Thread: T21 damage bug... or does it translate to other weapons too?

I was out hunting Imperial Officerstoday, using my trusty T21 and krayt laser rifles, and I came across a big disparity in the damage each would do.

The officers' stats were 5% to all damage types and an armor rating of none. As everyone knows, the Laser Rifle and T21 both do energy damage, where the T21 has heavy armor piercing, and the Laser has medium.

The damage stats on the guns are 190-490 for the T-21 with7.5 speed, while the laser has 80-460 with 5.5 speed. Right away, the T-21 has betternumbers, while I would think with the higher Armor Piercing, the end result would beeven moredamage. I know this had been discussed under the old combat system with T21s that were vastly inferior to laser rifles, but comparing two similar guns under the new system, I think it bears examining again.

What I was noticing was that shooting the officers with the T-21, the damage reflected on the combat screen would be about half of that displayed in the real world. Display of 2000 would translate into 1000 taken away from the stat pool. I don't have an issue with that... it's been that way for a long time, I understand sort of why... Number onscreen is before the resists and armor class are factored in (under the old system). What boggled my mind, was that using the same shots with the laser rifle, I'd get a display onscreen for 2000 which would translate into a hit for roughly 1200 on the combat menu and ham bar. I figured, "well this must just be a fluke. I got a lucky shot off, or whatever".

So I kept doing this... for the better part of two hours. I stopped logging the damage shown onscreen and damage shown in combat window after the second time I died... which was about 5 minutes time. I did however continue to watch for trends in the damage displayed versus the damage logged in the combat window versus general expected damage for the shots. What I found, without a doubt, is that the laser rifle, with its lesser stats were doing significantly more damage than the T21. Even using autofire, the laser rifle would shoot between 250 at the very lowest to 700, with most shots falling in the 400-500 range. The T21 shot between around 200 and 650, with most shots falling in the 300-400 range.

Am I being mislead by the onscreen display/combat window with its 60% effectivity for the laser and 50% effectivity for the T21, or is this a genuine problem as a result of the new combat system?

I didn't try this with other rifles (other than my second T21) or on different targets so that I wouldn't be muddled with lots of different resist rates. Like I said though, I continued this for about two hours and it was the same EVERY time. Any insight or an explanation of the new combat system and "why" a heavy armor piercing gun with higher stats would do less damage on a no-armor target than a medium-armor piercing gun would much appreciated.

Just my experience but I have always seen a greater increase in the t21 damage over the laser rifle. Also Im confused how you werent doing more than your displayed damagefor something that only had 5% energy resist and no armor that doesnt seem to make any sense to me at all....

You have it backwards... the number in combat log is pre armor, etc, the number over their head is the damage done to the primary catagory (spillover is not shown .) Suggestion - take it slow. Conceal shot - peace - check ham bars. You'll live a lot longer.

The T21 does more damage to folks who have armor when the laser has better stats. The gripe is that lasers do better damage to folks without armor - as generally the stats are much better on lasers. (A resource issue apparently.)

Would you care to test out a 400 year old sword to see if it's decayed to condition 0? All the prior testers have no comment. Perhaps a gun which was used in WW I and still fires with high accuracy upto 1km?

If that doesn't get you, then start reading current military specifications for combat equipment.

T21 ripped through the Nightsister protecters AR2 100% energy resist. actully i notice alot more damage on every target with the T21 (maybe i got a crappy laser). i switch guns ALOT, just to see what kind of damamge they do on average to each target, and the jawa cause i like the sound.

I can just see a "Wait for the Combat Revamp" and "Wait for the Smuggler Revamp" quote all rolled into one.
"Wait for the Smuggbat Revamp"

i thought i was the only one who used the jawa because of the sound lol. My t21 is 200-465 7.4 and it always does more damage than my 50-493 5.7 laser rifle.

I'm just saying what I'm seeing with the combat box vs. world displays. I don't know what's going on with it. 2000 on a hit in world view on action knocks their Action Bar down 1000 points and the combat window displays "You hit so-and-so for 1000 points", etc.

My T21 has better stats than my laser, thats why I'm having trouble figuring out why it does less damage.

I was trying it out on Imperial Warrant Officer IIs and Staff Sargeants and such. If you're a rebel try it yourself... or find an imperial equivilant. The T21 does much more damge to heavy and medium armor things (most of the time) although I've found a few instances where the Laser does more. I'm just wondering if this has anything to do with the latest damage mitigation combat system they implemented.
