Thread: Mind shot 1

I know this isn't a rifleman ability, but whenever i use mind shot 1 it does no mind damage and in the combat chat bar it says that I used distracting shot. Someone please tell me what i need to do to use mind shot 1.

It causes the mind to bleed. Its a DoT (damage over time) along with action and health shot.

Quick question for you Riflemen out there. I'm a Master Carbineer, with BH Carbs 1-4. I have Eye Shot from BH pistol for the mind pool attack, but that's the only time I'd want to use pistol. My carbine gets me thru most situations, but I like having a mind pool option. That being said, I was wondering how effective Mind Shot 1 is from the Rifles 4 box that I have. Since it hits mind as well, and I use a mind pool attack after my victim is dizzyed and kd'd, will Mind Shot 1 be a somewhat effective tool with a laser rifle, maybe not as good as eye shot, but still decent? I know you guys are above and beyond Mind Shot 1 now, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has any input. I haven't tried this out yet, as I am at work, and it's been months since I got Rifles 4, and haven't used it. Much appreciated for any help/advice.

T21's are most effective for applying bleeds due to thier higher average damage. Also not sure how mitigation affects bleeds. A good laser rifle can start a nasty bleed tho, like 250-350 after PvP reduction if you're lucky and use a damage powerup on it. A stocked, damage sliced, damage powered up laser rifle would be what you want. High HAM costs but if you only use it for one shot you should be able to deal with it

Thanks for your input. I own a rare T-21 on the Tarquinas server, as we can't make them there yet, but want to save my remaining skill points for the Investigation line in BH for Jedi's, so I'm not certified for it. I thought about Spray Sticks for the speed on Mind Shot, or the slow Jawa Ion for stun versus composite helms, but the Laser seemed a good bet for speed and dmg, since the only Rifle skill mods I have are from Master Marksman, and Rifles 1-4.

If you only have Marksman Rifle 1 - 4, go the Laser Rifle.. Definitely, get a nice damage sliced Laser, Power it up.. and Roberts your Mums Brother... So to speak.

Thanks Onichi. With my BH confusion and Carb charge shot, I can anticipate the average PVPer will be on his back long enough for me to switch to rifle and mind shoot 1 him, and then a few other carb shots before he regains his equilibrium, then rinse and repeat. I loved eye shot, but after carbs, didn't want to invest all the points necessary into pistol for just a mind attack. The only way my template works is by giving up Medic too, which is a whole nother situation, but I was curious to see how mind shot 1 would do, just for mind pool attacks.

Keep in mind also that you can fire a mindshot a second time (or MORE) and the highest value will be the one that sticks.So watch your Combat queue window when you shoot the mindshot. If you get a "low roll", fire it again. A higher value WILL replace a lower value, but not vice-versa. So you might want to shoot it at least twice anyway.


Keep in mind that NO DAMAGE is done to the target's HAM pools when the shot hits. Damage only gets applied to the target with each bleed (or "tick") starting approx20 seconds after you shoot it.

Thanks Way'ev-Da. Good to know. I really just grinded to Master Marksman early on, to get to BH, and didn't take the time to enjoy all the little nuances of rifles. This info is most helpful. You and the other Rifleman/Riflewomen have been most helpful and nice in answering my question.

As further enticement, a decent dam sliced, powered up laser rifle can drop MS1 dots over 1k damage per tic, for 6 tics. That is 6k+ damage. I think my best MS1+MS2 added up to 3600, and my laser ain't that impressive.


Rifle IV is the most useful skillbox in marksman, hands down, followed only by Aim.

If you only have master marksman and no rifleman, your rifle attacks will be abysmally slow because you only have +30 speed. Even with a speed-sliced 4.0 laser rifle, you're looking at 4+ seconds per shot, and you'll miss a lot because you don't have any of the rifleman accuracy mods. You would do much more damage with eyeshot than you would with any rifle, and with your +115 carbine speed you'd probably kill people faster with just a carbine than you would by switching to scatter for eyeshot.

Thanks for the input Jennai. Yeah, I was looking for some magical way to effectively hit the mind pool, and use my remaining skill points for Investigation. Normally I can take down peeps with carbine, but sometimes they are buffed to high hell, and I need to attack the weakest pool. Being a carbineer, the HAM on the action shots is a killer. I have some thinking to do.
