It boosts the accuracy of your next attack so that you use the aim command then the next attack you want to use, so just hit aim if you want to increase teh attack of your default rifle attack or use aim+ a special move.
I do use it when hunting creatures or NPCs as it makes sure I don't miss, though as I move up rifleman it happens less and less.

/aim is good against defense mod stackers, as it allows you to hit them a lot more often, you freeze while using it tho, so its only good if they're not actively engaging you at the moment.

It takes a turn of combat (effectively making every shot you take twice as long) and immobilizes you so you stop every time you aim.

this is as good a place as any to ask this question.....
does aim simply improve your attack roll (ie hit or miss) OR does it have any effect on defenses like block/counterattack/dodge?

it definitely does not make each shot twice as long. i believe aim takes the same amount of time no matter what speed you have

and if it does depend on speed, it doesn't take as long as other specials do

Heres what I've seen, and how I understand it.
AIM only works for the IMMEADIATE followingattack if you are moving.
If you are static, it works for allattacks until you either a) stop attacking, or b) move / change posture.
AIM doubles the length of time between shots.
AIM roughly doubles your accuracy as long as it is in effect.
AIM is useful against the major Template stacks. The key is not to use AIM to fire Strafe2's at them, but to do the following:
Create a macro for AIM + a Stun attack, in Rifles case, Flushingshot or Flushingshot2. It should look like this-
/aim;
/flushingshot(2);
If you come up against a Rifleman/TKM/Fencer or any combination of the 3, use this macro on them. Once the STUN is inflicted on them, their defenses drop by roughly 2/3rds from what I can tell. Then go to town Headshotting or Strafing. Using this macro saves time hitting the additional key to aim, and allows you to always remember to, and not forget and fire off several Flushings only to miss.
And it does work wonders. Faced a TKM/Brawler/Fencer. First time around, did it without Stun. Hit him roughly 7/25 or so shots. After the first 4 I was autoattacking cause he landed a hit on my mind. He ended up killing me.
Came back. Used the AIM macro I had made. STUN stuck on the first shot. I hit him then for 7 consecutive headshots to drop him before he got within Lunge Distance. It works if you use it right.
