Thread: Tips For Rifleman

I think it was amistake in trying to make each firearm a seperate and equally viable path. From the perspective of a military man...each weapon has its time and place and its folly not to use the right tool for the job. A pistol makes a good sidearm, but the rifle is theworkhorse of the battlefield.

There is no way that anyone should be trying to balance pistol vs rifle as separate but equal paths. It's an apples and oranges situation.

There is a time and a place to use each. Up close or if I need to carry concealed ... give me a pistol. From a distance or on a battlefield, give me a rifle. EVERYTIME.

Nowthe milk is spilled, what can they do? Well they can stop babying the pistol. Make it effective close up... the way it should be, but stop allowing it to be so versatile that the rifle is unnecessary. Seriously curtail firearm effectiveness while moving, that would be a good start. Accuracy needs to have more of an effect on damage. I rarely see anyone change stances to fire. No one should feel safe running straight at a rifleman that is in a prone shooting position, prepared to fire. That should be suicide. Right now, it's the smartest thing in the world. Take your pistol and head straight at the rifleman at max speed.

I'd like to invite the person that thought up this weird scheme out to a field on my family farm for a little test. Theycan bring the pistol of their choice. I'll assume a shooting position 70m away and invite them to charge straight at me and my rifle. I guarantee I will be home for dinner that evening. The Dev might want to cancel any future plans.

Does the unarmed combat path have a disarm talent? Why does the pistol have disarm shot? If I am unarmed and manage to run straight up to you (assuming you have a firearm and I make it to you alive), the first thing I am going to do is wrestle that firearm away from you.

If a pistol can disarm, why can't a rifle? I mean... what makes more sense a rifleman with a high powered scope shooting a weapon out of someone's hand or some hotdog with a handgun shooting a weapon out of someone's hand. I know the answer, if you don't, I suggest you ask your local SWAT team.

Here's my tip.

1. Go to Mos Taike.

2. Find Banthas near the city.

3. Prone.

4. MS 1 and/or 2.

5. Kite using Headshot 2/3.

6. Rinse and repeat.

The only problem is that Taike is kind of out there, so no entertainers/medics hang around.

Another suggestion. Get maskscent from the scout tree. If it's on and I'm kneeling or prone I seem to get an extra shot before the creature aggros. Doesn't work on NPC's though.

For Xp I was on Corellia knocking off Giant Dalyrakes. Kneel, aim, mindshot1, peace, wait ten seconds or so, headshot2, headshot2. At that point I would get up and start to kite. I'd usually drop it before it got to me. If it didn't warp. The peace/pause I put in so that my second headshot that would make it go aggro would correspond to the the first bleed hitting. Makes it a better damage to range ratio. The Giant Dalyrakes were giving off 1200 XP each. Also good for scout XP when you skin them. Averages about 30+ leathery hide and about 120 scout XP each.

TIP:

I, too have noticed the problem with PCs charging riflemen, but I have a near-perfect solution to that.

Step 1) Buy a <2 sec Spraystick.

Step 2) Aquire Flurryshot.

Step 3) Get Suppression fire, if you don't already have it.

Step 4) Use your spraystick, and when they charge you, make them dizzy and then make them kneel. They will be mindlessly charging you, so they will auto-stand. This will have the effect of knocking them on their backs.

Step 4) Bust out the T-21 or Laser Rifle and finish the job.

I was testing the above strategy on my friend. Lowered his stance, raised his stance. He didn't get knocked down. I tried it a few times. Maybe players havve some sort of resist that lowers the chance of getting knocked down in this way. It works fine for me vs. NPCs.

Anyway, the strategy isn't great because it takes 2 to 3 shots for a "chance" at knockdown by which time most other classes can kill or knock you down. Maybe I will macro it, the time it takes to press hotkeys is slow compared to how fast a master rifle can fire.

Suppresion fire will not knock them down after dizzy shot, the player has to change postures himself. So when you suppression fire back out of range, they either have to stay there at a kneel till dizzy wears off, or they will get up a chase you forgetting there dizzy and fall down.

SO using posture down, then posture up will not knockdthem down.

Dizzy+Posture Down, then wait for them to stand up. NPCs will all the time, but some PCs are smart enough to not.

A lot of the time, Nerfsinger, they will keep their little nine-year-old fingers on the foreward arrow, automatically causing them tostand upfrom kneel.

(NOTE: this is why you only want totake them to kneel and not to prone. If they go prone they will notauto-stand, and therefore not get knocked down)

Easiest Rifle XP if you have a non CH pet and some healing skills(not required, but more downtime)

Find some BAF creatures (dewbacks work fine, or squills, or razorbacks, etc)

Use your pet to attack and get all the aggro.

Use flushingshot2 or another area effect shot.

Heal pet if necessary.

Collect XP.

I was doing this to salt mynocks on Lok and some stuff on Dantooine as well as the easier things on tatooine. I get 2-4k XP each kill. If they are not AR1+, then use a DLT20a, mine is 5.2 spd 160-300 damage after powerup and slice, 14/29/26 HAM costs. I can spam specials easily. It's -52 mind each use only.

You could also use a laser rifle and use some Muon Gold.

With a AoE attack, you could also get 1 hit kills on a bunch of stuff that give 100-500xp each.

Dizzy wasnt nerfed, suppression fire, I guess you could say it was fixed. Dizzy still lasts a good 20-30 seconds now. Depending on your defense vs dizzy. It probably takes a few tries to get suppression fire to stick now, depending on defense vs dizzy and miss rate.

hmm I picked up rifleman because I like the idea of sniping. I currently hunt snorbals(male or female). With explore 4 you actually outrun the snorbal so its not true kiting . anyways I just go prone, ms2, ms1 and then hs3. When they charge, i pull out my sg82 with an idea range of 35 and just run in circles till the snorbal dies. With males it takes longer because you can have up multiple snorbals following you and you have to hit them each with MS1 and MS2 while running. I am able to get about 200k xp a day from doing this, maybe a little more.

One thing I picked up from a male spawn, if you want an infinte supply of snorbals, find a camp, hit your first 3 shots, then run about 100m away from the spawn and kite around there. If you go a certain distance away from spawns for a period of time they respawn. I did this killing 1 elder female snorbal for about 2 hours, then some imp with an AT-ST came by and cleared my mission and told me not to leech when it was my mission he was destroying.

As for soloing red con creatures, I ran across some giant kimogilas(the big big big lizards) and was able to solo them no problem. MS2, MS1, HS3 then just keep them away with warning shot. I killed 2 in a row and then they stopped spawning. Wasn't much in the way of rifle xp, only about 4k, but harvesting i received 363 hides and 2k scout xp.

Whats this whole thing with group XP? whenever I am in a group I get jack for xp.
