Thread: Which melee profession should I go for...

Ok, Im considering taking up a melee profession after getting my arse handed to me whenever someone gets within 10m of me, PvP or otherwise.


I'd be able to take up one elite melee profession and get the branch that contains all the defensive bonuses, the Melee Damage Mitigation in particular. This would mean ditching Pistols 1-4 and all the bits I have left of Scout (4-0-4-1). I will keep my main combat profession as Rifleman.


So, two things, is this a bad idea and if not, which profession would be the best to go for?

TKA is best all round melee profession IMO.


Fencer gets better defence that stacks when you're using your rifle, but TKA can self buff andcure poison/bleeds/wounds.


Personally I plan on going master fencer / tka 4004 to get the best of both worlds, however having no scout or warning shot is going to hurt.

better watch out the template of rifle man melee is being looked into by the devs ....



and will probably get a nerf..



theres been peeps soloing bolle bols (and other things)with out taking a hit for over 2 minutes , with this sort of template.




god only know what this is going to do to rifle man, fencer, or tka ... but im sure its not going to bea Good thing.

/agree on TKA.


If you get 4004, then you will be able to powerboost for 8 minutes (raise your ham by 1/2 your mind), heal all wounds, disease, poison, and bleeding, and you will at least double your melee and ranged defense. If you are purely pve, this will make you a force to be reckoned with indeed.


If you are pvp, you might want to consider fencer instead for the state defenses (dizzy, etc) and you will also get a sizable amount of melee/ranged. However you do forgo the ability to turn 1000 mind into 1500 mind at no cost to you


If block worked well i'd say pike would be a good alternative for the stacking block mods, but it's debatable how well that will work (i doubt it would be as good as pistol/fencer's insane dodging ability)

Heh everything is being looked into by the Devs, however I sometimesfeel they wear a blindfold while looking. I fully expect a nerf to rifle speed and general defences soon, which would be funny seeing as they just got buffed.


A post in the TKA forum suggests that they will be addressing the kiting issue soon, which should prove interesting for all of 5 minutes while people work out: buffed melee 4tehwin.

Well.. the most bang for your buck is MTKA.


You'll never need a doc except for state change cures and secondary stat buffing.


MTKA/rifleman are lethal and versatile you can respond to changes on the battlefield.

PVE ch

simple as that. pick whichever you do more of and go for it. no sense worrying about what the devs may do unless it is live on the TC. take ya a week or two to master any skill so switching isnt that hard when the time comes. the only time i would worry about future changes, like i said, is when they actually appear on the TC.

well, we were/are Master Rifleman/Doctors at the same time - PvP ownage except for that bugger of a TKM who snuck into 25m when we ran out of room to kite. time to diversify!


i've already started my Master Fencer climb - i'm0303 right now and my end template is tentatively Master Rifleman, Master Fencer, TKA 4002, novice medic + warningshot (to be adjusted at the end).


I may eventually switch to Master Rifle, Fencer 4440, TKA 4404 for all the defenses, but i'll try master fencer first.



just do yourself a favor and get a +5 rifle speed tape if you haven't got one already! put it in a shirt you will never take off (don't worry, when your shirt gets down to 0/xxxx life, the skill tape still works right now i've got a nice white BE +14 warcry +14 intimidate shirt with my +5 rifle speed on it. mm mm mmmm!

Ah I think I'm going to have to do some cross server shirt stealing.


Chimaera has only been open a few weeks (about 6 I think) so wedon't have many tapes available yet. Ido plan on getting one of those +14 warcry / +14 intimidate shirts.


My reason for going master fencer is that it can hold it's own now in a fight, so I'll have the option of using my fencing skills to kill with rather than just stay alive. Although the rifle + melee spec isn't quite as good as it used to be due to the removal of 2.5x melee, it looks like fun.

im currently 2/2/0/1 in CH and will probably not go any furhter since i cant use my gruals



i should be master rifle anytime now then will start working on a melee profession.



Its not that I wasnt aware of the best way to grind rifle xp, its just that i dont want to hehe. Ive always tried to keep things varied so i guess i could have knocked this out before now, but hey i cant just do the same thing over and over again!!! (i started out as artisan and got tired of it very quickly) since im a resident of dantooine maybe i will finish out rifleman wiht my razor cat and my master BE friend is making me a sweet vermok.

heh, only problem with baznitch is all the crap that is between you and them... and that doesnt take into account the horrid terrain.
