Thread: What exactly does Cover do?
I am switching from Pistoleer to Rifleman (rifleman works with my ranger part much better), so polease bear with me.
What exaclty does Cover do? Does it add defensive bonuses? Does it help prevent detection?
I havn't noticed any bonus when I sucessfully use the skill, and I can get about 3 shots off before detecting if I am using cover, or prone using mask scent (or ranger camo).
Any information would be appreciated.
Back in beta I used to be able to take on red rebel npcs and do pretty well using cover. They would get in a shootout with me and miss a lot. Forget at what point that stopped working so well for me, but I haven't used it for a long time.
Maybe it's just that someone inevitably runs up, or it stopped making them miss. Could be a combination of both.
2 questions:
#1 Have the Dev's acknowlded that Cover does not work? If so, are they going to fix it?
#2 Don't you need to use Cover to use some of the other Rifleman specials? :confused
I think it says so in at least a few of the descriptions.)
I recommend getting buffed, using Angerian Fishak and Glucose with Muon Gold and then /takecover and /concealshot, /concealshot, /concealshot
You'll solo some bad ass stuff this way. If you're a smuggler with feign death and a tk meditation like I am you can really save and heal yourself.
Make sure that you stand and peace after your last concealshot because you cannot peace while immobilized and if you fire another /attack shot you may distrub a hord of creatures.
just a note, you don't need to take cover to use conceal OR surprise shot.
that said, the other thing cover does for you is give you something like +200 accuracy (a friend of mine in pvp, master rifleman, uses /takecover and headshots on master pistoleer/fencers in big group combat.).
that +200 accuracy is unconfirmed, he basically just said "it gives us way higher accuracy, something like +200).
haven't tried it myself, but to a non-master rifleman who plans on using concealshot, IF /takecover adds that much to accuracy, then you're best off to use it becuase a mob will agro on the 2nd miss.
I have never noticed any accuracy bonuses and the description basically just says it adds to defenses, so I doubt it. Cover does not make you harder to detect, only harder to hit. But in my experience, it does not make you harder enough to hit to make it worth using most of the time. And as mentioned, it is of no use against melee attacks.
Supriseshot is supposed to only work from cover, but it is not that useful of a shot, and it apparently works whether under cover or not.
And to my knowledge, the Devs have never acknowledged a problem with Cover.
sotaudi - just a quick "how did you test it" question ?
i'm not sure of the supposed Accuracy bonus myself, other than being prone -
i'll have to get a high-ranged defense friend to help me perform some tests, standing, to kneeling, to prone, to /cover. I'll try tomorrow, if you know anything else or can give me more specifics, great!
