Im currently 2-0-0-0 rifleman ... pretty newbie still.

Now hear me out, this is my one rant (one rant to rule them all!!) about riflemen before I give rifleman up ....

• Rifleman are NOT snipers, neither in the SW universe nor in real life.


• Rifleman are the main units of any infantry force ... these are the guys that lead the way!


• RIfleman in real life do NOT use sniper rifles ... they use assualt rifles like M16's, AK74's and alike, the same is true in SW just look at the weapons the clone troopers use in the end of EP2 ... I looked it up and they use heavy blaster rifles!


• It is true that sniper rifles are also rifles ..... but the thing is they arent used by rifleman but they are used by advanced marksmen or commonly known as snipers.


• Snipers are basically of no use in this game simply because they rely on 2 weapons that arent (and probably never will be) in the game ...The 1st of these is purely range (firing from a range that is simply out of effective range for any other infantry weapon) and second is snipers rely HEAVILY on stealth.


• You want a good exemple of how assualt rifles should be just take a look at the assualt rifles in KOTOR.

Now dont get me started on carabineers because thats also a flawed proffession ..

Carabineers are not what they are in SWG ... Carabineers are mounted soldiers... ranged cavalry.
And carbines are nothing more than a light assualt rifle. In SWG theyre more like sub-machinegunners.

Anyway, thats my rant, thank you for reading.

Perhaps splitting riflemen into to two classes is out of the question.

my biggest gripe is what is up with the spray stick? That in no way shape or form should be classified as a rifle.................

The spraystick is absolutely arifle-type weaponin the starwars universe. The thing in SWG that is called a spraystick doesn't bear much resemblance to the description of the spray stick in other sources, though.. needs a model change and different damage type.

I never read any of the books so I don't know what a spray stick is supposed to look like, but the one in SWG is smaller than a pistol............

I think we are more of a mix of Sniper and Assault trooper.. We have some Sniper like abilities ( Headshot / Minshot / Sniper Shot ) and we have some great area attacks which give us that Assault trooper feel ( Flurry2 / Flushing 2 / and of course Strafe 2 ).

Possibly leaning more towards your description of a Rifleman Kearog

Trust me you do not want to give rifleman up. its the profession without dabblers because it sucks til master. thats why one of the rifleman motto's is "i'd kill you but im still only 4/4/4/4". i hit master about 2 weeks ago, and trust me all the effort is worth it. just be glad your doing your grinding after they fixed warping. there was nothing more annoying than a piket instantly appearing on your head.

I agree as well. I made the same rant a few times a long time ago.

I think there should be an elite-elite profession for sniper. It's prereq's would be mastering Sharpshooter and Marksmen and would be a steath based rifle profession with powerful shots that have an added delay while using them, but thats just a pipe-dream and aint gonna happen.

any rifleman can shoot long distances (the marine corps target range in parris island goes out to 500 yards). but that doesnt make you a sniper. i think were all getting a chubby from the title (Sniper) and not seeing a rifleman for what they really are. Riflemen are the core of any military infintry force. Just because they can shoot a rifle well (very well in fact) doesnt make them snipers.
