Thread: Armor for a rifleman?
I think that I want a composite helmet sliced for encumberence, but do I want anything else? Chiten? Padded? Invisible?
I'v been a rifleman (or aiming for) since launch, but I'm just now starting to feal the pain of our HAM costs (I take my time). Most PvPers I see wear heavy armor, but I know the encumberence is harsh. How should I ballance this?
In my experience armor just means a lot more downtime than normal. I typically don't use buffs. I have a lot of solutions:
1) Max focus over mind. what's an extra 100-200 mind versus reducing specials costs by 60. No brainer.
2) Muon, breath of heaven, fried ice cream, ryschate while in battle. (I usually dont use muon)
3) Meditation 2 (power boost in tka). Kills halfyour mind and gives it all back and then some. Sick.
4) Muon fishak and bivoli for the quick boost of mind in to avoid downtime.
I wear a full suit of composite. The resists are off the charts and so are the encumberances. I usually buy 4 suits at once to use the best protection armor in the game. The difference encumerance slices make is nothing for a rifleman. Even neglecting a helmet is out of the question if you want to spam specials with impunity.
I only use armor when soloing the most high end creatures and npc's in the game. It's out of the question on big guild hunts that last 4 hours. I also use it with doc and entertainer buffs, muon and power booston base raids. 40 imps in one big group watch me tank them while I spam flushing 2 to the end of my brain. Unless the focus is completely on me, I incap more than half the group while the rest of my guild mops the bloody remains. Now that's taking one for the team. They also better use sniper shot quickly, cause I will be using force of will when I go down.
I would consider a couple things I haven't tried. On my server there are smiths that make a really low encumberance Mabari armor with 71% to kinetic. I used it to master tka. Breaks fast but is real cheap. Get super encumberance slices on a set of that and you would have some excellent armor in taking hits from creatures.
You could also have a really good armorsmith make you a low encumberance set. Give them the best nightsister and krayt segments you can find that lower encumberance. Make 3 suits of this. Keep the lowest encumberance pieces and you would be in much better shape. You will definitely be able to wear a good set like this without buffs, food or even muon. All of my secondaries (except focus) are to the minimum and I have definitely done this.
Also if you are one of those master doc/master rifle guys, I assume all of your stats are in mind focus and willpower while you are in a constant state of buff. You would still need muon and lost of focus food to spam with impunity, but that would definitely do the trick. My mind encumberance on my composite is about 650. Regeneration wouln't be too bad if you were fully jacked. Throw entertainer (especially musician) buffs in there and you would be an armored rifleman with virtually no sacrifices.

Dude dont you have a macro to get out of your armor to relieve this? Or am I just mis-understanding this statement?
Engage the enemy...........hit your equip armor macro......if your lucy enuff to survive hit un-equip during down time?
I have a Krayt Composite enhanced helmet, andcomposite chest plate and boots. They were made with encumbrances in mind and sliced for encumbrances. I have a macro to equip all of the armor, and one to equip/de-equip the helmet. I have another macro to equip my normal clothes.
With the partial set of armor, I generally do not have to worry about whether or not I am buffed , so I can wear it no matter what. To reduce mind costs, I can dequip the helmet if I am wearing it, or if I am taking a lot of mind damage I can equip it. And when all is safe, I can quickly put my clothes on to reduce down time.
It is not the most protected I can be, but I find the balance of protection vs. offense to be livable.
I usually don't PvP, so I can afford to specialize my armor. It's all aimed at hunting.
Ubese, 70% kinetic resist, various other resists, and slice it for encumbrance.
My HAM costs are all around 180.
Go out hunting, and I don't need a boost unless the target is something tough. When hunting rancors, I generally have to pop a muon about once every 3 lairs. Or, run a lot.
i got a set of 77e%elec 80%kin 76 or 75% acid and the rest 70% i sue it for pvp cause it costed me alot and i dont want decay. but its total encumb is 400ish. and i got a set of 805kin and 50% to others for pve and the total encumb is 259 and 310 on mind
instead of buying 3 sets of armor just bring a slicer with u so u can just get individual pieces and if its custom order then have the AS make the pieces u need then trade them to the slicer that way u dont spend so much
I think i have the same suit as Eaca..
47-52% and the total encumberance is about 300 mind.
with 1100 focus and 800 mind, i just get doc buffs and pop a fishak and a ryshcate OR Glucose Pate (this stuff RULES, if you can find it.). BOH also works but it's a drink and you probably won't be able to pop a fishak at the same time.
my favorite combo when doc buffed is still fishak and Glucose pate, by this stuff by the crate when you see it make a macro that pops whatever food you want and sets an alarm for when it's about to wear off. (have the macro switch to an unused hotbar and click 4 boxes, put the foods/drinks you want in those 4 boxes. )
i also keep muon on a macro for emergencies (if i'm getting hammered and need a mind 'heal'.![]()
not that i even wear armor anymore ... but when decay is lifted (today?), that composite is comin out of the bank!
i thought id throw this one out there for all the poor soldiers (like me) living off what we earn on missions.
i just have a comp chest plate, gloves and boots (and a helmet that i wear only to grind out unarmed exp) all resists are in the mid 50's (sucky by todays standars of armor but hey i bought it when 55% was king)
i find that i am pretty well protected vs most attacks and my enc is around 70 for mind (with helm its over 300)
so if your a soldier on a budget i recomend this configuration
