Thread: Why was the 2.5x dmg modifier from melee removed?
OK, let's put this in perspective for Teh Newbs:
When I was doing most of my leveling, I had the 2.5x. Creatures would warp on your head and one-shot you. And we had the least accuracy of the ranged elite professions (Carbineer/Pistols). Conceal shot didn't work.
Then ahot-fixcame, warping was gone.All rejoiced!
Then a patch came.We got LOTS of accuracy, the most in fact. That's great!
We got a lot of defense. That's good, but I don't understand the melee D still.
The2.5x was removed in favor of a to-hit mod. PROBLEM. SOE screws up the to-hit mod, making us harder to-hit instead of easier. Therefore, no penalty at all for being in close. As Selfyn has said MANY times, "a melee rifler is a dead rifler", and that's the way it should be. We have no drawback for being in close.
That is why we want the 2.5x back. We got 4 positive gifts, with no drawbacks, and another gift due to a bug. Fix the bug, and we may not need the 2.5x back. With no warping, a working conceal shot, and our accuracy fix, the 2.5x will not be that bad at all. I want it back, as do almost all of the old-school rilfers. It's the only thing keeping us from Nerf hell.

I'm a TKA, and I never bothered using that rifleman/tka people use a lot in their pvp template. I don't understand why they couldn't have just taken it out in pve but left it in pvp. I'm sure it's possible. That was their only weakness. Now they actually outclass a pistoleer at close range.

The reason the modifier was removed was because
a> they couldn't/wouldn't fix warping mobs. You realize how bad it sucked to have been hunting and shoot something 60m away (well out of it's melee attack range) only to have it warp to 0m before your next shot? Then hit fot 2.5x..............no less than 600 pts per hit if you were hunting medium to strong mobs, add BAFing mobs and you get hit 2.5x time # of aggro mobs.
b> they nerfed our delay shots. So even if we were lucky to avoid the warp, we could no longer keep 1 or more creatures at bay with our posture/dizzy shots. Adding the 30 second timer on these shots was brought about by people crying in pvp...........but they didn't seem to care that it was a major blow to riflemen in pve.
c> we had some really big cry babies that attempted to level rifleman and cried about it being too hard. The old pros were dead set against removing the handicap in favor of a speed cap or something else......but the newb cry babies won and the handicap was removed.
