Ive been playing for about 4 weeks now, still fairly noob, so bear with me.

I'm halfway up my entry novice rifleman xp bar, Ive been reading many posts stateing that Riflemen can't wear armour or its not advisable. I'm a human and have migrated my mind stat barto about 900 and thedamage (red) and strength (green)to about average 600ish. I can get a complete unsliced composite armour set on apart from the bracers, which is how I have been playing.

I just assumed that because I can get it on that everything is hunky dory.

But thinking about it surely this would be the case with all Riflemen, am I missing the point here?

Does the armour have negative effects on my performance and what would these negative effects be?

Thanks for your help

get yourself a good suit of composite until you reach master rifleman (just do NOT wear the helmet) when you reach master armor hinders more then helps.

As soon as you get headshot 2 and 3 you will see why rifelman cant wear armor.

You can still wear armor, but in that case you gonna need tons of food drinks a spice.

Armor reduces your secondary stats. For rifelman the most important is focus. This affects how much mind a special costs you. The other thing is that higher specials have higher HAM cost mulitplier. For example a headshot 2 costs less than a headshot3. A strafe shot2 for example costs me (800 focus) about 150 mind with my t21. Wearing full composite armor the mindcosts would be 200+ . And at master rifelman you shot specials at about 1.8 secs. That mean your mind is gone in less than 9 secs in a fight.

I pvp without armor mostly, but i keep a helm, chest, and legs of 70% kinetic ubese in my inventories, macroed on the + key of my keypad.

When a melee gets close i hit that and whip out my sword

Make a big difference when the TKA horde gets close and starts spamming nexu grin.

It's both really.

Wearing armor increases the HAM cost and slows down your regen.

I only throw on the composite when something starts running my way that isn't too friendly.

Spend the money on food. Then you can wear armor AND still shoot without HAM costs. My current favorite combo is ryshcate and BoH, I take 1 of each with no armor on, and 2 ryshcate and 1 BoH with armor on. With full armor I tend to still have a slight HAM ussage, but its like 11 or so, which I can deal with.

if you feel the need to wear armor (highly advisable to get a good composite helmet to combat eyeshot spam) unless you havea crazy defense template- grind somecash and invest in crates of glucose pate (if you can find it), or Ryshcate, or breath of heaven. any of those will give you +350 (at least) of focus each unit. usually you can eat/drink two of these and have at least +700 focus. this, +doc buffs = little to no ham cost for spamming strafe2 with a t21 while wearing most composite armor

put the food on a macro that clicks some empty hotbar keys (like an armor macro)- just remember to put more food/drinks in the hotSlots when they run out. and keep a muon handy for emergency situations as a "mind heal".

glucose pate is my favorite, about +400 mind +400 focus for about 8 mins and you can usually eat 2. it needs domestic meat though, so it can be tough to find. beg, borrow, and steal the cash needed for this stuff when you see it. become good friends with every chef you see!

ryshkate is cheaper, usually. use this stuff in pve - or if you run out of glucose pate in pvp. breath of heaven is good as well, but again, can be pricey/hard to find, and isn't as good as glucose pate unless you need to buff ALL ham cost secondaries (strength, quickness, focus - it adds at least +350 to each of these stats per drink. good for those times when you're not doc buffed.)
