Thread: Got a few questions for u rifleman ( The real thread )
Well after goin holo hunting fora while (3 professions done, the 4th said MBH and i aint doin that) I decided i wanna rework my character , i am joining a large guild that is MAJORLY PvP orientedand i wanna try to be the best i can in PvP. I was an apiring commando but i dont really like that profession so much now , although im not that far (0/0/2/0). So i have been lookin around for a great combo for PvP i hear that Mstr Fencer / Mstr Gunfighter is a good combo , i would have no prob with fencer but i dont really wanna do pistoleer , i was once a novice Rifleman (cause the T21 looked cool) but that was for a few days. so i ask u
1. i dont see so muchwhinning around here , is rifleman so messed up u all got over it or is it one of the few usable professions?
2. what is a good profession / professions to combo with rifleman?
3. I got taken out in 2 shots today bya buddy who is a rifleman ( not master) i was fully buffed , full set of 60%+ compo and a shield gen. but is the profession really that good in PvP?
thanx in advance for ne advice or flames i get (dont see why i would get flamed)

1) Read my sig on Sharpshooter Motto # 1
2) Doctor
3) Read Motto # 1 again, we do have a problem with KD & Dizzy though
cool, yea rifleman is sounding real good right now , but so did most of the other profession i have thought about in the past. Also u guys seem to be a very loyal group of fighters , all i see is " master sharpshooter for life" , " i wouldnt drop master for anything" and then ur guild tag pyscojuggalo. i was thinkin , is it a good idea to go up the meditate tree in TKA so i can heal my mind? or would i be better off goin med or doc? also is there ne good melee profession that compliments rifleman? such as swordsman (which attacks mind also , i think) i really dont wanna come off as a n00b but i really wanna chose a good template this time i cant stand waisting SO MUCH exp on random professions

Ignok,
I don't PvP nor do I plan to. Personally I like Rifleman because I think it's one of the few professions that allows you to solo PvE without a pet tank.
Rifleman isn't really that messed up. In fact it actually works fairly well. Of course we have issues with aspects of our profession. I think the reduced whining is a factor of maturity. This profession seems to attract the more mature players (in attitude, not age) because it takes patience. I saw someone once describe the rifleman as more of a thinkers profession. Figure the right range, going prone, using the right weapon for AP vs AR and damage type, etc.
What the right combo is depends on your play style and what role you want to have. You could pick up Combat Medic for the area poisons. Then use the rifle AoE attacks to finish off the job. You could go Doctor to heal and buff yourself and your group while in combat and use the rifle to take part of just to defend youself. A melee class might be more your style. Use rifle from range then close in for the kill.
But with the combat revamp coming up what ever you pick now may not be as effective after the changes. Or it could be more effective. My opinion is you are better off finding a combination that you enjoy as opposed one that is "uber". You'll have more fun and are less likely to get with a major nerf.
Not sure what your buddy did. There are a couple variables that might explain it. Shield generators are flaky and don't always work. So that could have been part of the problem. Also was your armor 60% across the board or was there some vulnerabilities? Where you buffd in all stats or just Health and Action? He could have used a weapon you were vulnerable to, hit the mind pool which may not have been buff'd, and gotten some good damage rolls. So it's hard to say what happened based on the information given so far.
Personally I wouldn't concentrate on a melee profession that also is primarily mind attacks. Being versatile would seem to be a better PvP strategy than being overly specialized. But again, with the revamp comming anything you choose now can be drasticly changed in a month.
yeai just talked to him and he was using a T21 damage sliced , powerd up , pre nerf , krayte im not sure bout the krayte part. but yea that thing hurts. BTW i have been polling ppl ingame about it and i have not heard one slightly negative comment besides the mind which i have under control , my buddy is master smuggler so he supplied me with spices and his Alt is a master doc so i am ALWAYS buffed. I really think i found what i was lookin for.

alright im pretty sure im gonna end up goin rifleman , just need the XP , what do u guys think the best plan of attack is for me to work my way up and be semi deadly fairly fast ( or as soon as i can) i was thinkin go 4/0/0/? and the work up the second column then the 3rd

Do you solo or have a pet tank?
If solo I would get Sniping I (first column) first for the accuracy and bleed shots. Then Concealment I (second column) for ConcealShot. ConcealShot is a soloists best friends. Then go up CounterSniping (third column) to get FlushingShot2 at CounterSnipe III. Any time you have enough combat XP use it to level Rifle Special. The increased speed will make everything go a bit gaster.
From there I'd go up Sniping for the accuracy mods. Then finish off Concealment last.
If you have a pet tank. Then same as above but skip Concealment. Go from Sniping I to CounterSniping III.
I do not PvP much either, Waste93, but I have to disagree with your position that you should not pursue a melee profession that attacks mind. I leveled Rifleman by taking Pistol up to IV in Marksman. The idea being that if they got in on you, you could switch to pistol to avoid the melee modifier and horrible accuracy at close quarters. Of course, the problem there is that, if you are working mind on the target with your rifle, and have to switch to pistol, you are essentially starting over by going to the pistol's random pool attacks or targeted attacks on the health pool. So, yes, having a different style of attack makes you versatile, but in this case, that versatility was actually a detriment since so may things make it through your initial volleys as you are leveling Rifle.
After mastering Rifleman, I decided to master Swordsman as well. I am taking this route because if they stay at range, I can deal mind damage or random pool damage with my rifle. And if they close to melee range, I can continue doing mind damage or random pool damage with my sword skills. With the combination, I can, in fact, put up to 4 mind bleeds on the target, and can continue dealing mind damage with /meleeheadhit3 if they close or stay with Headshots if they do not. If I am attacking Random pool at distance, I can continue doing so if they close.
This gives me plenty of versatility, yet allows the melee profession to mesh well with the ranged.
Down sides to rifleman are it takes quite a while to level and is not very powerful at low levels. I reached master a week or two ago and dont plan on dropping it even after deciding to start grinding for holocron professions.
As you may have read the main problem we have is with maintaining our mind pool. I would feel pretty confident saying we all live off of muon gold, fishak, and the other one i cant spell. (Rhyskath?). Fencer is a great supportive profession because the defensive mods stack. (i've heard rumor that may have changed a couple days ago) and it is a great back up if something does get to you before you kill it (which is not often).
Whining - My theory is that after a few days the whinners realize how long it will take to master the profession and leave before they get started. Rifleman have issues and lack of answer just like all the other professions, we've just determined to stick it out and hope that they dont nerf us faster than they fix us. It will be interesting to see if the proposed weapon balance thats to come in the future will fix the lack of power of the t21 and or the incredibly high mind costs of our specials.
In PvP the ability to target mind can be helpfull all though unless I'm buffed i often drain my mind faster than i can drain theirs. The Jawa Ion rifle is the PvP rifle of choice because its stun damage type targets composites vulnerability, so a few nicely placed head shots from a sliced and powered up jawa does have the potential to drop a PC target in just a few shots.
Advantages - the heavy AP of the T21 definetly helps when hunting large game like krayt dragons. PvE damage is very nice. Its a great feeling to pull 5500 damage off with one shot. Speed at master is great. I'm afraid of the 3 second cap i've heard proposed as i currently rely on my auto fire to kill things.
It's probably to late for me to be thinking straigh so hopefully i've given you a good view of the advantages and pit falls of the profession. It has its problems just like the rest of them but it's got me hooked.
Right now I'm2 2 3 3 in rifleman and loving it. I'm also working on mastering Doctor to compliment riflemen. From what i hear Doctor is a good profession to compliment Rifleman simply because you can buff yourself. In other words, you can stack your mind stats and keep yourself buffed 24/7... Muon always helps though.
I also heard that CM is a good profession to go with Riflmen. You can take out other players while throwing heals around to your teammates. One funny thing though is how CM can throw further than MRM can shoot ![]()
Just had to give an answer like that we are too friggin awesome. But yes the grind can be bad and we waste alot of mind(See motto #2:smileyhappy
, that and our weakness to KD.
Since I'm not sure if and how defences stack anymore I suggested doctor, doctor is really good for groups since everyone can use buffs and rez. If you solo get some KD defence (Fencer/Pistoleer).
This profession is one of the best professions if you use good tactics like the others said and to me it is the most rewarding after the grind. All our speed and power is at the top level of our profession, Advanced Strafe and 20 of our speed is in the master box alone. That means from 4-4-4-4 to master is a leap and novice compared to 4-4-4-4 are two entirely diffrent experiences.
There are alot of good posts on how to level so do a search, with good advice and alot of free time you can master Sharpshooter in 2-3 weeks.
If you master sharpshooter, you will see why everyone here is so happy. Hope you join us and good luck.
