Since I became a rifleman I have tried several adjustments in stat migration. I am making some additional adjustments lately because of some new strategies I have been using and I am attempting to prepare for the mysterious new combat system.
Our first consideration above all must be focus. This number MUST be high. Since focus is the difference between a blue 170 rising over yourt head every shot (bringing your mind to zero in a few seconds) and absolutely no HAM costs!!!! As a human, my focus can be as high as 1100 but I decided to set it to 950. I am considering dropping it to the minimum but will do that gradually. The ultimate question is, how high does my focus need to be to maintain a zero mind ham cost? Can I wear armor and fire my ridiculously high ham stocked krayt T21 with no ham costs?
Lets do half the math. First off, I usually only wear armor that has an encumberance low enough to put on with no food, spiceor buffs. It is important to me that I can regenerate my stats quickly between sets of creatures when hunting and inwetween runs to the cloning facility when raiding. Otherwise, for me to stay in the fight, I have to take muon, bivoli nd fishak to put a bandaid on a broken arm rather than using foods that reduce or elimiate ham costs. With that inmind we can assume that our other secondary stats will be 1 (or close to it).
With focus at one we will have to use food to keep our ham costs down. I use breath of heaven and 2 glazed glucose pates. Breath of heaven gives me +489 to focus. Glazed glucose gives me +400 and if I use good stuff, I can take 2 at once.
So without spice, wearing armor, worst case scenario is:
1+489+400+400=1290
That is a very high number, but honestly, I don't know if it is enough to keep my mind costs down to zero. There's no sense in doing the rest of them math now as the entire system is about to change.
Right now, for me that number is 1840 (my focus is 950). Now that I can confirm equates to zero or incredibly close to zero HAM (blue 3's every shot on my my stocked T21). Many non-humans are limited to a max of 600 on focus, so their best case scenario is 1490ish.
Obviously the stats of foods on other servers may vary.
In considering other secondary stats and ham costs e must first assume we all have novice medic. I know a lot of pure pvpers believe that novice medic is a waste of points that should be instead put into xyz. Novice medic (15 points) allows us to set our secondaries to the minimum and heal any damage our specials costs enduce. Now that's unbuffed with armor on. Also keep in mind that you are taking breath of heaven which even with armor on will reduce your health and action costs almost completely.
Now many of you are thinking, "Why wear armor?" For me, it's invaluable. When I punch the clock, I duke it out with high level nightsisters. Sure I can kite a nightsister ranger or rancor tamer, but spellweavers and protectors will get inside before I strafe them to death. If I were still a master CH, that wouldn't so much be the case, but I dropped it for TKA. Also, in pvp (raids and base defense) people WILL get inside and even if they don't, they WILL shoot you...a lot.....and it hurts....a lot.
The truth is I don't always wear armor when I go to Dathomir. I do have bleeds, feign death and a bike so I can run away like a litle girl with a skinned knee. But against turrets, minefields and ATST's and opposing faction members that look at me as Osama Bin Laden, armor is my friend.
Unfortunately, armor costs a fortune and takes a massive beating very quickly. Not to mention that decay upon death is a nightmare. A good set of composite with super low encumnerance will cost a fortune. Not to mention that you will ABSOLUTELY need to see high encumbernce slices on all pieces, especially on the helmet. As random as slicing has been lately you might need to buy 4 sets just to get the slices you need.
One solution is to go with the high kinetic ubese. It's cheap, it's very low in encumberance and with the exception of the helmet, looks pretty cool. Also, it doesn't require too many rare resources to make. The problem is it is only good for pve as its kinetic is as high as 71% and the secondaries are pretty low. Sure you'll take less damage from a tka but unless your defense vs kd and dizzy are over 100 or you are a tka and or master brawler or master fencer, you will be flailing on the ground like an epileptic retard.
Back to composite. You don't need my godly 80 to kinetic/electr. 64 to everything else armor that sits in my droid quiverring in fear. I have been finding really good armor segments from nightsisters that lower encumberance by 20 each. I'm not sure how that impacts the final product in protection or if multiple segments in one piece. If it does and a helm uses let's say 6 of them, then we could drop the average 328 mind encumberance helmet to close to 200. Get a 45% encumberance slice on that bad boy and oooooo *goosebumps*. That does assume a helm takes 6 and they do stack. Don't hold your breath. /lostwood.
I hope all of this helps some of you. If it does, do me favor and take the stock of your rifle to the teeth of the next carbineer that says "Wee wee wee, poor me. My carbine will kill me faster than you will".
