage. In the real world rifles generaly have a better damage outout. Granted a .44 is going to more damage then a .22 long rifle. Now I don't know why this carries over in to sci-fi. The only thing a bigger rifle should give you is more shots.

Bigger gun = bigger battery = bigger charge produced = more powerful shot = more damage

Its all about how you look at the problem, remember, there is no spoon

grind up to master before you PvP again. Anything else is suicide.

well, i think he's being a bit melodramatic

but yeah, when you hit master you'll have triple your speed (quintiple if you have +5 speed from, say, master marksman) and you'll gain access to a 5x damage shot. your damage output goes through the roof compared to 4444. it's quite a difference.

still, i had plenty of fun pvping as a novice. i learned a lot about hit/(burst)run, using /examine to check for weapons/armor, attacking those that are severly hurt and staying clear of those freshly buffed. i learned to use different specials in different situations. in fact, pvping at master is so monotonous, maybe i should drop the box... hmm...

also, at 4202 rifle, you don't have a whole lot of defense.

at master you'll have a bit more ranged defense and this will definitely help keep you alive some.

the best thing you can do as a rifleman in big group pvp is stay at the outside fringe of battle. target the nearest player who should be dancing in and around 50-64m, go prone (since you've positioned yourself so that there are friendlies between you and your prey) and open with flushingshot until 'stunned' sticks, then target the weakest pool.

always stay 50m away from the NEAREST red dot. if a red dot starts chasing you, run to the nearest PURPLE dot. (who is hopefully a melee player).

try not to draw attention to yourself, keep friendlies between you and your enemy, pick off the nearest red dots one at a time - you'll stay alive longer that way.

Wait till you get master, you'll be able to take on that whole town! As a master rifleman, you'll attack 4 times as fast, with an area affect special too. Just spam Strafe Shot 2 at who ever gets close and you'll be able to take them down one by one. Just your radar and try to keep everyone away from you.

My first pvp as a master rifleman was in theed. Was able to take down 8 rebs, a lot of them were melee classes. I just ran circles around them spamming SS2. Sniper shot is a beautiful thing.

Well theoreticly there is nothing to prevent a pistol type weapon that fires off the bigger charge and just goes through it's battery faster. I can understand why you would make energy rifles. Bigger battery, and ergonomics combined with ease of aiming. Look at ST:TNG some time for this. Some times they had there phasers aimed so badly the beam came out at an extreme angle.
