How will it prevent us from high damage? It's supposed to make it so that the specials you use ( the hame you lose from doing specials, regens faster than damage you take.)

No, that's ome other thing they were trying, but decided not to implement.

Damage mitigation is a passive skill that combat classes get. Ranged mitigation is makes it so when you get shot by a ranged weapon the weapn can only do a portion of it's max damage. I think there are 3 levels 20, 40 and 60%. These probably aren't the right numbers just an estimate.

What it does is chops off a percentage of the max damage your weapon can do, So weapons like laser rifles with super low minimum damage are gonna get screwed more, and weapons with high min damage like a t21.

There is a great post on the pistoleer forum that does a much better job of explaining it than i have.

Hmm. You are suprised that SOE did not communicate changes to us? That Thunderheart does a bad job? Well, you should get used to that

However, in this particular case, they did announce it somewhere. There is a thread in this forum about it.

The new HAM cost system was pulled of from TC and won't make it for the next patch. But it will come at some point.

The damage mitigation will be in the next update.

Damage mitigation will nerf us, but only in certain cases. There is ranged mitigation and melee mitigation. Obviously only ranged mitigation will reduce the damage we do. And only ranged attackers should get this mitigation.

So, for PvE with creatures who do melee damage, nothing will change for us. For PvE against NPCs or creatures that use a ranged attack, we will do less damage.

In PvP, we will do less damage against those chars that have mitigation (which they get from ranged skills).

SOE has decided to use an absolutely stupid and unlogical system, reducing the RANGE of damage. This means, the min damage will stay the same, and the damage range will be reduced, thus decreasing the max damage. A weapons that does 100-100 damage would not be affected at all. A weapon that does 1-100 damage will only do 1-40 damage against damage mitigation III. So, the higher the difference between min and max damage, the more damage you will loose. Yeah right. The Laser Rifle just became useless against targets with damage mitigation. And guess which profession has the highest average damage range...?

they actually said mobs would get mitigation too? i thought it was a skillplayers alone would be getting? (coupled with an increase in mob difficulty sure, but not specifically the addition of mitigation to them)

It will lower our damage against other ranged classes in PvP... of course something like a commando will be hurt even more because their top end damage is way higher on most weapons. Carbines, and pistols will be hurt less than us.
