OK, I'm fairly new to the game & to the Rifleman profession. As rifleman stands I'm 2/1/1/1, I have a T21 & Laser Rifle.

I get the take cover idea, but is conseal shot the only shot I can use & not get attacked?? I understand that the mindshots were nerfed, but can Iuse a mindshot while under cover the same way?

I'm trying to Solo a few times, but everytime I mind shot an animal I get attacked by 3 others. What do I need to do? Well besides keep hunting in groups & get like 900 xp per kill..

I'm on Bria server if anyone is willing to show me the ropes..

Thank you in advance for any help

If you use mindshot, even from cover, as soon as the bleed ticks in you will get aggro. If you want to snipe then I'd suggest you forget cover and just stick with conceal shot. I've yet to be attacked when using conceal shot unless my intended victim gets too close, say 40m or so. I've sat back and fired off maybe 7 or 8 conceal shots without being noticed, plenty of time to kill most things I've fought.

That's my experience anyway, but I'm only a 3-1-0-1 rifleman. Maybe a master can confirm this.

All Take Cover does for you is make you harder to hit from range, in other words it increases your Ranged Defense but the increase is less than just moving around. Which is why everyone says it is pretty much useless. As a Master Rifleman I never use take cover anymore, the only time I used it while leveling was when fighting humanoid npc's that will only used range attacks.

There is only one shot that says it requires Take Cover and that is Suprise Shot, but Suprise Shot is broken and works outside of Cover. Conceal Shot does NOT require Take Cover. Also if you use any other shot than Conceal Shot the NPC can/will notice you depending upon the position you are firing from.

I just picked up rifleman and had lots of combat xp so I'm 0/0/0/2 right now. I used takecover a LOT while grinding up the rifle trees in marksman, and I'm almost certain that takecover increases the number of shots you can make while prone before a mob will notice you, whether it is intended to work that way or not. I didn't even know that it increased your ranged defense.

Squibll,

I believe you will find that the increase in number of shots comes from being prone (a requirement of cover), not from being in cover. If you are prone, it will take longer to detect you than if you are kneeling and if you are kneeling it takes longer to detect you than if you are standing. /Takecover increases your ranged defenses, but nothing in the description suggests it makes you harder to see, and I have not seen any increase in the number of shots you can take while in cover over just being prone.

3 shots... has anyone gotten more then 3 free shots before being agroed?

This is w/ mask scent and kneeling or prone.. I found that prone did not give me an extra shot... might have something to do with my speed... i don't know for sure.

Make sure you go x x 3 x as soon as you can... Flushing Shot 2 will help you a lot!!

Yeah at Master you can get like 6 shots before anything notices, but I think that is a glitch that has do with the speed at which you are firing,

Before Master it was on the third shot I would always be aggroed, unless I was using a really slow rifle, then it was on the second shot.

Take cover isn't very useful. Just lying prone and using conceal will get you a long, long ways. There are a couple of mob types to worry about, but for the most part, this simple, if not slow approach to hunting is all that you need. I love using conceal on stormtroopers, for example. They never notice me, and almost always stay put and just "take it". Bantha are another great victum for conceal. Even squill, although squill tend to move around a bit more.

If you do get aggro'd, warning shot can be your friend. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it's nice.

Actually, itlooks to bea combination of speed, posture, and distance. There is really no question that you are easier to detect the higher your posture and the closer you are. If you walk up to a crtitter and shoot it at point blank, it is going to aggro almost immediately. You have to be back at least 40m, and the lower your posture, the better. Since hitting Master though, I have been able to kill targets without being aggroed by either the target or its friends even though I fired as many as six shots to kill it.The most I could do before Master was about 3 to 4.

And that makes sense. If it takes six shots to kill a target, the target will be dead at the 5 second mark if I am firing at the speed cap. If I am firing at 2 seconds per shot, at the 5 second mark, I am only in between my 3rd and 4th shots. Let's assume for a moment thatthe target aggros on you if you are still shooting it at the 6 second mark. At the speed cap, the target is dead before it aggros. At 2 seconds per shot, at the six second mark, you are just placing the 4th hit, so it aggros on you. Thus, it would naturally look like you only get 3 shots before it aggros when it is really whether or not you are still shooting it within a specific period of time.

So I would have to agree, it is related to time. Although, the higher your posture and the closer you are, along with other factors, may make you easier to detect.

Dark,

The other side of this is that you must know the animals you are shooting at.

If you pick (for example) a Ronto Lair.... you have to know which of the animals will group attack... and which you can shoot down without all the others agrring as well. Generally the Bull Ronto (and it there's more than one Bull out) needs to be the very first you shoot down. Once the Bull's are gone, then rest of the Regular or Dwarf of the series will not aggro you until you shoot at them. Same with the Bantha's (Matriarch first, and down the line of strongest and most agressive first).

But the other comments also are right. 3 or 4 shots before any animal (still standing of course) comes after you. Conceal shot seems slow to me; go prone instead of take cover; and use HeadShot as much as you can. Your Mind/Focus/Willpower need to be as high as you can get them.

Hiya there, first post in the rifleman forum

I agree with Beamstalk, it has to depend on your rifle speed skills and your rifle's speed, but also on what special you are firing.

I'm currently 4403 and using a 4.5 speed laser rifle and get always 4 shots before the mob starts running towards me, and an additional before he actually reaches me I'm firing headshot3.
