Thread: What are your feelings that they took out the 2,5 melee modifier?

My feeling is,bad move.I feel a nerf coming on. Rifleman is by far the best basic marksman profession (Without BH/smuggler mods to carbines and pistoleers). Granted, most of our power comes at master level, but what a tremendous amount of power it is.

With the 2,5 melee mod, we could at least justify our high damage and high speed (at master level), but without it, I think we're going to hear alot of nerf cries. In fact, they've already started.

Now, before you think me a traitor, I love having the melee mod removed, as its nice not to get one hit by any mob that closes with you. I just dont know if I'll like the profession anymore if the devs nerf it by adding a speed cap or the like. What do you fellow riflemen think?

Yes, it forced you to fight smarter and utilize your strengths to the full. Or supplementing rifleman with CH skills or melee,or the like.

Glad to see it gone. Nerf or no nerf, it was innane. And anyone without Conceal Shot yet had to deal with it. Remember the children!

It was badly needed. I can tank 3 rancors at once with no doctor buffs, need I say more.

omg that 2.5 melee mod was the worst crap to deal with trying to make master, now there are FOOLS asking for it back. Fine give it to them but leave it off me, I like not being dead in one hit now that my pets are useless as tanks.

Call me a fool? I'm trying to think long term here. I believe without the 2,5 melee mod, we're gonna get a hard hit from the nerf bat. It was what allowed us to justify the ammount of damage we can do.

I'm just trying to see the game from a larger perspective. We can'r have it all.

I agree that we should have the 2.5x melee penalty. Don't get me wrong, I made master back when we had it and creatures warped on you constantly and every time you went prone you would slide just a little too close to be in your effective range or slide just outside of range(this was before all the new accuracy mods). Also the bug with taking cover was in effect, you take cover get up and you could only walk for about 15-20 mins., no running or burst running. So I couldn't take cover(conceal shot wasn't working anyway), got to the point where I wouldn't go prone so my accuracy was even worse and I died alot from warping creatures. It actually made me start to give up rifles, but I changed my mind and stuck it out.

The melee modifier is a balance issue. Yes it sucked while you were leveling up, but once I was a master it didn't bother me so much. With it gone there has to be something else to balance us. I would definitely rather have the 2.5x modifier over a speed cap of anything over 1 sec.

As for riflemen leveling up now and think it is a good thing that it is gone, you guys have no idea how hard it was 4 months ago. I am sure masters who mastered it back when I did will agree with me, it was pure hell. We really should have kept the modifier, I fear what comes next.

The 2.5 is fine for higher levels of Riflemen, especially now that Conceal Shot works. But the great division between Master and Minor Rifleman is still there. The road up to Master is long and tedious enough, the 2.5 hurt aspiring Riflemen ina critical way, IMO.

Either way, it's a done issue I think. We didn't lose the 2.5 because the Devs realized the complaints of some of us, they did it because a damage multiplier is a poor balance system and have since then moved to Damage Mitigation.

If it's any comfort, it still takes us a good while longer to get our Damage Mitigation than other professions, and our defense against Melee is still not as good. (yes, yes, yes, pick up a melee profession)

We had the 2.5 modifier, its sucked and they took it away. Why would they put it back? That would make no sense. Make other changes (what ever the may be) but dont take something away from a couple of months to only revert back.....if the devs didnt want to remove the 2.5 modifier they would tested on TC, found it to be unbalanced and left it alone. I just dont think it makes sense or fair for that matter to remove something only to have it reverted a little while later......why do it in the first place if this is the case?

Maybe we should shut up about taking 3 rancors at once

I think the 2.5 modifier wouldn't have been such a big deal if it wasn't for the warping... I think if the warping was non existant we could've dealt with it just fine.
